JESUS PRAYS Catechism of the Catholic Church Continues on Articles 2607– 2611

Jesus teaches us how to pray

“When Jesus prays he is already teaching us how to pray. His prayer to his Father is the theological path (the path of faith, hope, and charity) of our prayer to God. But the Gospel also gives us Jesus' explicit teaching on prayer. Like a wise teacher he takes hold of us where we are and leads us progressively toward the Father. Addressing the crowds following him, Jesus builds on what they already know of prayer from the Old Covenant and opens to them the newness of the coming Kingdom. Then he reveals this newness to them in parables. Finally, he will speak openly of the Father and the Holy Spirit to his dis-ciples who will be the teachers of prayer in his Church.

From the Sermon on the Mount onwards, Jesus insists on conversion of heart: reconciliation with one's brother before presenting an offering on the altar, love of enemies, and prayer for persecutors, prayer to the Father in secret, not heaping up empty phrases, prayerful forgiveness from the depths of the heart, purity of heart, and seeking the Kingdom before all else ( Cf. Mt 5:23-24, 44-45; 6:7, 14-15, 21, 25, 33). This filial conversion is entirely directed to the Father.

Once committed to conversion, the heart learns to pray in faith. Faith is a filial adherence to God beyond what we feel and understand. It is possible because the beloved Son gives us access to the Father. He can ask us to "seek" and to "knock," since he himself is the door and the way (Cf. Mt 7:7-11, 13-14).

Just as Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, so he teaches us filial boldness: "Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will (Mk 11:24)". Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt: "all things are possible to him who believes(Mk 9:23; cf. Mt 21:22)." Jesus is as saddened by the "lack of faith" of his own neighbors and the "little faith" of his own disciples (Cf. Mk 6:6; Mt 8:26) as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman (Cf. Mt 8:10; 15:28).

The prayer of faith consists not only in saying "Lord, Lord," but in disposing the heart to do the will of the Father ( Cf. Mt 7:21). Jesus calls his disciples to bring into their prayer this concern for cooperating with the divine plan (Cf. Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2; Jn 4:34).”

JESÚS ORA Catecismo de la Iglesia Catolico

Continúa en los Artículos 2607– 2611

Jesús enseña a orar

LOVE AND RESPECT OF THE EUCHARIST

1. For correct participation in the Mass: Please come on time, with proper attire and participate in the prayers. Proper attire means: to dress modestly, fully clothed by covering your shoulders and knees for women. Shorts, beach/gym attire are inappropriate in the Church.

2. Conditions to receive the Eucharist: Must be a practicing Catholic and without mortal sin. Must confess mortal sins be-fore receiving. Divorced who are single may receive. Those in Civil Marriage or cohabiting cannot receive until their mar-riage is blessed in the Church;

3. Holy Communion: When you receive the Sacred Host, please consume it immediately. Do not walk or play with it. To use the Eucharist for Santeria or other pagan rituals is one of the gravest sins, a sacrilege punished with ex-communication (Canon 1367). Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, there-fore we ought to show greatest respect and reverence to Him. Holy Communion is not a ritual but a Sacrament of the Jesus Christ.

4. Participation in weekly Mass and Adoration when possible are excellent practices for spiritual growth.

MARRIAGE PREPARATIONS FOR A MARRIAGE OR A MARRIAGE COVALIDATION

My dear Parishioners, Peace be with you. Regarding Marriage arrangements, we would like to inform you that the Archdiocese of Miami requires a minimum of six (6) month preparation prior to the wedding date. As a parish, we are bound to follow the Archdiocese norms. Therefore, before you make any other arrangements such as booking your reception, your honeymoon cruise or flights for your family members coming from abroad, you need to meet with the priest or the deacon first, in the Parish office, to make sure that your date is Ok on our calendar and that there are no other issues or impediments that could delay or jeopardize your wedding. The Sacrament of Matrimony is a very important matter and needs careful preparation; some related documents may take time to process. Six months preparation is a must. If you are not from this parish and wish to be married at St. John XXIII, you must make preparations in your own parish and have your pastor notify us in writing (which means certifying that your preparation has been done and that he grants you permission to marry here), then we can confirm your wedding date. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Father Ernest

Note: Marriage Convalidation means to have a Civil Marriage be blessed in the Church. If your Civil Marriage is not blessed in the Church, you cannot received Holy Communion (see above notation #2 on Love and Respect of the Eucharist ).

!No escusa, no excepción!
