Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Tradition is a long human memory set, not in stone, but in human interaction. Without this active memory, the bonds of relationship and affection tend to fray and fall apart. Com-munities dissolve as surely as neglected buildings. After par-

ticipating in celebrations, events and rituals, we remark about how good it is to gather and re-member. This weekend’s readings remind us of foundations laid deeper than the human will to relate. We hear about God’s will to relate to us—to be our God as we are called to be God’s beloved people. Today, in three readings and three ways, we remember the covenant bonds that create us as a people and the obligation, the responsibility, that express the innermost attitude of our soul. You are mine. I am yours. These are God’s words that created a people as surely as “Let there be light” created the sun and moon and the stars. Lastly, as we begin the new school year, let us also pray for our students as they con-tinue their education and growth. Please be mindful of our children’s safety, especially in our parking lots during school hours, as well as on Sundays when PSR resumes in a few weeks. United in Prayer Always, /s/ Fr. Mark Reburiano

SVDP 5th Sunday Collection The Second Collection this weekend (August 29-30) is for the St. Isabella’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference.

We are most grateful to the parishioners of St. Isabella’s for taking the Gospel message, to care for those less fortunate, to heart. Thank you for your continued generous response.

Rosary—Pro Life Ministry The Rosary—Pro Life Ministry is looking for parishioners to join in praying the rosary at planned parenthood in San Rafael. We will say the rosary, pray for the unborn, their mothers and clinic workers. To join, contact Luiz Rigney: 415-845-2423 or [email protected]

RCIA RCIA will start on September 27th at 12:30 pm. Applications are being ac-cepted now. Please call Judy Rosenbloom at 415-897-8241 for information and applications. You may also email her at: [email protected] , but please leave a phone num-ber so that you can be reached.

An important message from Judy Rosenbloom: This will be our 17th year of RCIA at St. Isabella’s Parish. I ask for your help to keep our program going and growing. Pope Francis asks all of us to reach out to others and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. RCIA is a perfect way to reach many families who are inter-ested and eager to learn more about our faith. God forbid that we should ever turn away people from the church because we have no RCIA program to include them. Please call me if you can help this year. Last year’s RCIA class had 22 families with 36 students. It is very difficult for one person—who is not getting any younger—to do this alone! Ideally, we would form a committee to share ideas about events and service projects, communicating in Spanish, etc. I ask you, as Jesus asked his disciples, to come and see. Attend a few programs and pray before committing to anything. I promise you will never be asked to do anything you are not prepared to do. Please call me at 415-897-8241 or email me at: [email protected] , and may our Lord bless you in doing so.

SVDP Friends of the Poor Walk—Sept. 26th This year, the National Friends of the Poor@Walk takes place on Sat-urday, Sept. 26th. Members of the SVDP St. Isabella Conference will join the nation and walk. To support the SVDP Friends of the Poor Walk, please use a pledge form (found in this bulletin and in the church vestibule), and mail it by Sept. 26th to Catherine Poon or Doro-thy Ratto. Their addresses and more info are on the pledge form.

Readings for next Sunday: September 6, 2015 : 23nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Isaiah 35:4-7a Psalm 146 James 2:1-5 Mark 7:31-37

The journey through grief is not an easy one. Losing a loved one, whether a family member or a friend, can force changes and transitions in our lives which few are prepared for. One of our parishioners, Beverlee Hibbs, a trained Grief Counselor and loss survivor, is available to talk and/or meet with you. She can provide a safe place to mourn, emotionally, physically and spiritually. If you are struggling with loss or just want to learn about the grief process and normal grief reactions, please call the rectory at (415) 479-1560 or email: [email protected] , and we will put Bever-lee in touch with you.
