This maybe a little late, but: Thank you all
for the Christmas gifts! I am grateful for your
goodness to me during my first 6 months
here!
What is your Identity?
I get to do the bulletins again! And in the
process of thinking about what to write I
came up with ‘inner healing prayer’ as a
topic. Unbound ministry is one form of it.
There are many other blueprints on how to
go about the process of healing in, with, and
through the name of Jesus. This type of inner
healing prayer allows one to move into a
place of freedom as a beloved son or
daughter of God. Why do we need healing?
Simply put, we live in a fallen world with
fallen wills and darkened intellects. With
those things being reality, wounds are most
likely going to happen. A wound is a place in
us that love was supposed to be given, but
wasn’t. The healing takes place by claiming,
in that moment, God’s love for me as His
Beloved, with all the dignity I am owed.
Now, that might seem prideful to say, ‘I am
owed’ but Jesus died for us to have the
ability to receive our identity in His Image
and Likeness. The “image” we still have, but
the fallen-ness doesn’t help being in His
Likeness. God is Love! If we loved all the
time in a self-sacrificial way, wounds
wouldn’t happen, and most sadly we
wouldn’t need Jesus. We definitely need
Jesus Christ Crucified in order to live the life
we are called to in God. The identity shift
that happens through this prayer style is ‘who
am I in light of who God is’, not who the
world says that I am, not who friends and
family say that I am, not what my wounds
and pain say that I am, not what the Accuser
(sin) says that I am, not what my own
subjective experience says that I am. The
identity as a beloved daughter of God or
beloved son of God is the truth once we are
baptized. Yes, we are still sinners, but God
gave us His Church and the sacraments so
that grace can continually flood our hearts to
become more like His. If my identity is in
anything other than God, it shifts on a daily
basis. Once my identity is in God it’s there
eternally. Our reward will be great in
heaven!! This is a journey the Lord has put
us on, and we can choose to humbly and
fully submit ourselves to the healing rays and
love God has for each one of us! Pray with
Psalm 139, Isaiah 43:1-7, and Isaiah 62:1-5.
Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Brian Mulligan

Physician Assisted Suicide myth: People don’t want to be
burdens. We should let them go before that point.
Truth: Human beings are not burdens. They can only be
considered as burdens if we define the human being by his or
her abilities, or lack thereof. Circumstances may be
burdensome, but people are not. Often, when people say they
don’t want to be a burden, they are scared, depressed, and want
to hear back “You are not a burden.” Offering them PAS just
affirms a lie spoken in a challenged mental state.
Catholic compassion: Human beings are never burdens, yet
we are called to “bear one another’s burdens.” (Galatians 6:2)
We will all face dying someday, and as part of the human
family, we should help one another face and live through this
process. Dying can come with heavy realities, and perhaps we
can call those challenges burdens. But when we bear them
together, love wins. The person is bigger than the disease, and
never a burden. Let’s remind each other of that in word and
deed, and teach our children how to love.
The Light is On Southern Minnesota: The Light is On is our
diocese's initiative to reach out to those with anxiety about
confession, and encouraging them God's mercy is there,
waiting, and will transform your life. If you would like to
receive inspirational emails about the mercy of God this holy
season, please visit www.thelightisonSouthernMN.org . Please
consider looking at the resources yourself and sharing this
website widely: read local witness stories, how-to tips, and
encouragement. The Light is On weekend is March 20-22.
Looking for some quiet time to pray for our priests? Please
consider joining our St. Mary’s/St. Peter and Paul Seven Sisters
groups that are growing within our parishes. The commitment is
one Holy Hour a week, you and Jesus. You pick the time, and you
pick the day. We are also looking for substitutes when another
sister needs someone to fill in for her hour. Please contact Lola
Baxter at ([email protected]) or 525-4053 for more
information. Brochures and booklets are available from Lola, and
you can check us out online at
http://www.sevensistersapostolate.org/ . The Seven Sisters
Apostolate started in St. Paul, MN in 2011 with 7 groups of 7
women praying for their pastors. As of this year, the Apostolate
has grown to almost 1400 groups all over the world, women
praying for their priests, retired priests, and bishops. Won’t you
join us? The rewards will be eternal.
