Clinton rushed in and received .another hot. one<s>n the .jaw, but in the clinch that followed Doniielly's ribs were badly .punched. Clinton ended the round by throw­ ing his opponent. Little or no time- was was­ ted between rounds and the .seconds hail hard­ ly wiped their men uff before the referee called time. . From this time no science was displayed. It was simply slugging and a question of endur­ ance. In the last few rounds Clinton was knocked down each time. Botji men were very weak at the close of the thirtieth, round. Donnelly was helped to the centre «f the ring by his second, Clinton tried to come, but was too much exhausted ;nul gave up the battle.

A large number of sporting men from various parts ot the West arrived at South Bend, Ind., on Thursday, to witness tho hard glove light between John Files, the Chicago light weight, and Edward Seward, for $250 a side, Marquis of Quoensberry rules, announced In THE SPORTING LIKE. Prof. William writes from Melbourne, Australia: "I am going to have a glove flght with Lawrence Foley of Sydney on May 30, for £50!) a side and the heavy weight championship, according to tho rules of the London prize-ring.'' Foley is the pugilist whom Jem Mace matched againpi Abe Hicken,and who beat Hicken. He weighs 150 pnunds and is 5 feet 8% inches tall. Miller cannot reduce himself below 215 pounds, and is 6 feet y, inch tall. Never­ theless, the Melfoournesporting men will back their man.

A flght for $50 a side was fonght Sunday after­ noon near Moro Phillips' Chemical Works, Cam den, N. J., by Joseph McLiuighlin and "Patsy* Mealey. McLaughliti Is known in Port Richmond as "the tongh." The men left Port Richmond in row boats, and after cruising around to avoid BUS picion landed near the Camden water works. Hall an hour later they began the flght. McLaughlin had the advantage. Mealey was knocked down four times, and in the sixth round was knocked in sensible. Both men were badly wounded.

Prizes were alw given to batteries, zouaves and military bands Mobile was aglow with enthusiasm over th success of its representatives, which sky rockets and oratory commemorated till late a night. Now Nashville wants to hold anothei drill next year, with prizes still more lavish while Mobile protests that it is her turn next It is noteworthy how strong a hold on popula favor this form of competition has at tin South and West, whereas at the North am East- militia drillsfor money prizes are rarel indulged in, and are never made the oecasio: of a great muncipal festival.
