Art Project Each student will paint a First Nations-inspired salmon on a cedar shingle. A device to hang the project is fastened to the back.
This new workshop begins with a visual presentation and discussion describing the the Pacific Salmon life cycle, their importance as a keystone species on Canada’s west coast and the environmental pressures facing them. The historic and present day importance of salmon to people, especially First Nations, in British Columbia is also discussed, followed by examples of salmon in art.
Prescribed Learning Outcomes This workshop achieves Life Science PLOs for Grades 2, 4 and 7, Earth Science PLOs for Grade 5 and several Social Studies PLOs (Culture and Human and Physical Environment) for Grades 2, 3, 4 and 6.
Duration of Workshop: Approximately 1.5 hrs (usually morning to recess, after recess to lunch, after lunch to end of school).
