TIME

The holidays are well behind us; the year stretches out ahead. And what sort of year will it be? To judge by the words of Jesus in today’s Gos-pel, it will be “a year acceptable to the Lord.” And Jesus surely didn’t mean only the next three hundred sixty-five days facing his listeners at that me.

When Jesus announced the “arrival” of God’s favor, it was a message for all me, for every year. Similarly, we read today in Nehemiah how the people gathered with solemnity to hear God’s word as though for the first me. They listened, and then fell to the ground and wept. But the prophet said, “Today is holy . . . do not be sad, and do not weep.” The “year acceptable to the Lord” is this year. The day that is “holy” is this day. The me to listen is now. What sort of year will you have? What sort of day? God’s help is always here. What you do with each day can be holy and acceptable to the Lord if you but listen to and act on God’s word. Los ingresos de esta colecta se u lizarán pa-ra apoyar los programas pastorales para las iglesias en América La na y el Caribe, Europa Central y Oriental y África. Los proyectos en América La na y el Caribe inclu-yen el trabajo de evangelización, formación de laicos, religiosos y seminaristas, así como el ministerio de jóve-nes y la catequesis. Los proyectos en el Este y Centro de Europa incluyen la capacitación de seminaristas y líderes laicos, el apoyo a programas de servicios sociales, así co-mo la construcción y renovación de iglesias, y la evangeli-zación a través de los medios católicos. Diocesan Collec on - Churches in Need January 27, 2019

This weekend of January 27th, we will have our Diocesan Collec on for Churches In Need. The revenue from this collec on will be used to support pastoral programs for the Churches in La n America and the Caribbean, Central & Eastern Europe, and Africa. Projects in La n America & Caribbean include the work of evangeliza on, forma on of laity, religious and seminarians, as well as youth minis-try and catechesis. Projects in Central & Eastern Europe include training seminarians and lay leaders, suppor ng social service programs as well as church construc on and renova on, and evangeliza on through Catholic me-dia. Projects in Africa include outreach programs, schools, evangeliza on, and educa on of clergy and lay ministers. Please be generous . Thank you.

EL TIEMPO

Los días de fiesta ya pasa-ron, el año se nos viene encima. ¿Y qué clase de año será? De acuerdo con las palabras de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy, será “el año de la gracia del Señor”. Y Jesús con seguridad no se refería solamente a los próximos trescientos sesenta y cinco días cuando hablaba a la gente en ese empo.

El anuncio de la “llegada” de la gracia de Dios lo hizo Jesús para todos los empos, para cada año. De manera similar, leemos hoy en Nehemías cómo la gente se reunía con solemnidad a escuchar la Palabra de Dios como si fuera la primera vez. Escuchaban y luego se postraban con el rostro en la erra y lloraban. Pero el profeta decía: “Este día está dedicado al Señor… no estén tristes”. El “año de la gracia del Señor” es este año. El día “dedicado al Señor” es hoy. El empo de escuchar es ahora. ¿Qué clase de año tendrás? ¿Qué clase de día? La ayuda de Dios siempre está aquí. Lo que haces cada día será santo y aceptable al Señor solamente si escuchas y prac cas la palabra de Dios. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co
