Fr. John addresses the Annual Dinner multitude.

Dear Friends,

In this issue of SALT, you will see photos from our Annual Dinner. The event was a huge success with over 1,100 people attending! It was edifying to gather with so many people who support the mission of Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. The theme for the evening was “Cause of Our Joy,” a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Litany of Loreto because Jesus Christ, our salvation, entered the world through her.

Throughout the evening, we felt the joyful presence of the Lord, who continues to call men to the priesthood. The interactions between seminarians and guests were moments of grace as people came to know the men who hope to one day serve them as priests. Thank you to everyone who made it a special night.

We know that many of our supporters are not able to attend the dinner, yet we appreciate each of you who supports us in whatever way you can. As rector, I am often overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of our benefactors. Please be assured of my prayers and the prayers of the whole seminary community for you.

Mary, cause of our joy, pray for us.

Father John Hemsing, Rector

A Note of Thanks

September 22, 2017 was a night to remember as 1,100 supporters of Saint Francis de Sales Seminary gathered at the Wisconsin Center to celebrate the “Cause of Our Joy.” In keeping with the Marian theme, the Seminary’s statue of Mary was placed on stage, and the program began with the Seminary’s schola singing the Magnificat. Other highlights included the premiere of our inspiring new short film, Come to Me, and a moving speech by seminarian Patrick Magnor.

There are many more pictures online. You can also watch Come to Me, the schola’s Magnificat and Patrick’s speech on our website at www.sfs.edu.

Over 100 golfers and 200 dinner guests came together in July to raise money for the Seminary. The 14th annual Pallium Scholarship Benefit was held at the elegant Wisconsin Country Club for the first time. Mike and Fifi Stevens co-chaired the popular event with Fr. Philip Schumaker once again, while Fr. Dennis Saran put his own hilarious pirate twist on the raucous auction. It was a great day!

Vocation Office News

This past summer we updated ThinkPriest.org, the official website for the Vocation Office of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The new site has a fresh look and expanded content. It is also mobile friendly, which means you can easily look at it on a smartphone or tablet. You can find information on discernment, the priesthood, life in the seminary, our Milwaukee seminarians, resources, and the latest Vocation Office events. If you haven’t visited recently, come check it out!

Young men enjoy the discussion at the 2016 St. Andrew Dinner.

ThinkPriest.org Gets a New Look

During

St. Andrew Dinner Thursday, December 28 at 5 p.m. In an effort to encourage priestly vocations within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Fr. Luke Strand and Fr. Enrique Hernandez will host our annual St. Andrew Dinner at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. The St. Andrew Dinner is named after St. Andrew, who in the Gospel according to St. John brought his brother Simon Peter to meet Jesus. The dinner offers priests an opportunity to invite young men (high school age or young adult) who they think have the qualities needed to be a good priest. The young men who are invited will have a chance to ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere, learn more about the life of a priest, and hear vocation stories from seminarians and priests.

Both ThinkPriest.org and www.SFS.edu are now available on the go!

ThinkPriest.org features new content on vocations, discernment and the priesthood.

Fr. Luke Strand and Fr. Enrique Hernandez of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and Fr. Daniel Schuster of the Diocese of Green Bay will lead our annual Duc in Altum retreats. These silent, priestly discernment retreats will be available for high school young men (ages 14-18) on Dec 29-31 at the Mt. Tabor Center in Menasha, WI. The young adult (ages 18-35) retreat will be January 12-14 at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. In a world of great distractions, these

retreats are a perfect opportunity for young men who are discerning the priesthood to enter into silence and allow God to speak to their hearts.

You can reserve space for both events by contacting Emma Hegarty at 414-747-6437 or [email protected]. For more information, please visit us at www.thinkpriest.org/events.

Four New Priests

With praise and thanksgiving to almighty God, we announce the ordinations of Fr. Peter Kieffer (La Crosse), Fr. Adam Bradley (Green Bay), Fr. Matthew Rappl (Green Bay) and Fr. John Baumgardner (Milwaukee) through the imposition of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit. These four men are now priests formed in the image of Jesus Christ. We are very proud of all of them.
