Today’s Gospel Reflection: John 6:1-15 WEEKLY MIRACLE This week marks the beginning of a kind of “liturgical detour.” We have been listening to Saint Mark’s Gospel during this liturgical year (Year B). Today we begin to hear a long section from John’s Gospel, starting with the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. This miracle story is a prelude to the Lord’s state-ments that we will begin hearing in a few weeks, in which Jesus refers to himself as the “bread of life.” Each week we witness a miracle at Mass. We do not see a multiplication of loaves before us. What our eyes of faith allow us to see is the miracle of the transformation of common elements—bread and wine—into the Lord’s Body and Blood. Once we have received the Lord, the multiplication begins, for in the Eucharist we are strengthened to multiply our efforts to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, and bring comfort to the despairing. Dear Parishioners and Friends, In a recent interview with media, a former Irish President has claimed that early Baptism is a violation of their human rights. Mary McAleese, Ireland’s President from 1997 to 2011, said that by baptizing children

before they have reached the age of reason, the Church is creat-ing “infant conscripts who are held to lifelong obligations of obedience.” “You can’t impose, really, obligations on people who are only two weeks old and you can’t say to them at seven or eight or 14 or 19 ‘here is what you contracted, here is what you signed up to’ because the truth is they didn’t.” “But you and I know, we live now in times where we have the right to freedom of conscience, freedom of belief, freedom of opinion, freedom of religion and freedom to change religion.” McAleese added, “What the Church has failed to do is to recognize that there has to be a point at which our young people, as adults who have been baptized into the Church and raised in the faith, have the chance to say, ‘I validate this’ or ‘I repudiate this.’”

If all parents follow the perspective of the former Irish President, they wouldn’t have to send their children to grade school, let alone choose best school for them. How many chil-dren would get up each morning and say, “Mom and Dad, I want to go to school today?” Parents usually have hard time to wake their children each morning. They also use disciplines to tell their children to put away games to do homework. Isn’t that a violation of their human rights?

McAleese asked the Church to give the right for young people as adults to say, “I validate this” or “I repudiate this.” She got it. Probably she doesn’t see it, but it happens every day. There are many Catholics who validate their faith because they have personal experience with Jesus. There are also many oth-ers who repudiate their virtue of baptism when they do not practice the faith. They walk away from the Church. They don’t walk always as children of the light.

While McAleese raises the question about the right of children in choosing faith, she may undermine the responsibil-ity of parents, godparents, and the community of faith in raising our children to grow in faith. In the Rite of Infant Baptism, the priest invites the parents and godparents to accept the responsi-bility of training their child in the practice of the faith, make the profession of faith in which this child is about to be baptized, and receive “the light of Christ,” which is “entrusted to them to be kept burning brightly.”

Our children do have a right: the right to become God’s children, get to know Jesus, follow the Spirit, and grow in Faith – Hope – Charity. Let us not deny them this right and let us begin with Baptism.

Fr. Pedro Tejeda’s Biography Fr. Pedro Tejeda was born on June 29, 1950, and was baptized in the Assumption of Mary Church in the city of Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, Mexico. He is the youngest of a family with ten children. He completed his education at the Abasolo Elementary School, Felipe

Galindo and Chávez Middle School and Fray Pedro de Gante High School in his hometown. He obtained a degree in Philoso-phy and Theology at the Diocesan Seminary of San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico. On May 5, 1984, he was ordained a priest in the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico. He worked in the Social Pastoral Care and spent five years at the head of the Pastoral of Migrants in his Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos. He has collaborated in the Diocese of Tenanc-ingo, State of Mexico and in the Archdiocese of Oaxaca, Mex-ico. He came to the United States on June 30 of this year.

S pending time in prayer on the First Friday of the month is a beautiful way for us as individuals, as

families, and as a community of faith to pause and reflect on our call to discipleship in Christ. Our parish has exposition of the Blessed Sacrament through-out the day on First Fridays. Our Church teaches that Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament flows from the

Eucharistic liturgy and leads us back to the liturgy. We have the op-portunity through prayer before the Blessed Sacrament to grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus Christ and with each other. We have the opportunity to become better disciples.

