    Most of you will have received R&Dapproval for Substantial Amendment

    3. With date of 4th November 2014,all sites who have not received anyobjection from their R&D departmentcan now implement the amendmentand use the new PIS.

    We know youre keen to getyour hands on the promisedprofessionally printedinformation sheets. Our printersare working hard on customisingyour local site PIS and promisethey will be sent out to the rst sites thisweek! If you need any assistance with localising yourdocuments to print yourself in the meantime, please get intouch ( [email protected] ), well be happy to help.

    Remember our recommendation to use swab washing intheatre it will dramatically increase the volume of bloodavailable in cell salvage. Heres the steps presented by theShef eld team at our October meeting:

    1. Set up a sterile bowl with 1000ml sterile IV grade 0.9%saline.2. Soak blood soiled swabs for a few minutes in the saline toextract red cells.3. Gently compress the swabs to express any residualsolution before discarding (dont wring!).4. At the end of the procedure, aspirate the swab washsolution into the cell salvage reservoir using the suction line.5. The swab wash should not be left for more than 6 hourswithout processing.

    As of 31st October, our total recruitment to SALVO was 1646, and the monthly recruitment was 52. Thats 9 up from last month,well done everyone for your hard work lets keep those numbers rising!
