SHOT 1 The establishing point of view, high angle shot shows two men presented in extremely dark lighting. This creates a sense of mystery within the audience as we are unaware of who the men may be? There where about’s and what exactly they are looking at (who’s eyes are we seeing this through?). The fact the director has used dark lighting also hides the men's identity more in a sense as the audience are just about able to see the outline of their faces. The diegetic sound of a metal door being opened also emphasises to the audience that who ever eyes we are viewing this out of , is entrapped and locked up, creating an effective opening sequence through the mystery and enigma created

SHOT2 The next shot shows the victim, who is presented in a extremely vulnerable position through the use of a low angle close up. This highlights the emotion of her face as she looks distressed and scared but also emphasises her wounds showing that she is in a very powerless and dangerous situation. The composition and framing is tight, this highlights her positioning as she holds her head. This suggests once again how weak she is. Overall this shot creates mystery as we are still unaware of who this women is ? Why she has been imprisoned? And most importantly what is going to happen next? This intrigues the audience, making them want to watch on and find out all the questions that are rushing through their heads.

SHOT 3There is diegetic sound of them men shouting within this part of thriller, once again showing the power they have as they order her around, This clip shows the men physically dragging her out of the cell, this once again highlights her weakness and vulnerability also expressed through the diegetic sound of her hitting the ground. The mid shot highlights the hierarchy within the clip as the victim is placed on the floor and you can only see the men’s legs creating a sense of mystery as they audience still do not know who these men are and why they are do this ? The women is shown to wear no clothes which connotes once again the dangerous and vulnerable states she is in, by been beaten and degraded by men that surround her

SHOT 4 This extreme high angle is used to express the power this solider has over the victim as he stands over her whilst she lies in pain, it also highlights the audience that he may be the cause on the injuries that have been inflicted on to her. This makes us feel sympathy fir the victim as we re seeing this shot through her eyes, almost making the audience feel like they are actually her There is non diegetic sound of classical music that is extremely eary and slow maybe to express how the girl is feeling inside (a sense of giving up )

Page 6: Salt Opening Sequence

SHOT 5 There is a extreme close up of the women's feet, highlighting the rope wrapped round them. This connotes a sense of entrapment and imprisonment causing the audience to feel worried for her as there is no way of escaping this vulnerable situation she is under. There is diegetic sound of the women speaking saying “please let me go I am not who you think I am “ indicates to the viewer that it is of the innocent on the run genre, as well as this it highlights her pain as we hear the desperation in her voice and she respectively begs to be let free, with no reply from the men. This creates enigma as it makes the audience question who do these men think she is? As they still have no clue on the true identity of any of the characters that have been presented to them yet

SHOT 6 The us of this long shot highlights the isolation the women might be feeling as she is surrounded by all these men, with no one what so ever to help her. Her actions and she tries to move her arms and legs whilst they are tied up connotes to the audience that she is scared and desperate to be set free. The fact on of the solider is standing over her once again shows that he has a lot of power and intension to inflict pain on the victim this causes tension as the audience feel worried for the girl. The dim lighting may be reflective of his dark conscious as he doesn’t care about the young lady that lays before him and how much pain she could be in after the actions he has made upon her.

SHOT 7 AND 8 This low angle close up is used by the director to highlight the pain the women is in and desperation to be free. The repition of the word please is also used to highlight how scared she is. Through this scene the women is presented as weak and vulnerable

This contrasting shot used of a high angle of the solider stand over the girl makes him seem powerful but also emphasises his anger as he shouts you’re a spy this suggest that this thriller could be of a mistaken identity genre and give the audience a sense of what the plot may involve with out giving away the whole story line therefore extremely effective
