In June, Morgan, who is currently a senior at Roger Bacon, traveled with 11 other students and two teachers to spend eight days doing mission work in Negril, Jamaica. The group worked alongside former Roger Bacon principal Fr. Jim Bok who is now pastor at Mary Gate of Heaven Church in Negril. One of Morgan’s most favorite things to do while in Negril was to work with the school children. As you can see from the photos the children were excited to see Morgan every day. Another memorable highlight was helping in a soup kitchen and stopping to get live chickens that they had to kill and pluck so they could be served as part of the meal. Morgan enjoys doing volunteer work and on June 23 was the recipient of the Glenmary Knights of Columbus scholarship which recognizes students for doing service and having at least a B average. The scholarship will go towards the tuition for her senior year at Roger Bacon High School. Congratulations Morgan!

SUMMER MISSION TRIP TO NEGRIL, JAMAICA

Ask St. Margaret Mary parishioner Morgan Osterbrock what she did on her summer vacation and her answer will no doubt be an inspiring one. In June, Morgan, who is currently a senior at Roger Bacon, traveled with 11 other students and two teachers to spend eight days doing mission work in Negril, Jamaica. ST. MM’S WINTER WEATHER POLICY FOR WEEKDAY MASS/COMMUNION SERVICE

With the onset of winter weather and the potential for morning snow and ice, safe travel to weekday Mass for both the priests and the members of the congregation is a concern. In order to keep the community safe during severe winter weather, the WEEKDAY morning Mass or Communion Service will be canceled whenever classes for the Northwest School District are canceled. This is the district that Our Lady of Grace school uses to determine school closure.

TIPS FOR ATTENDING MASS DURING COLD & FLU SEASON

Some healthy reminders as the cold winter weather sets in: • Wash hands with soap and water before & after Mass and/or use hand sanitizer. • If you are sick, stay home. • If you are not feeling well, consider refrain-ing from drinking from the cup. • If you are not feeling well, consider refrain-ing from shaking hands at the Sign of Peace.

PARISH PICNIC 2016

Thank you to the Holy Name Society and Parish Council for their coordination of the annual 4th of July picnic at Stricker’s Grove. While a bit wet this year, the attendance was still strong and the event provided a great opportunity for fellowship, good food, games for all ages as well as the opportunity to enjoy the park rides!

THE GIVING TREE — A MUCH ANTICIPATED ANNUAL TRADITION FOR OUR PARISH

The Giving Tree is a welcomed sight each year, not only as a sign along with the first Sunday of Advent that heralds the approach of Christmas, but because it offers a fun and creative way for parish-ioners to contribute towards making Christmas brighter for those in the community who are in need. Organized by our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society, the tree will be on display in the Holy Family Room starting on the weekend of November 12/13 with tags indicating specific items to be purchased for the area families they minister to. Items should be returned by Sun., Dec 11, gift wrapped and with the tree tag attached.

our parish youthVACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2016 – A BARNYARD ROUNDUP!

We had an incredibly successful Vacation Bible School which took place over July 18, 19, & 20. The joint-parish event was hosted at Assumption but involved volunteers and participants from both the Assumption and St. Margaret Mary parish communities.

Twenty-eight children participated in the “down on the farm” themed “Barnyard Roundup” which focused on Psalm 23 about the “Good Shepherd”. Through songs, activities, crafts, learning and talking about Bible stories, the kids learned how God cares, provides, and leads them now and forever. Everyone had a great time and the chil-dren enthusiastically shared what they had learned at the end of VBS.

VBS would not have happened without the wonderful support and ministry of all of the vol-unteers—from Jr. High students to grandpar-ents—that helped make the three days memo-rable for the children of our parishes. The hard work was greatly ap-preciated. THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!!!
