(One of the following forms of the penitential act is used:)

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (striking breast) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. “May God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.” Amen.

“Have mercy on us, O Lord.” For we have sinned against you. Show us, O Lord, your mercy.” And grant us your salvation. “May God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.” Amen. “Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy. “Christ, have mercy,” Christ, have mercy. “Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy.

“Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy. “Christ, have mercy,” Christ, have mercy. “Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy. “May God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.” Amen.

Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace to people of goodwill.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, Amen.

Music : Owen Alstott, (C) 1977, 1990 OCP.

For your sake I bear insult, and shame covers my face. I have become an outcast to my brothers, a stranger to my children, Because zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me. I pray to you, O LORD, for the time of your favor, O God! In your great kindness answer me with your constant help. Answer me, O LORD, for bounteous is your kindness; in your great mercy turn toward me. “See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, may your hearts revive! For the LORD hears the poor, and his own who are in bonds he spurns not. Let the heavens and the earth praise him, the seas and whatever moves in them!’‘

1st Reading - Jeremiah 20:10-13

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah

Jeremiah said: "I hear the whisperings of many: 'Terror on every side! Denounce! let us denounce him!' All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. 'Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.' But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph. In their failure they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion. O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause. Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked!"

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Responsorial—Psalm 69:8-10, 14, 17, 33-35

Page 4: Saint Michael Catholic Church€¦ · Ms. Yvonne Saunders ... through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for ... As you gather

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

2nd Reading - Romans 5:12-15

A Reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans

Brothers and sisters: Through one man sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all men, inasmuch as all sinned—for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world, though sin is not accounted when there is no law. But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin after the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who is the type of the one who was to come. But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

The Spirit of truth will testify to me, says the Lord; and you also will testify.

Gospel - Matthew 10:26-33

The Lord be with you. And with your Spirit.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to the Twelve: "Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground with-out your Father's knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father."

Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven (bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

Presentation & Preparation of the Gifts

Apostle’s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, (bow) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the Tabernacle, you may be seated or kneel for a time of quiet prayer.

Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle, be our protection

against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him,

we humbly pray; and do thou,

O Prince of the heavenly host,

by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits

who prowl about the world seeking the

ruin of souls. Amen.

June 21st, 2020—12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Greetings friends in Christ: Our country and world are immersed in an overwhelming deluge of despair and loss of direction. Throughout history we look to the perseverance of the Church to be our guide and strength. A Church that must admit every day our sinfulness and need for our Creator to bring us back to our core- Being in Communion with the Holy Trinity- centered on the Truth of what it means to be a child of God, made in His Image and Likeness, called to be a people of Mission in living and spreading the Good News. To respect Life from Conception to natural death. We are humbled as we have seen overwhelming generosity from so many benefactors to beautify our campus, and the outpouring of love by all who contributed to Catholic Charities in helping St Michael to surpass the goal established by the Diocese of Cleveland. I have continued hearing confessions on Saturday before Mass. There is enough space in the confessional to be safe. If you would rather go outside, please let me know. Mass attendance has been increasing, with a gentle reminder that the Dispensation to attend weekly Mass is still in effect. Your safety and comfort level comes first. Starting in July I have asked Sue to send out a request for the youth servers and Eucharistic Ministers to begin helping, with all safety and diocesan guidelines being followed. Additionally, since we are still unable to gather for Donut Sunday, we are looking at handing out treats outside for the first Sunday in July. Our principal, Ms. Saunders, is on numerous task forces with the Diocese working on strategies to open our schools in the fall, following all guidelines from the State and CDC. It is a monumental task and we give thanks for her perseverance and energy during these unprecedented times. Thank you for all your efforts friends in being Christ for others. St Teresa of Calcutta: Pray for us Our Lady of Fatima: Pray for us

Dr Scott Hahn: Our commitment to Christ will be put to the test. We will hear whispered warnings and denunciations, as Jeremiah does in today’s First Reading. Even so-called friends will try to trap and trip us up. For His sake we will bear insults and be made outcasts—even in our own homes, we hear in today’s Psalm. As Jeremiah tells us, we must expect that God will challenge our faith in Him, and probe our minds and hearts, to test the depths of our love. “Do not be afraid,” Jesus assures us three times in today’s Gospel. Though He may permit us to suffer for our faith, our Father will never forget or abandon us. As Jesus assures us today, everything unfolds in His Providence, under His watchful gaze—even the falling of the tiniest sparrow to the ground. Each one of us is precious to Him. Steadfast in this faith, we must resist the tactics of Satan. He is the enemy who seeks the ruin of our soul in Gehenna, or hell. We are to seek God, as the Psalmist says. Zeal for the Lord’s house, for the heavenly kingdom of the Father, should consume us, as it consumed Jesus (see Jn 2:17). As Jesus bore the insults of those who blasphemed God, so should we (see Rm 15:3). By the gracious gift of himself, Jesus bore the transgressions of the world, Paul tells us in today’s Epistle. In rising from the dead, He has shown us that God rescues the life of the poor, that He does not spurn His own when they are in distress. In His great mercy, He will turn toward us, as well. He will

deliver us from the power of the wicked. That is why we proclaim His name from the housetops, as Jesus tells us. That is why we sing praise and offer thanksgiving in every Eucharist. We are confident in Jesus’ promise—that we who declare our faith in Him before others will be remembered before our heavenly Father.

Please Remember in Your Prayers Our Sick Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need.

A Prayer for our Military:

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your

heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which

beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

PFC Joshua Strenk, National Guard 1LT Zak Zubic, Marine Corps

Our goal is to provide prayer support and recognition for the men and women of the St Michael community who are serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces.

If you have a family member or close friend serving on active duty who could use our community’s prayer support for their health, well being and safe return,

call the church office so we can add their name: Please provide their rank and which

branch of the service they are in.

Dear friends in Christ:

As you gather for meals please pray the following, seeking God’s Light and Peace through our Lord

and Savior, Christ the Lord I suggest that we all remember to drop a card and

call all our friends who are alone and afraid. We gather our strength through the Divine Physician.

Prayer before meals:

Loving Father, As we gather at our table to give thanks

and honor to You, We remember Your grace and open our hearts to Your compassion.

We are in a pandemic and our hearts are restless. The future which lies ahead is uncertain and anxiety producing.

We place ourselves in Your care, entrusting our lives to You. Bless our family,

our parish, our nation, and our world. Give us comfort and strength.

Help us to see beyond this challenge and find comfort in Your guidance.

Jesus, we place our trust in You. St Michael the Archangel- Pray for us!

Amen.

SVDP NEWS

Thank you to all of you who have sent in contributions to us in the past months.

Your financial support is allowing us to meet our obligations to the Food Pantries not only at our own parish, but also to our sister parish - St Michael on Scranton Road, and to Holy Name.

We do have a request for our own pantry.

We understand that not all parishioners are able to provide financial support, but we are asking if you can please bring in nonperishable food items with you when you attend Mass

or just drop in at the Church during the week when the Church is open for silent prayer.

Thank you on behalf of all that we serve. May you continue to stay well.
