Niedziela Bożego Miłosierdzia, mimo zamkniętego Sanktuarium, niech będzie głęboko przeżywana w naszych sercach. Starajmy się medytować postawę Ojca, który czeka nieustannie na nasze powroty, chcąc na nowo założyć nam „płaszcz”, symbolizujący godność dziecka Bożego. Pragniemy cieszyć się w naszym sercu, głębokim pokojem, który może dać sam Bóg bogaty w miłosierdzie. On też pochyla się nad nami, jak Samarytanin, kojąc nasze rany, opiekując się nami, prowadząc nas przez życie. Jezus pragnie, abyśmy Mu zaufali. Chce, aby stało się to naszą codzienną modlitwą, naszym zawierzeniem i powierzeniem się Jemu. Jan Paweł II patron naszego sanktuarium, głęboko się przejął zaleceniem Pana Jezusa. Orędzie Miłosierdzia Bożego zawsze było Janowi Pawłowi II bliskie i drogie, wpisując się w cały jego pontyfikat jako złota nić łaski. Przez świadectwo życia pokazywał, jak bardzo dzisiejszy świat potrzebuje Bożego Miłosierdzia! Na wszystkich kontynentach z głębin ludzkiego cierpienia zdaje się wznosić wołanie o miłosierdzie. Tam, gdzie panuje nienawiść i chęć odwetu, gdzie wojna przynosi ból i śmierć niewinnych, potrzeba łaski miłosierdzia, które koi ludzkie umysły serca, i rodzi pokój. Gdzie brak szacunku dla życia i godności człowieka, potrzeba miłosiernej miłości Boga, w której świetle odsłania się niewypowiedziana wartość każdego ludzkiego istnienia. Potrzeba miłosierdzia, aby wszelka niesprawiedliwość na świecie znalazła kres w blasku prawdy (Kraków Łagiewniki 2002). Za przykładem św. Jana Pawła II oddajmy nasze wszystkie cierpienia i niesprawiedliwości Bożemu Miłosierdziu, niech ten najwyższy przymiot Boży przemienia nasze serca.

May Divine Mercy Sunday, despite the closed Sanctuary, be meditated deeply in our hearts. Let us try to think about the attitude of the Father, who is
constantly waiting for our return. We want to enjoy in our heart a deep peace that God himself can give, rich in mercy. He also waits for our return, wanting to put on a new "coat" over us, like a Samaritan, soothing our wounds, caring for us, leading us through life.
Jesus wants us to trust Him. He wants this trust to become our daily prayer. John Paul II, patron of our sanctuary, was deeply moved by the Lord Jesus' recommendation. The Message of God's Mercy has always been close and dear to John Paul II, inscribing in his entire pontificate as a golden thread of grace. Through the testimony of life, he showed how much the world today needs God's Mercy!
On all continents, from the depths of human suffering, he seems to be calling for mercy. Where hatred and a desire to retaliate prevail, where war brings pain and death to the innocent, we need a grace of mercy that soothes human minds and creates peace.
Where there is no respect for human life and dignity, there is a need for God's merciful love, in which the unspeakable value of every human being is revealed. It takes mercy that all injustice in the world finds its end in the splendor of truth. (Kraków Łagiewniki 2002).
Following the example of Saint John Paul II let us give all our sufferings and injustices to God's Mercy, let this highest attribute of God change our hearts.

Divine Mercy Sunday a day of extraordinary worship of God in the mystery of His mercy, but also a time of His grace for all people. Magnitude of this holiday is measured by remarkable promises which Jesus associated with this holiday. Despite the closed churches, we can
still receive special favors of Divine Mercy Sunday, as promised by our Lord, through Saint Faustina. Even though churches are closed and you cannot go to Confession and receive Holy Communion,
you can receive these special graces this Sunday, April 19, Divine Mercy Sunday. On the JP2 Divine Mercy youtube Channel
on Divine Mercy Sunday, after the 12 o’clock Mass, in front of the Blessed Sacrament, let us unite our hearts before God and ask for an abundance of His favors for us, our families and the whole world.
