Here at Salisbury University, 2016-17 wasanother banner academic year. Afterleading the campus for 17 years, I knowevery day that I have the best job in theworld. We have students, faculty and staffwho continue to earn national andinternational recognition; and alumni andfriends like you, who continue to invest inthe University with time, talents andtreasure. We could not be more grateful.

We continue to see many physicalchanges on campus, providing students,student-athletes and coaches the excellentfacilities they deserve. Last fall, we openedthe $117 million Patricia R. Guerrieri

Academic Commons, made possible by a generous $8 million gift from theGuerrieri Family Foundation in honor of matriarch, Patti Lou. The next day,we cut the ribbon on a turf field and video scoreboard at the also very newSea Gull Stadium. In February, we added a hugely improved SoftballStadium. With more athletics complex upgrades on the horizon, SU willboast some of the best outdoor facilities in all of Division III.

Looking to the future, I announced a $5.5 million gift from Dave and PatsyRommel to support SU’s new Center for Entrepreneurship in downtownSalisbury and other activities of the campus and the Franklin P. PerdueSchool of Business. This special investment supports the economicdevelopment efforts of SU and the surrounding community by providing aplace for new business ideas and collaboration to grow.

The SU Foundation also is thinking about the future with the purchase ofsome 8.5 acres of land south of main campus on Route 13. The locationgives the University flexibility in the short and long term for growth andexpansion. It also bolsters our campus footprint to its largest size to date –over 200 acres.

I encourage you to visit our campus. Thank you for your continued supportof Salisbury University.

Dear Donors And Friends,

Janet Dudley-Eshbach, Ph.D.PresidentSalisbury University

Campus ImpactTo meet the 21st-century needs of our students and faculty, the University needed a newfacility: the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons. Triple the size of BlackwellLibrary, the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons features four times as manyseats, and this seating ranges from traditional tables and carrels to sofas, soft chairs, booths, bar-height stools, and even rocking chairs. Students working together have accessto 16 group study rooms and various spaces for collaboration. Expanded space for quietindividual study accommodates those who prefer to learn on their own, whether inreading rooms with expansive views of the campus or in nooks and crannies around thebuilding. Graduate students have their own dedicated space, the Graduate Commons, and night owls enjoy the large 24-hour space, including the two-story café. Food anddrink, in fact, are allowed in most parts of the building.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Michael Guerrieri, a longtime SU Foundation boardmember, eloquently paid tribute to his late mother. He cited her natural curiosity andnoted that the family was grateful for the opportunity to honor her “at the very placewhere she first met our father – on this campus.”

“It is our hope that the new Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons will put smiles onthe faces of all who use it and enable them to do special things for people in thecommunity,” Michael Guerrieri said. For decades, topping the wish list of

campus facilities has been a newlibrary. After years of anticipation, this wish finally became a reality infall 2016. The opening of thePatricia R. Guerrieri AcademicCommons marked a revolution inlearning for Salisbury University. With a new library, new café, andample space for study and research, the University now has a beautiful –and state-of-the-art – academic hub.In addition to its amazing libraryservices, the Patricia R. GuerrieriAcademic Commons is also the placeto find the new and expanded homesof several growing student, facultyand community learning centers.
