• Children enter school developmentally on track in the areas of literacy and social, emotional and intellectual skills.

Financial Stability: Promoting Financial Stability and Independence Among Working Families

Strengthening Our Salina Area Community

Mark Troyer is a stay-at-home dad whose family has benefited from him taking parenting classes through CAPS. He was a former horse trainer and uses the metaphor that “training horses is a lot like raising children – you must be firm, yet gentle.” He chose the statue, Blood Brother, for this reason. Mark says he is now better prepared to handle the day to day challenges of raising two young adolescents. He is the father of twins, Jacob and Olivia.

Kids Are Our FutureACT for 2020 Grant Awarded to PIECE

By June 30, 2015, 85% of the children in Saline County entering kindergarten will have the necessary skills to be successful. This goal is measured quantitatively by the Pre-Kindergarten Screen (PKS) and qualitatively by a survey asking for objective impressions from kindergarten teachers using questions from the TS Gold to measure social emotional kindergarten readiness.

PIECE, Partners In Early Childhood Education, Sixteen agencies are working together to meet the goal of school readiness for all.

Born Learning Trail

Born Learning Trail constructed in Salina’s Oakdale Park. Trails provide a “value add” to communities by offering outdoor learning games that build pre-literacy skills critical to school readiness.

Financial Stability

Tracy Peat is recovering from a lifelong battle with drug and alcohol abuse. She moved to Salina from Garden City to better herself through the programs offered by the Ashby House. She chose the Butterfly Girl Statue because the girl is setting butterflies free, much like Tracy herself is now free from addiction. While it’s been a tremendous battle, Tracy feels supported by the Salina community and has chosen to relocate here permanently.

Strengthening Our Salina Area Community

Health

Lori Blake is the HR Manager at Choices Network. She is a success story through the American Red Cross Ready Rating System which rates your preparedness and resilience should a natural disaster ever strike. About 60% of businesses fail to survive after such an event. Choices Network used the system to realize there was much work to be done and have been working to “ready” themselves to achieve the Ready Rating thumbs up. Her statue is called Start Paddling which is fitting with natural disaster resiliency and preparedness.

American Red Cross - North Central Kansas Chapter A humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, which provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Ashby House, Ltd. Our mission is to empower homeless families and individuals to improve self-sufficiency, self-advocacy and holistic recovery through life skills and practical application. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina, Inc. Offering meaningful and impactful relations between adults and at-risk youth who are facing adversity due to a variety of unfortunate socioeconomic or psychosocial factors. Catholic Charities of Salina, Inc. Providing adoption, counseling, emergency assistance, disaster relief, senior housing, immigration and assimilation services in Salina, Hays, Manhattan and Concordia. Central Kansas Foundation for Alcohol and Chemical Dependency Provides affordable, quality alcohol and drug prevention/treatment services including assessment, outpatient and inpatient treatment, social detoxification, continuing care, case management and prevention/education programs. Child Advocacy & Parenting Services, Inc. Provides free in-home parenting instruction, case management, family support, respite childcare, parenting classes, CASA and Child Advocacy Center services to prevent child abuse/neglect in North central Kansas. Coronado Area Council, Boy Scouts of America Providing age-specific citizenship training, character development and personal fitness programs for youth in 32 counties of North Central and Northwest Kansas.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services Consumer Credit Counseling Services is a not-for-profit agency bringing hope and stability to Kansas families by offering financial solutions through education and counseling.

Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas Provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. We offer safe shelter, crisis counseling, court advocacy, support groups and much more.

Certified Funded Partners

Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, Inc. Premier leadership development program for girls across 80 Kansas counties. We build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Kansas Legal Services Our mission is to provide legal assistance to low-income families in matters of civil law and refer families to services that help them obtain self-sufficiency. Martin Luther King, Jr. Child Development Center Provides early care and education for children ages two weeks to six years and prepares them developmentally and socially for Kindergarten. Salina Child Care Association, Inc. Full day, year round, early childhood care and education in a developmentally appropriate, accredited program for children aged 2 weeks - 12 years of age.

Salina Family Healthcare Center (Salina Health Education Foundation) Providing primary care for uninsured, underinsured, economically disadvantaged families and providing education in family medicine for physicians wanting to practice in rural Kansas. Salina Family YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association) The largest nonprofit provider of quality accredited childcare, youth sports and adult fitness in Saline County. The Salvation Army Soup kitchen, food, clothing, counseling, case management, utility assistance, prescriptions, eye exams, after school program, youth programs, Christmas assistance, adult programs, and Emergency Disaster Services. The Volunteer Connection (Department of Kansas Wesleyan University) Mobilizes volunteers of all ages to address community needs and enables community entities to enhance their services through utilization of volunteer resources. United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas Provides assistive technology, independent living support, advocacy, information and referral services for persons with various disabilities not just cerebral palsy.
