  • Saints & Basilicas of

Upper New YorkDay 1: We depart from our local area for the beginning of our journey to Auriesville NY, location of the Shrine of the North American Martyrs.

Arrive mid-morning at the National Shrine of the North American Martyrs, dedicated to those Jesuit Fathers who were martyred bringing the Catholic faith to the inhabitants of the area of Qubec province and northern NY. Here stands the largest Catholic coliseum in the US, seating over 6000 and room for another 3000 standing. The site boasts 5 chapels, 2 museums, a Jesuit cemetery and Stations of the Cross. After our visit we depart for Syracuse with a stop shortly after departing to have lunch.

Late afternoon arrival to Syracuse and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Built at the turn of the century as a Polish parish, the Basilica boasts some of the most ornate stained glass windows in the US. After touring this magnificent testament to our Catholic faith we depart for check in at our hotel and dinner shortly afterwards. Overnight Syracuse

Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel we depart for St. Adalbert Basilica in Buffalo NY. Named after the famous Czech born Polish martyr and built as a parish for the areas Polish immigrants. It was the 1st basilica in the US. It is truly a beautiful example of the trend at the time to rival European churches and Cathedrals. After our visit we depart for a quick stop at the Sacred Heart Diocesan Shrine, a quaint Marian grotto replica built with field stone by local men. Its a peaceful stop for prayer and reflection.

After lunch we journey to Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist boat excursion. This exciting ride gives all who visit the best views of Niagara Falls and an opportunity to view the falls from its base. Following our ride we head to our hotel on the Canadian side of the falls for dinner and an evening at leisure. Overnight Niagara Ontario

Day 3: After breakfast we are off to visit the North American Martyrs Shrine of Canada, located in Midland Ontario. Similar to the Shrine we started our pilgrimage with, this one honors the Jesuit fathers as well, with slightly different perspective. After our visit there we head back to the US and enjoy lunch along the way to the Basilica of the National Shrine of Fatima. This beautiful Shrine features a domed Top of the World with Our Lady of Fatima on top and a gorgeous Rosary Pond in front. After our visit we depart for the National Shrine of St. Kateri Tekawitha and the Holy Springs, which still flow and are credited with numerous miracles.

We head back to Newport with a revived sense of spirituality and confirmation of the faith we profess as Catholic Christians. Dinner stop before arriving back home.