Special devotion and prayers will help us praise God's Mercy and receive the promised favors.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY
On the Second Sunday of Easter of the Jubilee Year 2000, at the Mass for the canonization of St. Faustina Kowalska, Pope John Paul II proclaimed to the world that "from now on throughout the Church" this Sunday will be called "Divine Mercy Sunday."
Our Lord insisted that it be celebrated on a specific day - the Sunday after Easter! Our Lord revealed to St. Faustina His desire to literally flood us with His graces on that day. Just consider each of the promises and desires that He expressed about Mercy Sunday, which are recorded in the main passage of the Diary — passage 699 — about Mercy Sunday:
"On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon these souls who approach the Fount of My mercy [the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist]. The soul that will go to Confession [beforehand] and receive Holy Communion [on that day] shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. “Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity...tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near.” (965) Wake up people of the World, and repent of your sins, this just might be our last hope of salvation!"
“Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be acts of mercy ... I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to excuse or absolve yourself from it" (742)."And who knows anything about this feast? No one! Even those who should be proclaiming My mercy and teaching people about it often do not know about it themselves. That is why I want the image to be solemnly blessed on the First Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it." (Diary 341)
NIEDZIELA BOŻEGO
MIŁOSIERDZIA
Święto Miłosierdzia obchodzone jest w pierwszą niedzielę po Wielkanocy, czyli II Niedzielę Wielkanocną, zwaną obecnie Niedzielą Miłosierdzia Bożego. Na prośbę Episkopatu Polski Ojciec Święty Jan Paweł II w 1995 roku wprowadził to święto dla wszystkich diecezji w Polsce. W dniu
kanonizacji Siostry Faustyny 30 kwietnia 2000 roku Papież ogłosił to święto dla całego Kościoła. Inspiracją dla ustanowienia tego święta było pragnienie Jezusa, które przekazała Siostra Faustyna. Pan Jezus powiedział do niej:Pragnę, ażeby pierwsza niedziela po Wielkanocy była świętem Miłosierdzia (Dz. 299). Pragnę, aby święto Miłosierdzia, było ucieczką i schronieniem dla wszystkich dusz, a szczególnie dla biednych grzeszników. W dniu tym otwarte są wnętrzności miłosierdzia Mego, wylewam całe morze łask na dusze, które się zbliżą do źródła miłosierdzia Mojego. Która dusza przystąpi do spowiedzi i Komunii świętej, dostąpi zupełnego odpuszczenia win i kar.W dniu tym otwarte są wszystkie upusty Boże, przez które płyną łaski (Dz. 699).
W wielu objawieniach Pan Jezus określił nie tylko miejsce święta w kalendarzu liturgicznym Kościoła, ale także motyw i cel jego ustanowienia, sposób przygotowania i obchodzenia oraz wielkie obietnice. Największą z nich jest łaska „zupełnego odpuszczenia win i kar” związana z Komunią świętą przyjętą w tym dniu po dobrze odprawionej spowiedzi (bez przywiązania do najmniejszego grzechu), w duchu nabożeństwa do Miłosierdzia Bożego, czyli w postawie ufności wobec Boga i czynnej miłości bliźniego. Jest to – jak tłumaczy ks. prof. Ignacy Różycki – łaska większa od odpustu zupełnego. Ten polega bowiem tylko na darowaniu kar doczesnych należnych za popełnione grzechy, ale nie jest nigdy odpuszczeniem samychże win. Najszczególniejsza łaska jest zasadniczo również większa niż łaski sześciu sakramentów z wyjątkiem sakramentu chrztu: albowiem odpuszczenie wszystkich win i kar jest tylko sakramentalną łaską chrztu świętego. W przytoczonych zaś obietnicach Chrystus związał odpuszczenie win i kar z Komunią świętą przyjętą w święto Miłosierdzia, czyli pod tym względem podniósł ją do rzędu „drugiego chrztu”. Przygotowaniem do tego święta ma być nowenna polegająca na odmawianiu przez 9 dni, poczynając od Wielkiego Piątku, Koronki do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Święto Miłosierdzia Mojego wyszło z wnętrzności [Moich] dla pociechy świata całego (Dz. 1517) – powiedział Pan Jezus do Siostry Faustyny.
