Water that is full of salt.

Example: People cannot drink salt water.

Water that does not contain salt.

Example: People can drink fresh water.

Example: The ocean has salt water.

A large body of fresh water.

Example: The lake water can be used for drinking.

A thick cover of ice.

Example: The polar ice cap contains fresh water.