XVII DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO - 29 DE JULIO, 2018 Reflexión al Evangelio de hoy: Juan 6,1-15 MILAGRO SEMANAL Esta semana señala el comienzo de una especie de “desvío litúrgico”. Hemos estado escuchando el Evangelio según san Marcos durante este año litúrgico (Ciclo B). Hoy comenzamos a escuchar una larga sec-ción del Evangelio según san Juan que empieza con el milagro de la multiplicación de los panes y peces. Este milagro es un preludio de las declaraciones del Señor, que comenzaremos a escuchar en algunas semanas, en las que Jesús se llama a sí mismo el “Pan de Vida”. Cada semana somos testigos de un milagro en la Misa. No vemos la multiplicación de panes. Lo que vemos con los ojos de la fe es el milagro de la transformación de ele-mentos comunes, pan y vino, en el Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor. Una vez que hemos recibido al Señor, co-mienza la multiplicación, porque en la Eucaristía se nos fortalece para multiplicar nuestros esfuerzos por alimen-tar a los pobres, darles refugio a los que no tienen hogar y brindarles consuelo a los afligidos. Biografía del Padre Pedro Tejeda

El Padre Pedro Tejeda nació el 29 de junio de 1950 y fue bautizado en la Parroquia de la Asunción de María en la ciudad de Jalos-totitlán, Jalisco, México. El es el más joven de una familia con diez hijos. La educación básica la realizó en el Colegio Abasolo en su pueblo natal. Cursó la secundaria en el

Colegio Felipe Galindo y Chávez y la preparatoria en el Cole-gio Fray Pedro de Gante. Obtuvo una licenciatura de Filosofía y Teología en el Seminario Diocesano de San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México. El 5 de mayo de 1984 fue ordenado sacerdote en la Diócesis de San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, México. Tra-bajó en la Pastoral Social y estuvo cinco años al frente de la Pastoral de Migrantes en su Diócesis de San Juan de los Lagos. Ha colaborado en la Diócesis de Tenancingo, Estado de México y en la Arquidiócesis de Oaxaca, México. Vino a los Estados Unidos el 30 de junio del presente año.

ENTRENAMIENTO PARA MONAGUILLOS

Domingo 29 de julio, 2018 Queridos feligreses y amigos: En una entrevista reciente con los me-dios, una ex presidenta irlandesa ha afirmado que el bautismo a temprana edad es una violación de sus derechos humanos. Mary McAleese, presidenta de Irlanda de 1997 a 2011, dijo que al bautizar a los

