A Father's Day Reflection - Part 2 by Michael Voris
(continued from last week's bulletin)
So what is a Catholic man?
Authentic Catholic men are men of prayer because that is, when the final guns go off, being in closest relation to God, which is the perfect definition of Heaven. So men who do not pray — or pray a little — can never be authentically Catholic men. They might begin to approach that goal. They will never embrace it into themselves.
But now we encounter a problem. For too long, men have stayed somewhat out of touch with religion and prayer, at least on a regular basis. It's viewed, if even subconsciously, as women's work. Church and the parish, etc., being somehow relegated to the haunt of the feminine. Given the dismal state of most parishes these days, that's not a totally unjustified opinion, but it is still incorrect. The Eternal Logos, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, came to earth and assumed the flesh of, not just humanity, not just mankind, but of a male — a flesh and blood body of a man.
If that doesn’t instantly and completely blow up the thought of "religion is for women," then you're brain dead. Men must be in communion with Heaven, and that is done specifically through prayer. In fact, the definition of prayer is being in communion with Heaven. And allow us to suggest that a perfect prayer for men is: the Rosary. It takes discipline. It takes focus. It takes exercising will power. It needs sheer force to form the habit. It requires sacrifice, concentration and dedication — in short, all the qualities that make a man, a man; a Catholic man.
The Holy Rosary is anything but feminine. Most of the great saints and holy men of the past nearly thousand years prayed it incessantly — giant men, warriors of the faith. The Rosary is a weapon, a deadly weapon to Satan. Dads praying the Rosary are "killer dads", deadly dads to the sworn enemy of their families: the serpent. It's a Gatling gun lighting up the diabolical with a ferocious incoming assault — the ammo clip being provided by our 12-star general, the Mother of God, who commands that this be prayed.
That's the point of the Rosary: to awaken within us, especially men, our high calling to turn and concentrate our male powers, elevated by grace, on the enemy of our loved ones. How do we rightly defend their souls? By embracing the war and the sacrifice needed to fight it. Encourage your dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, to embrace the battle for your sake. Authentic manhood is ordered to holiness. There are very few more sure fire ways to holiness than the Holy Rosary.

Attention Older Men 70+ ... Yes, that is you! A Senior Men's Prayer Breakfast will be held on Saturday - August 11 at 9 AM in the Kountry Kitchen Restaurant on Smith Avenue. Question: is the Lord calling us to make another step towards him? If interested, telephone Joe Habershaw at 401.349.2033.
Pray the “Patriotic Rosary” on July 4th
… Immediately following the 8 AM daily Mass on Independence Day – Wednesday, July 4th, we will stay in Church to pray the “Patriotic Rosary”
which incorporates various quotes from America’s influential leaders (including our most-famous Presidents and other national heroes) with the Mysteries of the Rosary. Each one of the 50 United States is named and specifically prayed for on the “Hail Mary” beads. It takes about 40 minutes but well worth the investment of time, spirit, and prayer, asking the good Lord to watch over and protect our beloved country, dedicated to the patronage of Our Lady! Join us on the 4th as we make intercession to Mary, Our Mother and patroness of the United States of America.
Saint Vincent de Paul The Clothes Bins Are Back!
Three large, white, metal bins are waiting to receive your donations of clothes; they are located at the far corner of the Church parking lot, near the dumpsters. A sign on each bin indicates that clothing donations should be:
· Clean
· Odorless
· wearable
Thank you for abiding by these guidelines for clothes and please also observe the sign that indicates that no donations should be left outside the bins! Thank you for your cooperation and your donations of good, wearable, and usable clothing and textiles.
Saint Philip Parish Finance Council ... will meet in the Saint Joseph Conference Room on Monday - June 25 at 7:15 PM.

Mission Appeal: The Congregation of Divine Providence ...
Each parish is assigned a mission group for our annual Mission Cooperative Appeal. This year, Saint Philip’s will host a missionary from the Sisters / Congregation of Divine Providence who will speak at all our Masses on Saturday and Sunday – June 30 and July 1. The second collection at all Masses on June 30 and July 1 will be for the Congregation of Divine Providence throughout the world. Please note: There is no envelope in the budget packet for this special collection but for e-givers, the fund is listed ... please consult your e-giving account!
Urgent Need: Infant Items ... We have received an urgent request from the Mother of Life Center on Atwells Avenue in Providence for donations of "infant items": specifically needed are boys' and girls' clothes and diapers for newborns to 1-year-olds. Baby clothes should be new or very gently used, please! Donations may be left in the baskets at our Church doors and they will be delivered to the Mother of Life Center as they are received.
Shrines of Italy: A Pilgrimage with Father Frank
in May 2019 ... All are welcome to come to an Information Meeting on Wednesday - June 27 at 7:30 PM in the School Library to find out more information about a pilgrimage to the shrines of Italy, led by Father Frank in May 2019. Cities to visit will include: Rome, Assisi, Florence, Loreto, San Giovanni Rotondo, and Montecassino featuring the shrines of Saint Francis, Our Lady of Loreto, Saint Padre Pio, the monastery of Saint Benedict, with a tour of the Vatican Museums and a Papal Audience. After the success of the Pilgrimage to Israel this past March, Father Frank has decided to once again lead a another pilgrimage abroad. Refreshments will be served during the information meeting as we experience our upcoming pilgrimage through an engaging presentation. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday - June 27 at 7:30 PM and we also look forward to seeing you in Italy!
Weddings on Sundays ... A couple of years ago, our Parish began booking weddings on Sunday afternoons. Because of the nature of Sunday as the Lord's Day when we are obliged to assist at Mass, "Sunday weddings" can only take place during the celebration of a Mass; therefore no wedding ceremony "outside of Mass" can be booked for a Sunday. Wedding Masses will be booked at these times only: 2 PM, 2:30 PM, 3 PM, 3:30 PM. Only 1 wedding Mass will be offered on any given Sunday. By diocesan guideline, musicians may ask for an additional money-offering, over and above their usual wedding stipend, when their services are needed for a Sunday wedding.
Wedding Celebration The Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment of the Diocese of Providence is sponsoring the 2018 Wedding Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 1 PM at the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul, Providence. This celebration includes Mass, renewal of the wedding vows, a personalized certificate for each couple and a reception for the couples and their families. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will be the main celebrant and homilist. Married couples who are celebrating their 25th, 40th, 50th and over wedding anniversaries in 2018 will be honored at this celebration. Couples who would like to attend can register for this event through the Parish Office before Monday, August 13.

Father Zinno began his service as an Assistant Pastor here at Saint Philip's when he was a newly-ordained priest. Pray that the Lord will call many more young men to his service and that those called will hear and answer God's call to service within the Church. Pray, especially, for the young men of our own Parish who are currently considering a priestly vocation and our 3 seminarians enrolled in the Seminary on their path to priesthood!

Steubenville East Youth Conference 2018 ~ Calling All Prayer Warriors! Will you join us in prayer? Can you offer up a rosary, a daily mass, an hour of Eucharistic Adoration, fast from a meal, or more for our group heading to Steubenville East the weekend of July 13-15? This is a very special way to be connected to what the Lord is doing in and through the lives of everyone involved with the Conference. We have full confidence in the power of prayer - not because of our own effort, but relying totally on the power of God's Divine Providence and Divine Mercy. We know His grace will pour forth in a special way through this "network of prayer”. If you are able to join our team of prayer warriors, please contact Melissa (401) 349-0785 or [email protected] to let her know what you what you are able to offer, and the time. Our prayer warriors will begin offering Daily Mass on July 1 and go through July 22. We are also looking for prayers during our weekend conference. Thank you!
