EMPiRE August ‘15 Issue #15 The SALVO Newsletter Study to assess cell-salvage in obstetrics Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, our latest addition to the SALVO team, introduce themselves: At the Norfolk and Norwich hospital we have a well- established obstetric research team and are active in over a dozen trials. Our obstetric anaesthetic department is relatively new to research and as such is having to learn quickly! We have been involved in research for about 8 months and now have a team of 4 consultants who are committed & dedicated to research. We also have another 9 consultants on our delegation logs & we hope for more in September. Being part of SALVO has been great for our department. It has helped promote research locally and the use of cell salvage for our patients. Our involvement even helped us convince our Trust to acquire a new cell saver machine! The increased frequency with which we are using the machine has helped our theatre staff gain familiarity with the equipment and improved our skills in using it. We look forward to recruiting as many patients as possible for this trial and helping with an important area for Obstetrics.Page 1 Contact Details Doris Lanz, Senior Trial Coordinator Malika Barakat, Admin & Data Assistant Email: [email protected] | Twitter: @kt_network #SALVOStudy 58 Turner Street, London, E1 2AB What do we mean when we ask “were one or two suckers used” for cell salvage? “Two suckers” applies when some of the fluid at delivery is extracted into a separate container to be disposed of after the procedure. If all the blood, amniotic fluid/liquor and wash goes through the cell salvage machine, tick ’one’. If a separate suction is used at all during the procedure (usually for amniotic fluid/liquor) tick ‘two’. Data Management Corner The SALVO CRF summer quiz: and the winner is… Meet the Norwich Team!
