Network: A group of computers working together.

Type of Networks: Peer to Peer Network, Client/Server, Internet, etc.

Most common Technology in Networking: Client/Server

What is a “Thin Client” ?

What Is A Thin Client?

A Hardware/Software configuration that runs applications on a

server, not on a desktop.

Key strokes and mouse clicks are sent over network to the server

to process and give back the result to a connected device (

desktop PC or intelligent screen)

Thin Clients can be a low powered PC (Box-PC (ARK) or

Automation PC (UNO) with external monitor connected or a

customized special PC-based device and with special Boot SW

Thin Clients do not need for HDD, FDD, CDROMS, Cooling Fans a

lot of memory or high Processing Power... Only requires a CF

device or ROM for booting into the network

So Then What Exactly Is A Thin Client?

?

What Makes A Thin Client Network?

Hardware:

• Power Full Server with multi core processor, large Memory , Ethernet 100/1000Mbs Network.

(Compaq Proliants, HP Netserver & IBM NetFinity, ADVANTECH Rack IPC server )

• Thin Clients (intelligent Monitors (IBM,Neoware,WYSE, SUN ,

Compaq,NCD etc..)

or

• A low Processing Panel PC or Box-PC with screen.

Software:

• Client communication SW such as:

Citrix Meta Frame software or any other specific client communication SW such as ACP Thin Manager V5.0 (supported by UNO

and TPC)

• Windows 2000/2003 Terminal Services.

or

• Windows CE, linux, Android, emXP …

Ideal For 30-40 Clients running common Office application software,

Internet, etc

Comparing a thin client PC versus Standard

“Thin Client” Advantages Over “standard PC`s”

Dramatically Decreases The TCO by 54% to 57%.

Decreases IT Cost By 80% Through Reduced Staff And Centralized

Software Management. (Does not Crash, NO Help DESK)

Greatly Simplifies The Software Upgrade Over The Network.

Eliminates The Hardware Upgrades On Client Side.

Increases End User Productivity. (Limited Access To Authorized Applications & Storage)

Increased Life Time Of Client. (NO Moving Part ,Less Power Usage)

Provides Higher Security. (Authentication, virus protection, data on server, theft).

No Access to HDD, FDD, CD-ROMS. (Avoids Downloads, installations, Junk Data on to the HDD)

Thin Clients Are Virus Proof. (Since No OS And HDD Resides On It)

Reduced Power Consumption.

Centralized Backup. (Home Directory Mapping)

RISC based PCs Can Be Converted To Thin Client And Can Work At

Speed of a Pentium Processor.

• Microsoft – NT/2000/2003 Terminal Services

(RDP)Remote Desktop Protocol

• Citrix – MetaFrame (ICA) Intelligent Console Architecture

Who are the Main Players in Thin client SW ?

RDP ICA

What are the benefits for A Thin Client user?

Requires about 1/3 of the space size of a normal desktop PC

Requires about 30% of the power consumption as of a normal

desktop PC.

Works In the same way and at the same speed as desktop PC.

Supports Windows Environment.

Fast boot-up time – no wait for up-dates and memory testing

No involvement about Anti-virus protection SW and Up-dates

Can be configured with as a minimum memory of 16Mb RAM.

Same Feel As Working On Any Windows Based OS.

Remote Computation….Server Takes Care Of All The Processing.

Works On either Citrix`s ICA, ACP´s Thinmanager Or

Microsoft's RDP Protocols (Both Require Only 20Kbps Speed

Over Network To Work).

User Logs On TO The Server Via Web Portal And A Familiar

Windows Base Environment is Replicated On TO Users Screens

With Access To Application, Internet, Mail, Drives, Printers, Etc.

Growth OF Thin Client Popularity due to reduced HW costs for embedded Clients and increasing overall maintenance costs

• Growth Of Last Years Market for thin client devices by 18% where else

Desktop Pc`s remain flat round the world.

• The world market for Thin Clients is projected to reach 14.36 million

units in sales by the year 2015.

• Growth will be primarily driven by the ability of thin clients to present

exceptional environmental and cost benefits to the user.

• Desktop virtualization, cloud computing and growing need for anytime,

anywhere accessibility to corporate & Internet networks are the other

trends that augur well for thin clients market
