SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC SCHOOL
CANDY SALES SUPPORT SAINT JAMES CATHOLIC SCHOOL!
The kickoff was Thursday, August 24 and sales will run through September 8. Candy boxes can be picked up at SJS to help us sell or contact a student to purchase these delicious treats while supporting your school! Magazine order information will be communicated closer to the kick-off. As always, SJS students thank you for your support!!!
I have gazed upon you in the sanctuary so that I may behold Your power and Your glory. Ps 63:3 REFLECTION. The baby in the manger and the man on the cross do not look like God; yet by faith we know Jesus is no mere man. The Eucharist does not look like Jesus, but we worship Him. Christians are used to looking beyond appearances. Hence we can also see in the annoying person, or the person who is unconscious in a hospital bed, or in the unborn child, the image of God. PRAYER. Holy Spirit, grant us to see beyond appear-ances to the dignity of every human life. Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day
The school also participates in Box
Tops for Education and recycling
printer ink/cartridges. You can
drop them off at the school, parish
office or give to any St James student.
SAVE THE DATE!!

The Catholic Women of St. James (CWOSJ) is a faith
-sharing women’s group that meets weekly on Wednes-
day mornings during the months of September through
May. Our patron saint is St. Monica. The mission state-
ment of CWOSJ is as follows:
"We are committed to deepening our spirituality. Our
goal is to bring all Catholic women together to better
understand and value the richness of our Catholic
faith. Led by the Holy Spirit, we will share relevant
information, reading and discussion, fellowship, and
service ministries designed to open our minds and hearts
so that we can more fully bring God into our lives and the
lives of others. Catholic Women of St. James Church
has something for every woman."
New sessions will begin on Wednesday, September 6,
2017, in the Rodney Thomas Room (lower level of
Batcheldor Hall). We will be studying and discussing Jeff
Cavin’s “Matthew: The King and His Kingdom“. The
“Matthew” study books will be available for purchase at
the September 6 meeting. Other topics during the year
will include lives of the saints and Marian consecration;
plus possible day trips. Come join us for 8:00 AM Mass,
time for fellowship at 9:00 AM, followed by discussion at
9:30 AM. All women are invited! If you have any

STEWARDSHIP
+VOCATION VIEW+
The Lord will come when we least expect him. Is he
knocking now, asking us to serve as a priest or
religious? ( Luke 12:49-53)
Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading: Jeremiah 20:7-9
Second Reading: Romans 12:1-2
Gospel: Matthew 16:21-27
"…. who do people say that I am?" Matthew 16:13
The answers the disciples gave varied because they
recognized some of the attributes of individual
prophets in Jesus. Peter saw what the Messiah was
supposed to be because Jesus reflected who he was.
A steward reflects generosity and this is immedi-
ately recognizable to all that he meets. Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading: Isaiah 22:19-23
Second Reading: Romans 11:33-36
Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20
Peter’s statement of faith that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, comes not from human knowledge, but through a revelation from God. As Jesus announces that Peter is the bearer of the keys to the kingdom, Peter is given the power to bind and loose. Similarly, Jesus gives us unique gifts by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are to use to bear witness to the Gospel.

Parish Choir will resume weekly rehearsals Wednesday, September 6
Saint James is fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who devote time and talent to the parish choir. If you are interested in joining the choir, please come to our first rehearsal on September 6 in the church. We will pray, sing, and share stories of the summer from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the church. If you are unable to make the first rehearsal but would like to join, please contact Dr. Stephen Black at the parish office.
Thank you to all parishioners
who assisted us in cleaning up
our database. We have
worked hard throughout the
summer to clean up contact
information and identify all
active parishioners as well as delete the records of those
families who have moved away or relocated. Currently,
we have 1,264 active families in our parish and continue
to add more and more every week!

PARENTING POINTERS Sometimes parents of young adults (15
-30+) struggle with what appears to be a lack of faith in their
offspring. Consider, “Sometimes you must lose faith to find it.”
Your child may have to let go of “inherited faith” and
eventually reflect on what is missing in their life.
MARRIAGE MOMENTS How wise, knowledgeable and beyond
human understanding are the ways of God. (Romans 11:33-36)
When in the throes of love, one’s spouse may seem to also
have these qualities. What intellectual trait is your spouse
strongest in? What about yourself?
The Permanent Diaconate Office of the Archdiocese of Louisville has two remaining Deacon Information sessions and Deacon Discernment opportunities coming up for 2017. These sessions are meant to help men who may be discerning a call to the Diaconate. The men and their spouses will come together for prayer and to learn more about whom a deacon and his wife are and to interact with others who are discerning a call. The dates and times are:
At Saint Augustine (Lebanon) September 10, 2-4 PM Deacon Information Session September 21, 7-9 PM Deacon Discernment
At Saint Bernadette (Prospect) November 12, 2-4 PM Deacon Information Session November 16, 7-9 PM Deacon Discernment