niños antes de que alcancen la edad de la razón, la Iglesia está crean-do “reclutas recién nacidos a los que se les obliga a cumplir su obliga-ción de obediencia de por vida”. “No se puede imponer, realmente, obligaciones a personas que tienen solo dos semanas de vida, y no se les puede decir a los 7 u 8, a los 14, a los 19 años: 'Esto es lo que usted contrató; esto es a lo que se inscribió’ porque la verdad es que no lo hicieron’”. “Pero tú y yo sabemos que ahora vivimos en tiempos donde tenemos el derecho a la libertad de conciencia, la libertad de creencias, la libertad de opinión, la libertad de religión y la libertad para cambiar la religión”. McAleese agrega: “Lo que la Iglesia no ha hecho es reconocer que tiene que haber un punto en el que nuestros jóvenes, como adultos que han sido bautizados en la Iglesia y criados en la fe, tengan la oportunidad de decir: 'Lo confirmo' o lo 'repudio’”. Si todos los padres siguieran la perspectiva de la ex presi-denta irlandesa, no tendrían que enviar a sus hijos a la escuela prima-ria, mucho menos elegir la mejor escuela para ellos. ¿Cuántos niños se levantarían cada mañana y dirían: “Mamá y Papá, quiero ir a la escuela hoy?” Los padres suelen tener dificultades para despertar a sus hijos cada mañana. También usan disciplinas para decirles a sus hijos que guarden los juegos para hacer la tarea. ¿No es eso una violación de sus derechos humanos? McAleese pidió a la Iglesia que conceda el derecho a los jóvenes como adultos a decir: “Lo confirmo” o “lo repudio”. Probable-mente ella no lo vea, pero sucede todos los días. Hay muchos católi-cos que validan su fe porque tienen experiencia personal con Jesús. También hay muchos otros que repudian su virtud del bautismo cuan-do no practican la fe. Se alejan de la Iglesia. No caminan siempre como niños de la luz. Si bien McAleese plantea la pregunta sobre el derecho de los niños a elegir la fe, puede estar socavando la responsabilidad de los padres, padrinos y la comunidad de fe de criar a nuestros hijos para que crezcan en la fe. En el Rito del Bautismo Infantil, el sacerdo-te invita a los padres y padrinos a aceptar la responsabilidad de entre-nar a sus hijos en la práctica de la fe, hacer la profesión de fe en la que este niño va a bautizarse y recibir “la Luz de Cristo”, que es “confiándosela a ellos para que se mantenga ardiendo brillantemente”. Nuestros hijos tienen un derecho: el derecho de convertirse en hijos de Dios, conocer a Jesús, seguir al Espíritu y crecer en Fe, Espe-ranza y Caridad. Trong một cuộc phỏng vấn với báo chí mới đây, bà cựu Tổng Thống Ái Nhĩ Lan đã đưa ra quan điểm rằng việc Rửa Tội trẻ em là vi phạm nhân quyền. Bà Mary McAleese, Tổng thống Ái Nhĩ Lan từ năm 1997 đên 2011, nói rằng qua việc rửa tội cho con cái trước khi chúng đến tuổi trưởng thành, Giáo Hội khiến cho trẻ nhỏ bị “dính vào những trách nhiệm mà họ phải tuân giữ suốt đời.” “Bạn không thể ép đặt, thật sự là vậy, những trách nhiệm này nọ lên trên những đứa bé 2 tuần tuổi và bạn không thể nói với chúng khi đến tuổi 7 hay 8 hoặc 14 hay 19 rằng ‘đây là điều con đã cam kết, đây là điều con đã gia nhập’ bởi vì sự thật chúng đâu có tự nguyện.” Bà nói thêm: “Nhưng bạn và tôi đều biết, chúng ta đang sống trong thời đại mà chúng ta có quyền tự do lương tâm, tự do bày tỏ quan điểm, tự do tín ngưỡng và tự do thay đổi tín ngưỡng.” “Điều mà Giáo Hội không nhìn ra đó là phải có lúc nào đó để những người trẻ, vốn đã được rửa tội lúc còn nhỏ và được nuôi nấng trong đức tin Công Giáo, thì khi đã trưởng thành, cũng sẽ có cơ hội nói rằng: ‘Tôi công nhận với việc rửa tội [cho tôi lúc trước]’ hoặc ‘tôi không công nhận việc rửa tội [cho tôi lúc trước].’” Nếu tất cả cha mẹ mà ai cũng có cùng quan điểm với bà cựu Tổng Thống Ái Nhĩ Lan, thì chắc chẳng ai thèm gởi con cái mình đi học trường đời, đừng nói chi là lựa chọn trường tốt nhất cho con. Thử hỏi có bao nhiêu đứa nhỏ thức dậy mỗi sáng và nói, ‘Ba Mẹ ơi, hôm nay con muốn đi học?” Làm gì mà không có những ngày cha mẹ phải vất vả lắm mới đánh thức nỗi con cái. Làm gì mà không có những ngày cha mẹ phải nói mạnh lắm mới bắt được con cái không được chơi game, để dành thời gian làm bài tập ở nhà. Bắt con đi học, bắt con làm bài, ngoài tự nguyện của chúng, có phải là vi phạm nhân quyền không? Bà Mc Aleese kêu gọi Giáo Hội hãy cho trẻ nhỏ quyền khi chúng lớn lên và nói: “Tôi chấp nhận” hay “Tôi khước từ”. Bà đâu có biết rằng có nhiều người trưởng thành đang làm vậy đó thôi, làm gì tới phiên Giáo Hội cho hay không. Chắc bà không thấy thôi, chứ tôi thấy xảy ra hàng ngày. Có nhiều người Công Giáo sống thực thụ với niềm tin của mình, nhìn ra hoa quả của Bí Tích Rửa Tội, vì họ có những trải nghiệm rất gần gũi với Chúa Giêsu. Nhưng rồi cũng có những người khước từ “sống” Bí Tích mà họ đã lãnh nhận khi họ không sống đạo cho phải, khi họ rời bỏ Giáo Hội bước đi trong lầm lạc, khi họ không bước đi như con cái của sự sáng. Trong khi bà McAleese nêu ra câu hỏi về quyền của trẻ em trong việc lựa chọn đức tin, thì bà quên đi trách nhiệm của cha mẹ, người đỡ đầu, và cộng đoàn đức tin trong việc nuôi nấng con cái để cho chúng lớn lên trong đức tin. Trong Nghi Thức Rửa Tội Trẻ Em, Cha chủ sự đã mời cha mẹ và người đỡ đầu hãy chấp nhận trách nhiệm giáo dục các em trong đức tin, tuyên xưng đức tin, mà chính trong Ðức Tin này mà các em được rửa tội, đồng thời cũng nhận lấy “ánh sáng Chúa Kitô”, “ánh sáng này được trao phó cho anh chị em chăm nom, tức là lo lắng cho những em được Chúa Kitô soi sáng, luôn luôn sống như con cái sự sáng và bền vững trong đức tin.”

