The Sanctuary Candle that will be lit this week during our Eucharistic Celebration is in loving memory of Aldo Corso. This is a gift from Fred & Roslyn Scheid.

Earlier this month I received a letter form an attorney informing me that St James the Less would be receiving a legacy of $10,000 from the Estate of Dr. Yvonne Imbleau. I had never heard of Dr Imbleau, but now I am able to tell you her amazing story. She was the eldest of three daughters born to Dr Joseph and Helen Imbleau. Dr. Joseph worked at Overlook Hospital practicing General Medicine. She graduated from the Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child (’45) where an award is given in her honor at graduation. After earning her MD degree from McGill University (her father’s alma mater), she went to Kenya and Zimbabwe in Africa where she delivered “hundreds of babies”. She got sick with what may have been one of the hemorrhagic fever viruses which include Rift Valley Fever, Lassa Fever, Marburg Virus and Ebola Virus among others. She had bleeding into her lungs. He sister went to Africa and brought her back. She recovered well enough that she went to work in Kentucky supervising midwives in Appalachia. Eventually she retired to Rossmoor where her mother lived. After the death of her mother she continued to live in Rossmoor. She loved God’s creation, animals, plant life and Dr Imbleau loved people. She cherished her friends of many years including Ellie Siberski who has been my informant for this note. She certainly touched countless lives on two continents. One day while walking with a friend, enjoying the beauty of the Rossmoorean landscape, she fell and injured her shoulder. This caused difficulty and she moved near her surviving sister in Connecticut. She passed away on August 10, 2016. She left her estate to Catholic organizations, including St James the Less. What a remarkable life! What a remarkable woman! Her selflessness in a life of service to the poorest of people and the dangers she faced in doing so, reminds us to pray for the missionaries, religious or laypersons who devote themselves to the spiritual and physical betterment of the poor and to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by word and deed. How many people did she benefit? Even after death she is doing good things. What an inspiration to us all! I plan to apply this legacy to the infrastructure of the Food and Fellowship program here at St James the Less. I think (and Ellie agrees) that Dr. Imbleau would be very happy with that. We should always ask ourselves, What does God want me to do today?

The Bread and Wine that are being offered at our Eucharistic Celebration this week are in loving memory of Alfreda Sowa. This is a gift from Annette Sowa.

A SAFE PLACE

A Safe Place is a group that welcomes those who have experienced the tragic death of a loved one through drugs, suicide and other hard to face things. It offers, as its name states, a safe place to: • Speak about what happened • Where judgement will be suspended, can talk

freely • To ask questions, some of which cannot be

answered, but need to at least be spoken • To know that the discussions will be safe and

others will make sure they have my back • To speak with at least the hope that God is

present, even if I do not feel Him or are angry The purpose of this group is NOT to offer an answer or fix you.
