ANNUAL FUND DRIVE

Thank you to all of the parishioners who contributed to the 2017

Annual Fund Drive. Donations totaling $47,075 will go toward

the rectory - making it handicapped accessible and updating the

office and meeting spaces. Your continued generosity and

support are greatly appreciated.

My dear friends,

The Feast of Epiphany is here! This is the glorious day in

which we rejoice in the Son of God being made manifest to the

world. We see more fully the glory of the Incarnation. The

light of salvations shines for all the world to see. The star that

guided the Magi is visible to all, not just to those in Judea.

These Gentiles come from afar to adore the Son of God.

Though the star shines brightly, only a few ever notice. Most

people are too concerned about the cares of daily life to notice

this sign in the heavens. It’s easy to miss that something glori-

ous has occurred. Only the most alert ever took notice.

It’s funny. We speak of angels singing and stars in the sky,

but how many people ever noticed? What were they doing?

Sure, we like to imagine that we’d know and go to greet the

Lord at his birth, but would we? How many of us ever look up

from our smartphones or turn away from the television or com-

puter screen long enough to notice what’s happening in the same

room, let alone up in the sky? How many of us ignore what’s

said by the person sitting next to us, let alone the message being

proclaimed by angels in the heavens? Even the greatest signs

and wonders will be missed by most people, simple because we

don’t know nor do we care to see. The Feast of Epiphany calls

us to be more alert to the presence of the Son of God in our

midst.

God is present to us and working all around us. You can see

Christ in the people who work with adults with intellectual and

development impairments. You can see Jesus in the face of peo-

ple who battle their own disease each day and still care for fami-

ly and friends. You can experience the power of God in those

who strive to care for the homeless and people who have mini-

mal heat or shelter in these bitterly cold months. The glory of

the Incarnation continues in the people of God, members of the

Body of Christ, who live among us and put His love into prac-

tice each and every day. Don’t let the chaos and evil in the

world blind you to the light that is all around us. Pay attention

to that light of salvation in this word. Look around and listen.

The message is proclaimed and the glory of Christ continues to

shine. Be among those who see and hear. Don’t let the chance

pass us. Be alert!

Hopefully yours in Christ, Fr. Joe