In October 1937, in Cracow (Poland), Lord Jesus instructed Sister Faustina to venerate the hour of His death and to connect with Him in prayer referring to the value and merits of His Passion. “I desire that you know more profoundly the love that burns in My Heart for souls, and you will understand this when you meditate upon My Passion. Call upon My mercy on behalf of sinners; I desire their salvation. When you say this prayer, with a contrite heart and with faith on behalf of a sinner, I will give him the grace of conversion. This is the prayer: O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You”
(Diary, 187).
“At three o’clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy for the whole world. I will allow you to enter into My mortal sorrow. In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion…”
(Diary, 1320).
“...as often as you hear the clock strike the third hour, immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it; invoking its omnipotence for the whole world (...). In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others simply by asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world - mercy triumphed over justice (...) try your best to meditate on the Stations of the Cross in this hour, provided that your duties permit it; and if you are not able to say the Stations of the Cross, then at least step into the chapel for a moment and adore the Blessed Sacrament, My Heart, which is full of mercy; and should you be unable to step in to the chapel, immerse yourself in prayer wherever you happen to be, if only for a very brief instant. I claim veneration for My mercy from every creature”
(Diary, 1572).
“On the Cross, the fountain of My mercy was opened wide by the lance for all souls - no one have I excluded!”

Jezusowego, jako zdrój miłosierdzia dla nas - ufamy Tobie” (Dz. 187).
„O trzeciej godzinie błagaj mojego miłosierdzia, szczególnie dla grzeszników, i choć przez krótki moment zagłębiaj się w mojej męce, szczególnie w moim opuszczeniu w chwili konania. Jest to godzina wielkiego miłosierdzia dla świata całego (...) w tej godzinie nie odmówię duszy niczego, która mnie prosi przez mękę moją...” (Dz. 1320).
„Ile razy usłyszysz, jak zegar bije trzecią godzinę, zanurzaj się cała w miłosierdziu moim, uwielbiając i wysławiając je; wzywaj jego wszechmocy dla całego świata (...). W godzinie tej uprosisz wszystko dla siebie i innych; w tej godzinie stała się łaska dla całego świata - miłosierdzie zwyciężyło sprawiedliwość. (...) staraj się w tej godzinie odprawić drogę krzyżową; a jeżeli nie możesz odprawić drogi krzyżowej, to przynamniej wstąp na chwilę do kaplicy i uczcij moje serce, które jest pełne miłosierdzia w Najświętszym Sakramencie; a jeżeli nie możesz wstąpić do kaplicy, pogrąż się w modlitwie tam, gdzie jesteś, chociaż przez króciutką chwilę. Żądam czci dla mojego miłosierdzia od wszelkiego stworzenia...” (Dz. 1572).
„Zdrój miłosierdzia mojego został otwarty na oścież włócznią na krzyżu dla wszystkich dusz - nikogo nie wyłączyłem!” (Dz. 1182).

2nd Sunday of Easter - Divine Mercy Sunday (Cycle A) His Mercy Endures
Acts 2:42-47 - Psalm 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24 -1 Peter 1:3-9 - John 20:19-31
By Dr. Scott Hahn We are children of Jesus' Resurrection from the dead. Through this wondrous sign of His great mercy, the Father of Jesus has given us new birth, as we hear in today's Epistle. Today's First Reading sketches the "family life" of our first ancestors in the household of God (see 1 Peter 4:17). We see them doing what we still do - devoting themselves to the Apostles' teaching, meeting daily to pray and celebrate "the breaking of the bread." The Apostles saw the Lord. He stood in their midst, showed them His hands and sides. They heard His blessing and received His commission - to extend the Father's mercy to all peoples through the power and Spirit He conferred upon them. We must walk by faith and not by sight, must believe and love what we have not seen (see 2 Corinthians 5:7). Yet the invisible realities are made present for us through the devotions the Apostles handed on. Notice the experience of the risen Lord in today's Gospel is described in a way that evokes the Mass. Both appearances take place on a Sunday. The Lord comes to be with His disciples. They rejoice, listen to His Word, receive the gift of His forgiveness and peace. He offers His wounded body to them in remembrance of His Passion. And they know and worship Him as their Lord and their God. Thomas' confession is a vow of faith in the new covenant. As promised long before, in the blood of Jesus we can now know the Lord as our God and be known as His people (see Hosea 2:20-25). This confession is sung in the heavenly liturgy (see Revelation 4:11). And in every Mass on earth we renew our covenant and receive the blessings Jesus promised for those who have not seen but have believed. In the Mass, God's Mercy endures forever, as we sing in today's Psalm. This is the day the Lord has made - when the victory of Easter is again made wonderful in our eyes.

