NEEDS to be heard on the West Coast!

Mission: To change the perceptions of a society that thinks abortion is an an-

swer. Abortion does violence to women and to their children, both physically and

emotionally. We deserve better than

abortion.

We intend to establish a new West Coast tradition of celebrating life and we’re call-ing for solidarity among women and all

people of good will in affirming human life. Abortion harms women and men; it divides families and society. Women–and all peo-

ple–deserve better than abortion.

What is Ordinary Time?

The rhythm of the liturgical seasons re-flects the rhythm of life — with its cele-brations of anniversaries and its sea-sons of quiet growth and maturing. Ordinary Time, meaning ordered or numbered time, is celebrated in two segments: from the Monday following the Baptism of Our Lord up to Ash Wednesday; and from Pentecost Mon-day to the First Sunday of Advent. This makes it the largest season of the Liturgical Year.

In vestments usually green, the color of hope and growth, the Church counts the thirty-three or thirty-four Sundays of Ordinary Time, inviting her children to meditate upon the whole mystery of Christ – his life, miracles and teachings – in the light of his Resurrection.

Second Collection January 25-26, 2020

The annual national Collection for the Church in Latin America (CLA)

The 2020 campaign highlights the faith of Latin America and the many oppor-

tunities we have to share faith with them. We also recognize the tremen-dous benefit of having our

Latin American brothers and sisters in the Church and the

revitalization their fervor brings to the faith.

The Agnus Dei

The Agnus Dei was introduced in the Mass by Pope Sergius (687–701). This move may have been a defiant act against the Byzantine Empire (Constantinople), who ruled that Christ shall not be depicted as an animal, in this case, a lamb. The Agnus Dei, like the Credo, was one of the last things to be added to the Mass Ordinary. The fifth item in the Mass, Agnus Dei comes from John 1:29 and is often used during com-munion. Along with the Kyrie, Credo, Gloria, and Sanctus, this chant remains an integral part of the church service.

Saint Paul the Hermit

Also known as Paul the First Hermit and Paul of Thebes, an Egyptian hermit. Born in Lower The baid, Egypt, he was left an orphan at about the age of fifteen and hid during the persecution of the Church under Emperor Traj anus Decius. At the age of twenty

two he went to the desert to circumvent a planned effort by his brother in law to report him to authorities as a Christian and thereby gain control of his property. Paul soon found that the eremitical life was much to his personal taste, and so remained in a desert cave for the rest of his reportedly very long life.

His contemplative existence was disturbed by St. Anthony, who visited the aged Paul. Anthony also buried Paul, supposedly wrapping him in a cloak that had been given to Anthony by St. Ath-anasius. According to legend, two lions assisted Anthony in digging the grave. While there is lit-tle doubt that Paul lived, the only source for de-tails on his life are found in the Vita Pauli written by St. Jerome and preserved in both Latin and Greek versions.

The Agnus Dei Prayer

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the

world: grant us peace.

Pope at Mass: the little

prayer that moves God

“Lord, if you will, you can heal me;

if you will, you can forgive me; if

you will, you can help me. Lord, I

am a sinner, have mercy on me,

have compassion on me”.

A simple prayer that can be said

many times a day: “Lord, I, a sin-

ner, ask you: have mercy on me”.

Many times a day, inwardly, from

the heart, without saying

it out loud: “Lord, if you

will, you can; if you will,

you can. Have compas-

sion on me”. Repeat this.
