PHILOPTOHOS NEWS
Today is our meeting after liturgy. Maria Kootsikas, Dr. of
Pharmacy, will be speaking on vaccinations. If you have
children and wish to ask questions about school vaccines, or
any other vaccines you may be wondering about, this is your
chance to come and get your questions answered!
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS: Philoptohos wants to
recognize that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month in
honor of all our family and friends who are fighting - or have
fought - this disease. Have your physical and talk with your
doctor. If you are supposed to have a mammogram every year
then please do it. Regular self-exams are a very important part
of early detection too! Philoptohos has made an extra
donation this month to an organization for breast cancer
research, grants and awareness programs in honor of all
women!
CHRISTMAS CANDY: SKIP THE LONG LINES AT
SEE’S AND LET PHILOPTOHOS PURCHASE YOUR
CANDY AND DELIVER IT TO CHURCH! WHAT
COULD BE EASIER?? Philoptohos has prepared an order
form for See’s holiday candy for Christmas. We will be selling
1 lb. boxes of Assorted Chocolates, Nuts and Chews, a
snowman Christmas box, plus large chocolate Santas. The
order form will be in the October Herald and you may pre-
order your items by sending the form with a check to
Philoptohos Treasurer, Scarlett Billis.

PHILOPTOHOS NEWS
All information will be on the order form but be sure to mail your check and order directly to Scarlett. If there is something special you wish to order please call Scarlett and let her know. The money we raise will be given to the Metropolis Philoptohos as our donation to the Bishop Anthony Student Aid Endowment Fund. Buy gifts for family, friends and business associates! Pre-ordered candy will be available for pickup on November 16 at our Thanksgiving luncheon plus we will have extra boxes available for purchase! We will be selling candy through December 14th or until it is sold out.
SALVIN SCHOOL FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN: This year the school attendance has dropped while the LAUSD moves and mainstreams children to other campuses. We plan to make a total of only 60 food boxes this year - 30 for Thanksgiving and 30 for Christmas, for the very poorest of families. Each box will cost approximately $25. If you wish to join in and donate to this project, please send your donation to Philoptohos and mark it for “Salvin School”. The children at this school are severely limited physical and mentally. They are unable to move, walk, speak or see. Both parents have to work jobs to support everyone and there are often other children in the home to care for as well as caring for the special needs child. Their lives are very challenging.
“For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me” John 12:8. With love in Christ’s service, Virginia Noyes and The Philoptohos Board of Directors