The special graces of Divine Mercy Sunday
Are you discouraged that you will not be able to receive the special graces of Divine Mercy Sunday promised directly
by our Lord through St. Faustina? Don’t be.
Even though churches are closed and you cannot go to Confession and receive Holy Communion, you can receive these special graces this Divine Mercy Sunday. But how can you receive this complete forgiveness of sins and remission of all punishment? After all, churches are closed and Confession and Communion are not available. There is, however, still a way to receive this grace. Do these three things on Divine Mercy Sunday with the intention to turn away from sin in your life: Make an Act of Contrition Since you are unable to get to Confession, make an Act of Contrition, instead. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “Among the penitent's acts contrition occupies first place. Contrition is 'sorrow of the soul and detestation for the sin committed, together with the resolution not to sin again'" (1451). You thereby will be completely forgiven of all sins, even “mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible” (Catechism, 1452). Make a Spiritual Communion Since churches are closed and you cannot receive Holy Communion, make a Spiritual Communion instead, asking God to come into your heart as if you received Him sacramentally — Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. For instance, you can say this:
Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You were already there, I embrace You and unite myself to You; permit not that I should ever be separated from You. Amen.
Again, do this act of trust with the intent to return to the sacrament of Holy Communion as soon as possible.
Say a prayer like this: Lord Jesus Christ, You promised St. Faustina that the soul that has been to Confession [I’m unable, but I made an Act of Contrition] and the soul that receives Holy Communion [I’m unable, but I made a Spiritual Communion] will receive the complete forgiveness of all sins and punishment. Please, Lord Jesus Christ, give me this grace.
Everyone can ask Jesus to forgive their sins. Everyone can make a Spiritual Communion. And everyone can ask for this grace to completely wipe their slate clean of not only all sin, but all punishment due to sin. Normally, the punishment is not remitted unless one has absolute perfect contrition. And unlike a plenary indulgence, there is no requirement of having perfect detachment from sin. In other words, as long as we have a desire for this grace and intention to amend our lives, we can be completely cleansed with grace similar to our original Baptism. It is a way to really start over in our spiritual life!

Bishop Mark O’Connell celebrated Holy Mass at our Shrine on January 5, 2020. He dedicated and blessed the new reredos and the sanctuary of the upper church. He blessed the new images of Divine Mercy Jesus, Saint John Paul II and Saint Faustina as well as the sculpture of Golgotha. He also blessed the new reliquaries which sit on the altar and contain the precious relics of Saint John Paul II, Sister Faustina and others. It is our hope that these additions to the Shrine will inspire all who kneel in prayer and attain God’s grace, here on earth and their everlasting life. This Shrine has been blessed by the financial support from so many donors.
Our next project is to add an elevator/ lift which will make our upper church, where the main altar with all the relics is accessible to everyone. We have received a generous donation of $100,000.00. A generous benefactor has offered to match the funds we raise over $30,000.00. The second collection at Sunday Masses is to help raise funds for this project.
This project also involves the design and remodeling of the restrooms. The restrooms are not compliant with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). We want to better serve those with mobility challenges. Updating the restrooms is strongly encouraged. In addition, the appearance of current restrooms is not very welcoming to guests. The remodeled bathrooms will be legally-compliant and with much better accessibility to all. The appearance of the new restrooms will be updated, and the plumbing and fixtures upgraded. This means that there will be additional cost which will be announced soon.
Also, there will be future projects, including a marble altar and restoring the floor in the church.
We are also in the process of looking to reopen our school building. This is a daunting task as the building needs major renovations. There are many men in the shrine community who have offered their time and skills to complete these projects. We would only have to pay for materials.
I am grateful to those who, through spiritual and physical help, engage in the development of our church and school buildings. We wish to have the shrine attract many people who are looking to find spiritual fulfillment and become disciples sharing the word of Christ with others.
