Pastor’s Corner
This year’s liturgical cycle emphasizes Jesus’s sacrifice,
which we commemorate in the Eucharist. Just as Moses
sealed the Covenant between God and the Israelites with
the sacrifice of a lamb that spread its blood on the altar
and the people, so did Jesus, priest and victim, seal the
New Covenant with his blood poured out for us on the
altar of the cross, he, the lamb who takes away the sins of
the world. Today we celebrate this incomparable gift the
Lord gave by turning himself over for us and wanting to
remain among us forever as food and sustenance in the
Eucharist.
During the week prior to this celebration, parish groups
could explore this theme by reflecting on the Sunday
readings or on other New Testament texts that focus on
the Lord’s sacrifice in the Eucharist, such as the Letter to
the Hebrews and Saint Paul’s letters to the Corinthians.
Rev. Juan J. Sosa
