Feast of

The Epiphany of the Lord

“Like the magi, how willing am I

to ‘go the extra mile’ to find Jesus

In my daily life?”

On page 135, our Sunday Missal (blue book) offers this

question for our reflection, as we consider the meaning of

this episode in our Gospel reading today (Matthew 2:1-12)

and what it says to us today. Ask yourself that very ques-

tion, and then take time to listen for your response.

Parish 175th Anniversary in 2016 A 175th Anniversary Committee is forming and has

held two preliminary meetings. A 175th anniversary theme is

being considered: “Heritage, History: Handing on what has

been Given to Us,” an outline of possible activities and

events, mementoes, etc. are being discussed and presented to

the Parish Pastoral Council. The next meeting will be held

on Monday January 26, 2016 in Grotto Hall. Eventually we

will need many people to help pull and put small individ-

ual pieces together – therefore we will need the assistance

of everyone in the parish. When the outline is published in

the bulletin and you see an area of interest, please offer your

services by contacting the parish office 570-265-2113 or Bill

Farley ([email protected])

or Fr. Ed (michelini26 @ yahoo.com). If you would like to

be part of the organizing Committee, please contact with the

above. A draft outline will be placed in the bulletin after the

New Year. Thank You!

Is 2015 an Anniversary Year for you?

If you will be celebrating 25 or 50 years of marriage in

2015, you may wish to be included in the Diocesan cele-

bration on June 21: a Wedding Anniversary Mass and Re-

ception hosted by Bishop Joseph C. Bambera in Scranton.

To apply for an invitation, contact us before March at the

parish office, 570-265-2113 or [email protected].

First Annual Catholic Men’s Conference

for the Diocese of Scranton to be held on April 25th, 2015 at

King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Further information re-

garding specific details of the event will be available as the

date approaches. Mark the date for next Spring.

The event will feature two nationally known speak-

ers: Father Larry Richards, author of “Be A Man” and Da-

mon Owens of the Theology of the Body Institute. There will

be opportunities for Eucharistic Adoration, the celebration of

the Sacrament of Reconciliation as well as devotional pray-

ers. Additionally, exhibitors will be present with a full array

of Catholic books and publications as well as CDs and minis-

try opportunities.

More information concerning the men’s Convocation

will be in future bulletins.

Summer Mission Experience for High School Juniors

A faith-based mission journey for students in their Junior

year of any high school is planned for July 6-18, 2015 in

northern Mississippi, and for teachers interested in being

chaperones. Applications are due before Jan. 26, 2015; a

copy is posted on the church bulletin board, or contact the

parish office or Fr. Ed for more details, 570-265-2113.

Church Contribution Records

A parish contribution record will be sent to anyone who

requests one this year for your tax records. Contact the

office by phone 570-265-2113 or email [email protected].

If you wish to make any additional contribution to

be credited to 2014, we should have it by next weekend,

January 12.

The best way to receive credit for your weekly

gifts is with the envelope system; contact us if you need a

set for the coming year. You may also enroll in an auto-

matic monthly deduction as a regular and uninterrupted

offering of a specific amount to the church, which is help-

ful to many busy people, especially for those who are

away for a long period as are our “snow bird” parishion-

ers. Contact the office for details.

Happy New Year !

Very often at this time of year we reflect upon ac-

tivities and events that have occurred in our lives in the

past year and look forward with anticipation and hope for

the year ahead. Let us take a moment to thank God for his

presence in our lives and ask him to encourage us to re-

spond in a full and generous manner to his love and care

for us. We pray for those who have died this past year,

especially members of our family, for them and for their

families; we pray for peace and justice to be realized in

many parts of the world including here in the United

States; and we pray for our hearts to be open to Christ’s

message to us in the coming year.

Happy New Year! Fr. Ed

Help for Hurting Marriages

If you are considering separation or divorce, if there is

little meaningful communication, then the Retrouvaille

program can help. This program helps couples rediscover

a more loving relationship and helps put the pieces back

together. The next local program will be Feb. 27-Mar. 1,

2015 in Clarks Summit. Registration is necessary but all

calls are confidential; cost is by donation. Call 1-800-470

-2230 or visit http://www.retrouvaille.org/ for more infor-

mation.

T.A.C.O. Food Pantry

“Thanks you for the cash donations and for the multiple

gifts of food from your parishioners all year long, which

makes a difference in our ability to keep up with the in-

creasing demand for food assistance. Through November,

the pantry served a total of 2,875 families, totaling 6,730

individuals.” ~Directors, Towanda Area Christian Out-

reach Food Pantry.

There is a box at the church entrance for your donations

of un-expired, food items and supplies for the Pantry.