Con cái của chúng ta có một cái quyền: đó là quyền làm con cái Thiên Chúa, nhận biết Chúa Giêsu, bước đi theo Thần Khí, và lớn lên trong Tin – Cậy – Mến. Chúng ta đừng tước cái quyền này của con cái và hãy bắt đầu với Bí Tích Rửa Tội. Trong bình an của Đức Kitô,

Bài đọc 1: 2V 4,42-44. Với 20 chiếc bánh, ngôn sứ Êlisê làm cho 100 người ăn no. Việc đó báo trước Chúa hóa bánh ra nhiều và Thánh Thể Chúa nuôi hồn xác loài người Bài đọc 2: Ep 4,1-6. Thánh Phaolô khuyên các tín hữu sống khiêm nhượng, hiền lành, thuận hòa, thương yêu nhau, để được hiệp nhất trong Chúa là Cha chung mọi người. Vì chỉ có một Chúa, một đức tin, một niềm hy vọng. Bài Tin Mừng: Ga 6,1-15. Chúa Giêsu dùng năm chiếc bánh và hai con cá của một em bé, hóa ra nhiều cho năm ngàn người ăn no. Chúa muốn chúng ta cộng tác với Người nuôi sống anh chị em chúng ta, và báo trước Chúa lập Bí Tích Thánh Thể nuôi linh hồn chúng ta.

Tiểu sử của Cha Pedro Tejeda Cha Pedro Tejeda sinh ngày 29 tháng 6 năm 1950, và được rửa tội tại nhà thờ Đức Mẹ Hồn Xác Lên Trời ở thành phố Jalostotitlán, tỉnh Jalisco, Mễ Tây Cơ. Cha là người con nhỏ nhất trong gia đình có mười người con. Cha đã học trường tiểu học Abasolo, và trường Felipe

Galindo và Chávez, và trường trung học Fray Pedro de Gante ở quê nhà. Cha nhận được bằng Triết Học và Thần Học tại Chủng viện thuộc giáo phận San Juan de los Lagos, tỉnh Jalisco, Mễ Tây Cơ. Cha thụ phong linh mục vào ngày 5 tháng 5 năm 1984, tại giáo phận San Juan de los Lagos, tỉnh Jalisco, Mễ Tây Cơ. Cha đã phục vụ cho văn phòng Mục Vụ Xã Hội và năm năm làm giám đốc văn phòng lo cho những người di dân trong địa phận San Juan de los Lagos.
