aster is not only about whathappened to Jesus after

his death. It is not only about Jesus’ victory either. Rather, itis about what he did for us andhow he brings us through whathe has done into a new way ofliving in which we no longerlive by and for ourselves butby and for him (cf. 2 Cor 5:15).In his resurrection, Jesus givesus the grace of Easter whichtransforms us to become better

disciples of the risen Lord. The First Reading, from

the Acts of the Apostles, recounts the confrontationbetween the apostles and theSanhedrin. These disciplesof Jesus, who in the Gospelstories were not as condent, have been transformed by theEaster experience to becomecourageous witnesses of the

risen Lord (cf. Acts 5:32).From fearful men with littlefaith, they have become greatwitnesses to Christ. They havereceived the Holy Spirit andhave obtained the strengthand fortitude to undergo suchpersecution and dishonorwith joy and boldness (Acts5:41). Easter gives us the giftof courage to become true

apostles. As such we facelife with a new attitude andembrace our mission withouthesitation. We proclaim Jesusrisen from the dead by livingout the Easter joy every day.

Another grace we receivethrough the Lord’s resurrectionis a sharing in his glory. TheSecond Reading (Rev 5:11-14)through signs and symbolsdescribes the glory, power, andhonor accorded to the risenLord, the slain Lamb gloriedbecause of his faithfulness to

the will of the Father. Jesus’suffering and death did not atrst appear to be a path to gloryor even an achievement at all,but only in the resurrectionwere all of these transformedand given new meaning.Suffering became a path tovictory through fidelity; anddeath became glorious throughthe resurrection. Easter grace

in the same way transformsour life’s horizon and givesdeeper meaning to our humanexperience of suffering anddeath by giving us hope in theglory now and to come.

The third Sunday of Easterbrings us also to meditate

on another episode of Jesus’appearance to his disciples. This t ime he appears inGalilee, the home of hisdisciples where they firstencountered him. We arefamiliar of the episode of thegreat catch in the calling of therst disciples (Lk 5:4-11). Herethe Gospel of John (21:1-19)narrates this similar story in

the context of the disciples’reunion with Jesus after hisdeath and resurrection. Thescene of the first encounterin the Gospel of Luke is ascene of ‘renewed’ encounterin the Gospel of John. Inthis renewed encounter, thedisciples—and in a specialway, Peter—reconcile with

Jesus and are asked to renew

their commitment to the Lord. This scene then becomes anopportunity for Jesus to callthem to a new mission. Wetoo are invited to this renewedencounter with Jesus. Wemeet the merciful Lord duringthis Easter season and heinvites us also to become hisdisciples and witnesses to hisGospel and of his resurrection.

The Easter experience isthe transforming grace thatempowers us to become trueand committed followers ofthe Lord.

men. The God of our ancestorsraised Jesus, though you hadhim killed by hanging him ona tree. God exalted him at hisright hand as leader and saviorto grant Israel repentance andforgiveness of sins. We are witnesses of these things, as isthe Holy Spirit whom God hasgiven to those who obey him.”

     The Sanhedrin ordered the

apostles to stop speaking in thename of Jesus, and dismissedthem. So they left the presenceof the Sanhedrin, rejoicing thatthey had been found worthy tosuffer dishonor for the sake ofthe name.

Shortly before her death she wrote herautobiography, The Story of a Soul , to teach others her “Lile Way”of approaching God—wholehearted delity to the performance ofone’s daily dues out of love.

In her autobiography, Therese wrote: “How I loved the feasts!…I especially loved the processions in honor of the BlessedSacrament. What a joy it was for me to throw owers beneath thefeet of God!… I was never so happy as when I saw my roses touchthe sacred Monstrance.”

“By our lile acts of charity pracced in the shade we convert

souls far away, we help missionaries, we win for them abundantalms, and by that means build actual dwellings spiritual andmaterial for our Eucharisc Lord.”

“Heaven for me is hidden in a lile Host where Jesus, my Spouse,is veiled for love. I go to that Divine Furnace to draw out life, andthere my Sweet Savior listens to me night and day.” “Holiness isa disposion of the heart that makes us humble and lile in thearms of God.”
