A Word from Our President, Jean Jordan

September is almost here and I am excited about our new year for the Bees. 2016-2017 brings the 70th anniversary of the Clipped B's, and we are still buzzing and having lots of fun. I hope you had a great summer and got to spend a lot of quality time with family and friends. We made a change over the summer for the location of our board meetings. We will now meet at Dunston's Steakhouse at 5423 West Lovers Lane, Dallas 75209. The time didn't change; we still meet at 11:00 am. Please review and put on your calendar the meetings and events below! ALL CLIPPED B’S ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN US AT OUR BOARD MEETINGS! We hold a short meeting, then have fun visiting and having lunch! Braniff History and Architecture conference will be held Saturday, Sept 10, 2016 at the old Braniff Place now Verizon Place. The event will take place from 0900-1600 and the cost is $45. This price includes lunch and non alcoholic beverages all day. Clipped B's will have at least 20 models wearing Pucci or Halston. There is seating for 400, the 2014 event was outstanding and this promises also to make you proud to have been a Braniff employee. Thank you again for allowing me to serve as your president. We have some new officers this year and we look forward to working together for another great year for the Clipped B's.

2016 Annual Spring Luncheon

The Annual Spring Luncheon was held on Friday, May 6, at Bent Tree Country Club! This year we decided on a Western theme. There were over 100 Boot Scootin’ B’s in attendance! Everyone wore their western attire and enjoyed their complimentary Cowgirl Punch upon arrival. The food was fabulous, as usual! We were entertained with a dance program by Karen Aubry and her dance group followed by a teaching session where many of us learned a line dance. During the luncheon we had a silent auction which was a big success! Many thanks to Elizabeth Bentley for getting us organized in this endeavor!

Karen’s Dance Group: Shannon Morehouse, Karen Aubry, Richard Brown, Bev McGuire

Sylvia flew for Braniff from 1965 – 1992 and was President of the Houston Clipped B’s from 2006 – 2010. Hanna and Mark’s Antarctic Trip was their 7th continent and 131st country trip according to the Traveler’s Century Club. Their Italian cruise in September of this year will put their count at 138. They hope to reach 150 countries by late 2017 or early 2018. Hanna says, “Joining the Traveler’s Century Club has enriched our lives and encouraged us to visit countries and places we had never thought of. The club meets in Dallas in October.” Hanna is, no doubt, your “go-to” person if you are planning to travel to various continents. She and her husband just returned (July) from a brief trip to Bermuda.

WORDS FROM A PILOT: During a commercial airline flight, an experienced Air Force Pilot was seated next to a young mother with a babe in arms. When the baby began crying during the descent for landing, the mother began nursing the infant as discreetly as possible. The pilot pretended not to notice; and, upon disembarking, he gallantly offered his assistance to help with the various baby-related items. When the young mother expressed her gratitude, the pilot responded, "that's a good looking baby, and he sure was hungry!" Somewhat embarrassed, the mother explained that her pediatrician said that the time spent on the breast would help alleviate the pressure in the baby's ears. The Air Force Pilot sadly shook his head, and in true pilot fashion exclaimed, "And all these years, I've been chewing gum."

Barbara Burnett (60-62), Betty Rosenberg (58-62), & Nancy Shaw (58-60) visit Connie Biggar (58-59, seated) in her new apartment.

This past May, three Clipped B's visited Connie Biggar in North Richland Hills to chat about old times. Connie, Betty, and Nancy were roommates beginning with their meeting in hostess-training class in 1958. Barbara became a good friend when they met as Clipped B's. Betty has resided in Charleston, SC, since 2003 after her husband passed in Dallas, and grandchild was born 2 months later in South Carolina. She visits Dallas often and always puts a visit to Connie at the top of her list of people to see. Connie fell in her home in 1995. After 2 surgeries and a stroke, she became wheelchair bound and has been so ever since. Connie has never lost her joy for living. She did lose her ability to speak, but communicates through her many scrapbooks, drawings, and writings. She especially appreciates reminiscing about her Braniff days as a hostess, and subsequent activities with the Clipped B's. Her husband, Richard, has been her devoted caretaker along with her daughter, Michele, who has been a major lifeline. Connie also has a son, Brad, and 3 grandchildren who keep her absolutely entertained and optimistic about life. It would be a certain uplifting gesture if any of the B's want to send her a card, a clipping or anything about Braniff from the past. Her address is in the Yearbook.
