ST. MARK PARISH THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD BURLINGTON, VT
Dear Parishioners,
During this time of pandemic we have all faced new challenges and uncertainties. Necessary
restrictions and changes to our lifestyle have been implemented to keep us and the community
safe and healthy. For a couple months now many of our regular activities have been suspended,
postponed, or cancelled, and we are still uncertain as to when and how we might be able to re-
sume them. With this said, we have come through much together and I have been inspired by
the support offered by so many. In reaching out by phone to you, I have heard many encourag-
ing stories about family members helping out their more at risk parents and grandparents, neighbors checking in
on each other, and people using their extra time to make masks and gather food to help those most vulnerable. Je-
sus says in the Gospel of Matthew from Ascension Thursday, “I am with you always, even to the end of the
world”. The selfless actions of many reflect to the world this presence of Christ—He dwells with us, within us
and inspires us to love one another. Thank you for your examples of love and commitment to each other.
We are now approaching the end of the Easter Season, which will conclude on Pentecost Sunday next weekend.
As we see the restrictions lifted by our governor, Bishop Coyne is working with a special group at the diocese to
determine a time when soon we will open our Churches once again to public mass. There will be special protocols
put in place to keep people safe, and more details will be provided in next week’s bulletin regarding the timing
and guidance of what we will need to follow. In the meantime we will continue to live stream the mass from St.
Mark and post it on the website so that you can join in from home.
Lastly, as many of you have noticed from the masses that we have live streamed in the Church, we continue to
work toward the completion of the promised renovations of the Church interior and exterior. The new chandelier
lights have arrived and are being installed, a small section of the new flooring has been installed around the sanc-
tuary space, and the organ has been moved to allow for the Tabernacle relocation. The exterior work on the steps
and walkways will begin on June 1st. Please save the date of June 6th for a special live streamed announcement
from St. Mark Church to reveal the “new look” and relocation of the Tabernacle. Thank you all for your support.
Your generosity of service, and sharing your time, talents and treasures are truly fulfilling our mission, “Make Je-
sus the Heart of our Church”. The exact time of this event will be given in next week’s bulletin and announced on
the website. Stay tuned! ~ Father Dallas

VOCATION CORNER
Is God Calling You to be a Priest?
Signs you might be called to be a Priest:
• Have you ever, even as a passing thought, considered
the priesthood?
• Has someone ever come up to you and said something
like “You’d make a great priest!” or “Have you ever
considered becoming a priest?” If so, the Holy Spirit
may be at work through them to get your attention.
• Do you like to dress in black? (just kidding..but who
knows?)
• Do you ever feel like you’re called to do more, or par-
ticipate more deeply in the faith?
• Have you found a lack of satisfaction in achieving the
things you thought would fulfill you?
If you answered Yes to any of these, prayerfully discern if
God may be calling You? - Rhonda Gruenewald, Vocation
Ministry: Hundredfold [reprinted with permission]
Pray for our seminarians
With the disruptions caused by the pandemic, this semester
has been even more challenging than usual for our semi-
narians. Please keep them in your prayers. A sample prayer
is provided below:
Gracious God, bless our seminarians, may the Holy Spirit
inspire and give them the courage and enthusiasm for their
vocation. Guide them to become prayerful and holy priests,
men with hearts like our Lord, prepared to serve the
Church and give their lives for Christ. We ask this through
Christ Our Lord. Amen

MEN’S FAITH FORMATION
The Abba Prayer and Challenge
The Abba Prayer for Men presents a Catholic vision
of masculinity and challenges men to realize their
identity as beloved sons of the Father (Abba) and
grow in love of God and others. “Take the Abba Chal-
lenge: 33 Days of text reminders and challenges to
build a daily habit of praying The Abba Prayer for
Men, to form your identity as a beloved son of our
Abba, and to know and to live your spiritual father-
hood as ordinary heroes.”
To access the Abba prayer and learn more about the
challenge, visit abbachallenge.com and watch the
short video, or go to the St. Mark Parish website and
then go to Parish Life and Adult Formation.
WOMEN’S FAITH FORMATION - Subverted by Sue Allen Browder (ebook)
Contraception and abortion were not originally part of the 1960s women’s movement. How did the women’s
movement, which fought for equal opportunity for women in education and the workplace, and the sexual revolu-
tion, which reduced women to ambitious sex objects, become so united?
In Subverted, Sue Ellen Browder documents for the first time how it all happened, in her own life, and in the life
of an entire country. Trained at the University of Missouri School of Journalism to be an investigative journalist,
Browder unwittingly betrayed her true calling and became a propagandist for sexual liberation. As a long-time
freelance writer for Cosmopolitan magazine, she wrote pieces meant to soft-sell unmarried sex, contraception, and
abortion as the single woman’s path to personal fulfillment. She did not realize until much later that propagandists
higher and cleverer than herself were influencing her thinking and her personal choices as they subverted the
women’s movement.
The thirst for truth, integrity, and justice for women that led Browder into journalism in the first place eventually
led her to find forgiveness and freedom in the place she least expected to find them. Her in-depth research, her
probing analysis, and her honest self-reflection set the record straight and illumine a way forward for others who
have suffered from the unholy alliance between the women’s movement and the sexual revolution.
Go to watch.formed.org/subverted-by-sue-allen-browder or go to the St. Mark Parish website and then to Parish
Life and Adult Formation to access this and many other women’s formation resources.

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus,
I believe that You
are truly present in the Most Holy
Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You
as if You were already there and unite myself wholly
to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
