Dear Donors and Friends, The 2018-2019 year was full of learning and great progress for me and for the University I completed my first full year as President in early July, and while I’m still getting to know more about SU and members of the community, this year taught me a great deal about the phenomenal people who make Salisbury University so special

It did not take long for me to become familiar with the

passion that so many of you have for SU and for our students Your commitment to them and to their success helps pave the way for future generations of Sea Gulls as they work toward a better future for all of us It’s one of the true privileges of my job to get to see the many talents and success stories of our alumni and friends, and I am grateful for your willingness to share with us

While we could never quantify the true value of your gifts to SU, your participation helps to support staff, increase faculty research and grow student scholarships As you may know, in June, we launched a new campaign for Salisbury University “We Are SU” is about strengthening our programs, increasing opportunity and opening doors for our students, but most importantly, it’s about making a commitment that we’re all in this together

Thank you for investing your time, talent and treasure to support our students, faculty and staff Best wishes for another year of growth and progress!

Charles A Wight President Salisbury University

For more than 40 years, the Salisbury University Foundation has been serving Salisbury University The last year, during which I’ve had the honor of serving as chair of the SU Foundation Board, has been an exciting part of its long history The University continues to grow, thanks, in part, to the SU Foundation Board members and its generous donors, all of whom are committed to Salisbury University

Founded in 1973, the Salisbury University Foundation, Inc was established to allow private donors the ability to make a powerful difference in the educational experience at Salisbury University We are a driven and dynamic fundraising operation with professional experts serving as dedicated staff and a volunteer board of directors I thank each of them for their talent and time As donors, I thank you for recognizing the importance of investing in Salisbury University

The SU Foundation has experienced a phenomenal period of growth over the last 20 years, increasing the value of assets held by the Foundation from $26 million in 1998 to $90 million in 2019 This year, 2019, marks the beginning of the “We Are S : The Campaign for Salisbury niversity,” which is designed to raise $75 million for enhancing our investment in students, faculty, staff and community engagement

Many exciting things are coming our way!

Creating Your Legacy Audrey Calvin “Chris” Christopher graduated from State Teachers College in 1941 As a student, he was president of the junior class and president of the Student Council He Audrey Calvin Chris Christopher

played on the soccer and baseball teams with classmates Frank Perdue and Goldy Tyler Chris spoke fondly of his time as a student at Salisbury and how it shaped his life

Chris’ fond memories of classmates and faculty and his love for education kept him connected to Salisbury and led him to create the Christopher Endowment for Education in 1996 He wanted to provide scholarship support for students in the

field of education He saw them as “the future,” and he knew the important role teachers serve to students and the community – just like the role his professors had served in shaping his life at Salisbury He was committed to give back in some way to his Alma Mater, and by putting SU in his will he was able to make a much larger impact on many students like Diana Schultz

“After receiving my M Ed in reading from SU, I was honored to be selected as one of the recipients of the Christopher Scholarship This scholarship provided me with a wonderful opportunity to continue doctoral

studies in literacy, enabling my learning and growth as a reading intervention teacher ”
