A View From The Club with General Manager, Ryan Eckroat
May is going to be another exciting month with lots of fun events
to take part in. Starting off with our annual Mother’s Day Brunch
on Sunday, May 10. Chef Don and the team have created a deli-
cious menu featuring Chicken Roulade, an omelet bar, pancakes and over 30
more items to enjoy as we celebrate the wonderful women that we’re fortu-
nate enough to call Mom.
The fun continues as we will be receiving all of our new pool furniture
this month. Along with a freshly painted pool, our new furniture will provide
a new and refreshed look and feel to our pool. To celebrate this project, our
annual Summer Kick-Off party will be Wednesday, May 20 with a Poolside
Party. We hope that you will all join us for what will surely be a fun evening
featuring a DJ, photo booth, bounce house, and games. We will also be fea-
turing a Taco and Margarita Bar in which you can choose from a wide variety
of proteins and ingredients to build your perfect street taco. The pool will be
open and heated for the party and while it is not required, all who would like
to swim are welcome and encouraged.
We also have an exciting staff announcement to celebrate this month. I
am thrilled to share that Don Morlan has been promoted to the role of Exec-
utive Sous Chef and will serve as the culinary leader. Don has been a valued
member of the SCC team and his drive, passion, and leadership have helped
us achieve continued success in improving food quality and consistency. I
have been very proud of what Don has achieved this winter and am looking
forward to his continued success in his new role.
Thank you all for your continued support of Salina Country Club!

This is a list of showings this month, if you or your kids have a movie you’ve wanted to see, let us know! We’d love
to show it.
Noah is our April Employee of the month. Noah was
nominated by his peers for showing a fantastic work
ethic, for always being prepared for work, and for
performing well in his position. Noah started
working at SCC in May 2013. Noah is an Expo, this
means Noah will bring the food from kitchen to
Waiter/Waitress. Noah is always smiling and has
great personality, be sure to stop in and congratulate
him on his hard work and this incredible achievement.
If you know anyone who, you feel has shown these qualities,
please let us know.

Hello! I am the new Membership Director here at SCC. I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. I attended college at Morningside University in Sioux
City, Iowa where I studied Computer Science and Technology. I transferred in from Tuc-son, Arizona where I was a Golf Professional at The Gallery Golf Club.
I have had the pleasure of meeting some of you in the short time I’ve been here,
and I have generally been asked the same question. “What does a Membership Director do?” To answer, my main focus is on membership growth and retention. This basically means I will be working to bring in more members, and to make the current members (you) happy. So if there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to ask! Along with this task, I will be working on the marketing, social media, and communications for the club. So this new newsletter you are looking at, the social media pages, and all of the signs and calendars around the facility.
Along with the update on the newsletter, we have made it very printer friendly.
We understand many of you would like to print the Newsletter to have it, or to have the Calendar. When you go through it now you will notice on almost every page it gives you a chance to print the packet. You will only need to print once. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
We have some very exciting things lined up for this season! Starting off with the
Summer Kick-Off May 20th. To stay current with all of the events, “Like” us on Facebook and Twitter, we will be updating them often! If you’re not on either, and want to be, please come find me, we will get you all set up. If you have any questions, or know of anyone interested in becoming a member, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

May is filled with golf events for the whole family. Starting on May 7th the payout will be big for Beat the Pros. Since no teams beat the pros last month, all the money from will be carried over to the May event. Then on May 19th & 20th is the Ladies Team tournament, followed by Couples Golf 9 & Dine on May 22nd along with Kids Movie Night. Call the Pro Shop to sign up. You can make your own pairing with another couple or we can pair you. Golf will begin at 6:00pm with dinner following. Be sure to make plans to attend the SCC Summer Kick-Off event on May 20th. As always, there will be all kinds of fun family activities, contests, food and drinks. We will also have sign up and schedules for all junior summer activities. Memorial Day will be our annual “Sweepstakes Tournament,” open to all members with a handicap. Make your own tee times and groups. Sign up for the tournament will be optional as you arrive that day. We will begin taking tee times for Memorial Day on Thursday May 21st, beginning at 7:00am, and will take them alternately by person and by phone.
Junior Golf Camp returns again by popular demand on May 28th & 29th. Junior camp is for all levels of junior golfers and is a great opportunity for kids to get more one on one instruction. Open to SCC kids ages 5 and up. Sign up in the Pro Shop or call for more details. Junior Golf schedules and program details will be available in the Pro Shop this month. SCC Junior Golf will begin on Wednes-day June 10th. The SCC Junior Golf program is open to all SCC juniors ages 5 and up. This year will include the most thorough instruction on swing, short game and etiquette. I will again offer the “Tournament Preparation” program each Wednesday which will feature more in depth instruction and will be open to all juniors interested in improving their tournament play. Also in May we will be offering “Free Tips at the Range” each Saturday from 2:00 to 3:30 for SCC members. If you are having trouble with your swing or just have a golf related question, this is a great opportunity to get some help from one of the pros. I am looking forward to a great month of golf at SCC. As always please let me know if there is anything I or my staff can do to help enhance your enjoyment of the club.
See you on the links.

Mike’s Minute with Mike Hulteen
To Explain Syringing Daytime syringing is one of the most critical operations taking place during the golfing season. When? Usually between 11:00 and 3:00 (grasses peak wilting point) Why? To prevent wilt/heat damage. How? By cooling the plant much the same way a shower cools one in the heat of the summer. It normally takes between 6-8 minutes per green and every effort is made to work between groups to inconvenience players as little as possible.
See you on the course
Mike
Tennis/Grounds
Maintenance Schedule
Mowing – Greens 6x week Tees/Approaches 3x week Collars 3x week Green/Tee Surrounds 3x week Fairways 3x week
Rough 2.5x week Bunkers raked 5-6x week Trim around trees weekly Cups changed 5-6x week Tee locations changed 5-6x week
Mowing of the greens, tees, collars and fairways normally starts between 5:00 & 6:00 am daily during the summer months. If mowers interfere with normal play it is usually the result of inclement weather, equipment downtime or heavy dew on the turf which prohibits a high quality of cut.
