FOLD FLAT TERRAIN SCENARIO PACK 1:144 Scale

Pack A

This pack provides images to build a basic Semi-detached House, larger house

with optional extension, Church and industrial building in 1:144 scale.

WARNING – The construction of Fold Flat Terrain requires the use of sharp

scissors/knives and solvent-based glues, so are unsuitable for children under 14

and adult supervision is required.

You will need

♦ A4 Coloured card – 250 to 300 grm/m

2 in Grey for the house and boundary walls, dark red or

brown for house roofs, green for the folds.

♦ 12” (300mm) steel rule

♦ Sharp Knife (disposable ones are ideal, but change the blade after a couple of sheets)

♦ Sharp Scissors (optional)

♦ Biro pen preferably empty, but Black is OK.

♦ A surface protected from knifes, glue and Biro scratches. A whole newspaper is ideal.

♦ Solvent-based glue “Bostic Clear” is ideal. Water based e.g. PVA are unsuitable as they “wet” the

card and distort it.

Printing

The files are based on 600 dpi resolution and if printed at this resolution should come out at the correct

size.

Painting

Some structures look better painted particularly hills/folds etc. This is best done with spray paints.

This should be done in a well-ventilated area using very thin coats, preferably just misting the surface to

avoid wetting and distorting the structure.

Storage – Keep the models in a box file, folded flat and they will last a long time. Some of the authors

have lasted 8 years and are still going.

General Notes on Construction

Outlines - are thicker lines but not by much, too thick makes accuracy difficult. Cut as close to the

centre of the line as possible.

Fold markings meanings are shown below.

Score down the fold with a Biro using the steel rule down the middle of the line. Having folded the

crease, run the end of the ruler over it to get a really sharp crease. Note at 1:144 it is best to score with

a knife those folds that are marked for scoring with a knife ONLY. Folds that need to move to fold up

must be scored with a biro!.

SEMI DETACHED HOUSES

This pack makes up Semi Detached Houses.

Construction of Houses

1. Cut out the wall. The windows can be left “as is” or cut out (not recommended at this scale).

2. Score all the creases and fold them. Use a knife for those marked as they will be glued and a biro

for the rest.

3. Cut out the roof tab slots.

4. Glue the apex wall flaps down to re-inforce the apex walls.

5. Glue the ends of the wall section together to form the base of the house using FLAP “A”.

6. Cut out Roof section and glue flaps down on the underside. Note score with a knife on the long fold

(see fig. S2) but use a biro on the tabs. DO NOT glue tab down see Fig. S2.

7. Glue the roof to the walls using “TAB A” of the wall section.

NOTE - Roof Sections for the Church Nave, Governor’s House and Mansion East Wing are all on

the same sheet.

BUILD INSTRUCTIONS

GOVENORS HOUSE AND CHURCH NAVE

These are made almost exactly the same as the Semi – Detached- House. Only the variations are listed

below.

Construction of Mansion east wing.

This is the same as the Governors’ house except the inner wall is glued as shown in the following figure.

CHURCH NAVE

This is built the same way as the Governors house except:-

• There is no floor for the nave.

• The roof ends in line with the tower end of the walls. It’s a good idea to glue the roof on after

the nave is glued to the tower so it fits properly.

CHURCH TOWER

This forms a square tower. The build is much like the rest except:-

• Fold over the tower top, Cut out the battlements (crenulations), so both sides match but do not

glue. and unfold.

• Glue the tower walls together.

• Fold over the tower top and glue. This hides the flaps

• Glue the roof support and the Roof flap D as shown in the diagram below.

WORKSHOP/HANGER

1. Cut out the Front rear walls but not the widows.

2. Glue the flaps at the top and bottom of the walls to strengthen them. Score the creases with a

knife to make folding easier.

3. Glue walls together as for the Semi-Detached.

4. Cut out the roof section and fold as shown in figure 3

5. Glue roof to wall note. The edge of the roof should be in line with the long edge of the wall but

with a small overhang at the ends. The black triangles on the roof show the position of the

wall. It is possible to use a very soft pencil to mark the position on the roof so it can be erased

afterwards.
