PROJECT UPDATES

Senior Scholarships

4-H Seniors The Saline County 4-H & FCE scholarship

application are available at: https://go.unl.edu/seniorscholarships

Application is due March 13 for 4-H Council and April 1 for the FCE.

NOTICE - SWINE EXHIBITORS

We have received notification that WholeStone Farms whom has purchased our fair hogs the last 2 years is now going ractopamine-free and will no longer be purchasing fair pigs. This greatly limits our outlet for fair pigs. The swine industry is changing and past practices of a few are threatening the future for all. International markets have strict drug tolerances and the companies longevity depends upon meeting these tolerance levels. We are exploring options and will continue to keep swine exhibitors informed.

The 4-H Council is offering scholarship money to those who did not apply for camp scholarships last fall.

Scholarship amounts of $25 (Camp Renegade & Camp Venture), $75 (ages 8-10) and (ages 11 & older); $100 for Big Red Camps are available.

Funds are limited - First Come-First Served until May 1 or funds are depleted. Please call our office to inquire about receiving one of these scholarships.

NOTE: Call our office for camp registration procedures before you begin your online registration. You will need a CAMP CODE to complete your registration and receive your discounted fee.

LET’S CELEBRATE SPRING with a March 4-H Workshop

Have you ever dyed eggs? People have been dying eggs long before the common store-

bought tablet coloring existed. In this activity you will dye eggs with silk ties.

You will also be decorating a small box to showcase your eggs. Your eggs will not be

edible, but you can keep them for an indefinite period

of time.

When: Saturday, March 28th Where: Extension Office, Wilber

Time: 10 a.m. to Noon Cost: $10 per participant

You will need to bring 100% silk ties for the project to work. Check the tag to be sure it reads 100% silk. You can find them at thrift stores or maybe dad or grandpa has one he no longer wears. Bright colors such as reds,

purples, and dark blues transfer dye the best. Choose the colors you like best. Please

also bring an old white t-shirt.

Youth ages 5-18 are welcome to attend.
