Valerie AlonsoSpencer AngellSpencer is the son of James and Samantha Angell.

Throughout his high school years he has been involved

in Choir and Choraliers, Math Relays, and Scholar’s Bowl.

He has held an office in International Thespians, State

Thespian, and Troupe 639. He is a member of the

National Honor Society and currently is the President.

In addition to his school involvement he has worked

with Prayer & Action and participated as a Youth Board

Member for the Salina City Planning and Zoning

committee.

Spencer will attend the University of Arizona and

major in Finance.

Valerie is the daughter of Maria and Alvaro Alonso.

She has been actively involved in band all four years

of high school, she participated in the Eco-Meet, and

is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Outside of Central, Valerie makes a difference in

her community by encouraging and promoting

change through petitions, maintains a butterfly

garden, donates to homeless shelters, and even

enjoys delivering cupcakes and muffins to her older

neighbors.

Valerie will attend the University of Colorado

Denver next fall and major in Mathematics.

Erin FlaxReed McHenry

Erin Flax is the daughter of Ruby and Randy Flax.

Erin has been involved in various activities at Central

high School. She is in theatre and band. She writes

and designs for the yearbook, and she has

participated in Scholars Bowl.

Outside of the school day, Erin volunteers at the

Morrison House. She is also involved with the

Community Theatre. While in school, she volunteers

with the Salina Central Writing Center.

Erin will attend Kansas State University and major

in music education and theatre.

Reed is the son of Doug and Nancy McHenry. While

attending Salina Central he has participated in

basketball and state qualifying tennis teams, is very

active in Mustang Media, participates in Fellowship

of Christian Athletes, and is a Mathlete. Reed also

served his fellow Mustangs as a Link Leader.

Reed is a member of First Covenant Church and

volunteers in Relay for Life and the Salina Rescue

Mission.

Reed will attend the University of Nebraska Lincoln

and study business and computer science at the

Raikes School.

Makenzie MaringMaxwell Shaffer

Max is the son of Matthew and Rita Shaffer. Max has

been involved in Tennis and Yearbook throughout high

school and has been elected as the student body

President. Max has volunteered for the Relay for Life

campaign and Big Brothers/Big.

Max will attend the University of Colorado Boulder

and major in Ecology and Evolutionary Science.

Makenzie is the daughter of Greg and Jennifer

Maring. Makenzie is a leader on the volleyball team

and the softball team. She is also on the yearbook

staff and helps with Link Leaders. She has been

chosen to be included with National Honor Society.

Beyond her various activities at school, Makenzie

also volunteers for the Salina Relay for Life and

helps with Meals on Wheels.

Next year she will attend Kansas State University.

Kansas State Scholar: Completion of the Kansas Scholars Curriculum, combined 3.90 average GPA

and 30 average ACT composite score.

Kansas Scholars Curriculum Completer: Met the Board of Regents curriculum of four years of

English; three years of Math; three years of Science including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; three

years of Social Studies; and two years of Foreign Language.

President’s Educational Excellence Award: Score in the 85th percentile on the ACT test in reading or

mathematical skills, maintain a 3.50 GPA over 7 semesters - unweighted.
