Saint Pius X Catholic School Newsletter
Dear Saint Pius X Family and Friends, Catholic Schools Week continues at a fast pace as we have enjoyed many fun events this week. The week started off with a breakfast for teachers on Monday morning with special thanks from our spirituality committee for hosting this lovely meal. Bishop McGuinness High School sent thirty-eight of our alumni to read to our students on Monday afternoon, and we all enjoyed the company of these fantastic young men and woman. It was exciting for us to have so many of our former students wanting to come back to spend some quality time with us at Saint Pius X. On Tuesday we enjoyed a school Mass led by students from a variety of age groups, and Monsignor Marcaccio had a beautiful homily to share with us all. Wednesday began with teachers passing out conversation hearts to our parents thanking them for sending their children to our Catholic school. The day continued with a very successful open house for prospective parents who are interested in learning more about our school. We also had special guest speakers, Mr. Flannery and Mrs. Lasley, who shared information about Reelin’ for Research, a local charity that we are supporting with our “No Dress Code Day” on Friday for all of our 456 students. Wednesday ended with a special treat of a “No Homework” day for the students. Today, the faculty and staff were treated to a special luncheon at the Simmons Parish Center hosted by our PTO. A special thank you goes to Mrs. King and her committee for making the faculty and staff feel so loved. Friday is shaping up to be a wonderful day with our “No Uniform Day” Friday, along with free pizza for all of the students and our PTO Family Valentine’s Day Dance on Friday night. If you have not yet purchased tickets, please know that you can buy tickets at the door. The dance will be held on Friday night at 7:00-9:00 PM in the Connolly Athletic Center. On Saturday we have home basketball games against Our Lady of Grace. Our eighth grade recognition for our eighth grade student athletes will take place between the boys’ junior varsity basketball game and the varsity girls’ basketball game. Whew, after all of this activity one would think we need a rest, but no, next week begins our spirit week culminating with the PECSSA tournament next weekend. Please consult the list in today’s newsletter for our special dress up days next week. Dressing up is optional, but it is a fun way to show your school spirit! We are planning our eighth grade trip to Washington D. C. and we hope to have more information about this great trip in the next week or so. Information will be emailed to all families of eighth grade students once all arrangements are complete. I hope you all have had a fabulous Catholic Schools Week, and I want to personally thank each and every parent for all of your support of Saint Pius X Catholic School. We have a wonderful school community and I feel truly blessed to be a small part of it. Cheerfully in Christ,
Ann G. Flynt, M.Ed. Principal

The SPX Library Needs Your Help! Please help the SPX Library! We are seeing more and more books not being returned on time for library class or books that are lost. So far this school year, 22 library books have been lost. In order for a student to choose a book and checkout each week they must return their library book(s) by or on their scheduled library day. We want everyone to find a great book each week, and if books come back on time that helps keep the Library collection stay in great shape for your child when they visit! Here are some tips that can help:
create library spot in your home remind your child that it is library class day have your child put the library books in
their backpacks remind your child to take the library books
OUT of their backpacks on library day place book(s) in the library bin in their
classroom please read the purple overdue notices sent
home in Thursday folders each week. Many thanks!
Christina Foley, SPX Librarian Your generosity will be appreciated by many!
Thank you to those who have donated to the Triad Catholic Schools Annual Giving Campaign on behalf of Saint Pius X School. We have so far raised $11,827 of our $20,000 goal!
