The Second Sunday in Ordinary Time January 15, 2017

Hello, Prior to Christmas I had in the bulletin that we were at 99% of our Beyond Sunday campaign goal of $610,000. Then later that week, before it was published but before it was out, we were actually at 99.97% of our goal. Then we past our goal. I would like to thank everyone who has participated by making donations, helping publicize and solicit for the campaign, and helping us support our parish and Catholic education throughout the Archdiocese. Meeting our goal helps the Archdiocese to achieve theirs and allows us to confidently go forward with the work needed in our parish. While I will still keep a few pledge cards around church for those who haven’t participated but might still consider it, I now only need to keep you informed about progress on how the money is coming back to the parish and how it is being put to work. The biggest project that has been started so far at St. Joseph’s is regarding the stone wall around the church building and some other pieces of stonework on our property. Some repairs were begun on that this Fall but the winter weather will have to go before it can be completed. We also have a contract on the roof for the rectory that will hopefully get started with the Spring. I know I have mentioned in the past that this school year Beyond Sunday awarded $1.8 million in scholarships to over 1,100 students of middle-income families attending 97 Catholic elementary schools and all 27 Catholic high schools. I wanted to be sure to mention that now because next month the applications will be accepted for the coming school year. If you desire information on how to apply for yourself or someone you know who will be sending a child to a Catholic Elementary School or High School this coming year you can ask me (or their pastor if they are from a different parish) or visit www.rcfstl.org/beyond-sunday/scholarships/ for additional information or www.ttef-stl.org to apply. While I am thanking people I would also like to thank everyone who helped decorate or clean the church, those participating in the Christmas pageant, those who participated in ministries of music, lectors, servers, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, or helped serve in any way at the church over the Christmas season that officially ended last Monday when we celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (very strange schedule because Christmas fell on a Sunday). Not only did you help all of us to celebrate Christmas but hopefully your participation helped deepen your celebration, I know it does for me.

Peace,

Fr. Nick

NEED YOUR HELP! The Altar Society is looking for 2 or 3 people to help launder and iron the linens used each day at Mass. We need volunteers to do the linens just one week per month. They only take about 30 minutes to iron – quick and easy! Recommended pick up is after mass on Saturday or Sunday and then delivery back to church on Monday or Tuesday. Please call Missy Fish at 314-956-0022 if you can help. Thanks.

Our January Bridge will be held at the Mid-County Library on Thursday, January 19, 6:00 p.m. If you can't arrive until 6:30 p.m., please come then.

Just a note to let you know the St Vincent de Paul food pantry supplies are getting low? We need:

Paper products – toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels Soap products – for clothing and dishes Food products – canned fruit, canned juice, cereal, peanut butter & jelly, canned soup, ready to eat meals in a can (like spaghetti, chili, beef stew) Personal products – toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorant, shampoo, hand soap

We sincerely thank you for your generosity.

Does your marriage need a tune up? Or even a major overhaul? Does your marriage need a tune up? Or even a major overhaul? Sometimes a marriage can run along fine and then things change. It may need your time and attention. Sometimes lines of communication break down and they need repair. Sometimes our focus moves away from our marriage and family and needs a little redirection. Sometimes a fair or average marriage is just not enough. Have you ever thought to yourself, "How can I make my marriage better?" If so, Retrouvaille can help. Retrouvaille is a marriage program for couples whose marriage has become off course. It begins with a weekend program beginning February 3, 2017, that can help get your relationship back on track. It is an effective program that has worked for thousands of couples and it can work for your marriage. For more information about the upcoming Retrouvaille Weekend program for couples, contact Theresa and Zulfi at 800-470-2230 visit our website: HelpOurMarriage.com

Annual Memorial Mass and Prayer Vigil Please join Archbishop Carlson and the St. Louis community for a special Mass on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis to commemorate 43 years since the legalization of abortion in our country and to pray for an end to abortion and increase respect for all human life. The offertory collection will benefit the LifeLine Coalition, a group of social service agencies whose financial and emotional support help more than 10,000 women in our community each year as they deal with the challenges of a crisis preg-nancy. At the end of Mass, we will have a Rosary Procession to Planned Parenthood. All are encouraged to join us in this peaceful witness. The Rosary Procession will return to the Cathedral where Benediction will be offered. For more information, contact the Respect Life Apostolate at [email protected] or 314-792-7555.
