To Be Like Him

I am strong, but he has strength. I tolerate – but he forgives.

I have education, he has wisdom. I am liked – but he is loved.

I am looked at, he is looked to.

I speak not of the Almighty but of a mere mortal.

I have learned that one must be a father to appreciate his own father and to wish

TO BE LIKE HIM.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

The feast of Corpus Christi is one time when our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is exposed not just to

faithful Catholics but to all the world. Please join us for our annual Corpus Christi Procession on

Sun., June 18 immediately following the 11:00 Mass.

Three altars will be erected in the front parking lot. This is a time when Catholics can show their love for Christ in the Real Presence by honoring Him in a very

public way. It is also a wonderful way in which we can show our love for our neighbors by bringing

Our Lord and Savior closer to them.

Here's a Novel Idea: You are invited to join the SJB Book

Club!

If you like to read & are interested in a fun, stimulating discussion group, please join us on

Monday, July 24 at 7:00 pm in the Parish Center Library.

Join us on an adventure through the pages of THE DRY by Jane Harper.

This is a great way to meet friends of friends. You can judge a book by its cover, but what about by

the first line? Be sure to check out the Book Display at our July get together! “Are you intrigued by the first line of the book?” It’s a fun creative way to try out a

new book.

Please bring your own beverage and a snack to share. Hope to see you in July! Happy Reading!

SJB is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Mary’s Apparitions at Fatima! We are getting ready for

special Fatima activities that will feature lots of fun and informative displays at the Fall Festival in

September. Each month a delicious Portuguese recipe will be published in our bulletin so you can travel to &

experience the unique paradise of Portugal without setting foot on a plane!

Suspiros, or Meringue Kisses, are a traditional Portuguese dessert typically served during weddings

or during many other holiday celebrations like Christmas or Easter. They are light & airy vanilla sweets that melt perfectly in your mouth. They are

simple & easy to make & are perfect for serving when guests are over. Suspiros are traditionally made with vanilla but other flavorings like peppermint can be used, as well as combining nuts or chocolate chips.

Ingredients: 4 egg whites, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup powdered sugar pinch of salt, 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions: Place the egg whites & the cream of tartar in the bowl of a standing mixer. Beat the egg whites on medium speed until the egg whites form soft peaks. Gradually add the granulated sugar, while still beating the egg whites. Continue to beat the egg whites until they have increased in volume & are forming stiff peaks. Sift the powdered sugar together with the salt & gradually to the egg whites, continuing to beat, until well mixed. Gently drip the vanilla extract into the meringue. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper. Fit a piping bag with a large star tip & fill the bag with the meringue. Pipe the meringue into small swirls onto the parchment-lined cookie sheets, spacing them about ½“ apart. Place the cookies in the oven & bake for about 1 hour, checking them every 15 minutes. Once they look crisp & well formed, turn off the heat & let them cool off in the oven for about 2 hours. Serve the suspiros immediately or store them in an airtight container to ensure freshness.
