This Lent grow closer to Christ through a five-part video series, entitled “No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion”, that guides us through the last hours of Christ’s life. Plus, a daily reflection from one of our clergy.

On this biblical pilgrimage, filmed on location in the Holy Land, best-selling author Edward Sri will walk us step by step with Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Mount of Calvary. Along the way, Dr. Sri and others will unpack the biblical background to these events, the prophecies, and most especially, the way Jesus is inviting us to walk more closely with Him today. The Children's “Liturgy of the Word” dismissal is celebrated at the Sunday, 9 am Mass, through May 2020. The children are invited to hear the word proclaimed and explained at their level. They will rejoin their families at the time of the creed, to

continue the celebration of the Mass. All children are welcome. Parents are invited to join their children, especially those too young to dismiss alone.

SEEKING THE LIGHT

In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and chal-lenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death / light has arisen” (Matthew 4:16). Jesus contemplates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom.

BUSCAMOS LA LUZ

En las lecturas de hoy nos encontramos deseando una relación más profunda con Jesús. Lo vamos conociendo un poco más al ver cómo le afecta la noticia del arresto de su primo Juan. Su primera reacción es retirarse, dejar Nazaret e irse a Cafarnaúm. Es allí donde quizás encuentra tanto consuelo como reto en las palabras de Isaías que Mateo cita: “El pueblo que caminaba en tinieblas vio una gran luz. Sobre los que vivían en tierra de sombras una luz resplandeció” (Mateo 4:16). Jesús contempla la muerte de su primo, y quizás su propia muerte, y busca la luz. Tal vez son estas palabras de Isaías las que sacan a Jesús de su retiro y lo lanzan a la acción, pues él comienza a predicar, enseñar, curar enfermedades y a proclamar el Evangelio del Reino.

Vocations ‘ Corner

Let us pray for those who devote their lives to vocational ministry; we pray that they will not stop throwing out nets in Christ’s name so that the Church would have the vocations it needs to fulfill

its mission. Inspire and help the priests who work in seminaries and houses of formation so that they can give the Church saints, doctors, martyrs, apostles and witnesses of Christ imbued with new missionary zeal for the new

evangelization. Exciting News! St. Rose has adopted a seminarian to assist him with our prayers and support during his educational process. His name is Victor Goranov.

A little about Victor…his favorite devotion is the Jesus Prayer. His discernment to the priesthood first emerged out of being in the RCIA process learning about our faith, and learning about the “priest shortage” within the Church. That’s when he first came across the practice of discernment, which was previously unknown to him. He was born in Russia in 1991. He has a degree in history from UC Davis. In 2016, a few months prior to starting seminary, Victor lived an A.C.T.S. retreat; which he states, “was a holy experience”. He is attending year two of Theology at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park and appreciates our prayers.

Un poco sobre Víctor ... su devoción favorita es la oración de Jesús. Su discernimiento al sacerdocio surgió primero de estar en el roceso de RICA aprendiendo acerca de nuestra fe y aprendiendo acerca de la "escasez de sacerdotes" dentro de la Iglesia. Fue entonces cuando se encontró por primera vez con la práctica del discernimiento, que antes era desconocido para él. Nació en Rusia en 1991. Es licenciado en histo-ria por UC Davis. En 2016, unos meses antes de comenzar el seminario, Victor vivió un Retiro de A.C.T.S. que él afirma, "fue una experiencia sagrada". Asiste en el segundo año de Teología en el Seminario de San Patricio en Menlo Park y aprecia nuestras oraciones. Más información muy pronto .
