STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT:
“Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9
Jesus assures us that if we ask Him, God will take care of what we need. The problem is that in our culture we often confuse what we really need with what we simply want. Many people need very little. However, we usually want so much more. A good steward only asks God for what he needs.

Father Bob’s Corner . Dear Friends,
“Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come….
-Luke 11:2
Last week I mentioned in the homily at most of the Masses that we can imitate Mary by listening to the Lord in prayer. It takes a lot of discipline to listen to the Lord, and finally to think we hear God speaking to us. I still think it would be a good idea for us to work up to 20 minutes of listening prayer a day. Not that the listening has to be done in a vacuum; that would not work.
Father Ronald Rolheiser mentions in his book Prayer: Our Deepest Longing (Franciscan Media, ©2013) that “prayer is easy only for beginners and for those who are already saints.”(p. 45).
The Lord’s Prayer is one that most of us learned in our very early stages of beginning to pray. Taking the time to pray just a word or two at a time, and to listen in silence, is a good way to enter into deeper prayer. Perseverance is needed for most of us who are between being beginners and saints. Persevering in silent prayer will develop into something beautiful if we persevere. In our non-silent prayers we can ask for the grace to persevere, and learn how to pray silent prayer.
I am praying for God to bless you as you pray…...
We get some more examples for mercy from 56 Ways to Be Merciful During the Jubilee Year of Mercy:
52) With a few other people at your church, plan a party and invite all those from “the highways and byways” to come. 53) If someone you know seems to lack faith, share some of yours — tell him or her how Christ has changed your life. 54) Pay the parking or toll fee for the person behind you. 55) Give the much-maligned Pope Benedict XVI a fair reading sometime. You’ll be surprised. 56) Pray every day for the souls in purgatory. Pray for your dead.
As a final suggestion, the editor suggests reading Pope Saint John Paull II’s document Dives in Misericordia (Rich in Mercy) which is available online in English at http://w2.vatican.va/content/john-paul-ii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_jp-ii_enc_30111980_dives-in-misericordia.html.

Make sure that God is part of your vacation plans. Search the web or call our office ahead of time to find a vacation church to attend. Be sure to call the church ahead of time, to confirm times for confessions and Mass. Enjoy the Summer.
Dear Jesus, make us merciful like the Father.
With love and prayers,
Father Bob Edwards
Encountering Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration
“The Eucharist had so powerful an attraction for the Blessed Virgin, that she
could not live away from It. She lived in It and by It. She passed her days and her nights at the feet of her Divine Son….Her
love for her hidden God shone in her countenance and communicated its ardor to all
about her. “O Mary! Teach us the life of adoration!.......”
-St. Peter Julian Eymard

Diocesan & Local Events – July 24, 2016
KEEP IT SIMPLE I’m so good at confounding and complicating my life, so please, Lord, help me keep it simple…. I’m an expert when it comes to adding fear to all my worries, so, help me keep it simple… I’m an ace at mistrusting all the choices that I make, so help me Lord, help me keep it simple… I’m a champ at assuming things will probably get worse, so please, help me keep it simple….
I’m proficient in the art of blowing things out of proportion, so help me, Lord, to really keep it simple… I’m a pro at obscuring what’s so clearly plain to see, oh, help me keep it simple…
Help me see things as they are, Lord: Unravel all my scrambled thoughts, resolve the doubts that numb my mind, relieve me of my overthinking, help me trust what my heart knows ,and to follow where it leads.
Help me keep it simple, Lord.
