The Silver Rose Program—Knights of Columbus
Share the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe and promote respect
for life by participating in this meaningful pilgrimage. The Silver Rose
program demonstrates the unity between Knights of Columbus in
Canada, the United States and Mexico, through a series of prayer
services promoting the dignity of all human life and honoring Our Lady.
Each year, from early March through mid-December, Silver Roses are
stewarded by Knights of Columbus councils along routes from Canada to
Mexico. Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage is a
rosary-centered occasion for Knights, parishioners and community members to
pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation, and for the
advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The program for the Silver Rose program at our parish is 8:00 am Mass
on Tuesday, July 16 and 7:00 pm Mass on Thursday, July 18. There will
also be a bi-lingual Mass at the San Pablo Mission at 7:00 pm on
Wednesday, July 17. The Mass time for Saint Paul’s in Hurricane is
Friday, July 19 at 6:00 pm.

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD
Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
“The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.” (Luke 10:9)
If Jesus knocks, which He does always, with an invitation
to follow Him, are we home to answer? Do we recognize
Him? He does not knock but one time, rather, as many
times as is necessary to remind us He is the Way, the
Truth and the Life. The path to our eternal home lies in
our journey, here and now – not tomorrow or next week –
NOW!
It is so easy to lose our way in the darkness that pervades
our earthly life, to stumble and perhaps even fall as we
journey through these times. Why is it so difficult to
maintain our focus on Jesus and the ‘right’ way home?
Why is it so easy to become distracted, to be tempted and
lured by things of this world that really do not, or should
not matter?
“Remember you have only one soul; that you have only
one death to die; that you have only one life, which is
short and has to be lived by you alone; and there is only
one glory, which is eternal. If you do this, there will be a
great many things about which you care nothing.” – Saint
Teresa of Avila
We are weak and easily attracted to the enticements of this
world. Four notable attractions that can really derail our
journey are pleasure, wealth, power and fame. None of
these are necessarily bad unless they become our gods,
leading us from the true path in life we must follow – the
path of Jesus, the way of the Cross.
“He who has not learned what the crucifix means knows
nothing, and he who knows his crucifix has nothing more
to learn.” – Saint Vincenza Gerosa
More relatable stumbling blocks on our path in this earthly
life that blind us to the light are jealousy and envy, gossip
and unfounded accusations, evil or destructive thoughts,
those behaviors that are not the way of Jesus.
Our journey may be difficult. However, our time on this
earth may also offer us pleasant, successful, even exciting
moments that bring us great joy. These moments, when
accepted for what they truly are – gifts from God, can be
most enriching to our spirit. Any success we may enjoy
here, now, in this life, is merely a prelude to our eternal
happiness in the home God has waiting for us.
Jesus is knocking. Will you let Him enter?

impregna nuestra vida terrenal, tropezar y quizás incluso
realmente no importan o no deberían importar?
momentos agradables, exitosos e incluso emocionantes
esperado.
Jesús está llamando. ¿Lo dejarás entrar?
The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Sunday, Jesus reminds us that "the harvest is
abundant but the laborers are few." As Catholic disciples,
we are the laborers that the Master is sending. All around
us are opportunities to share the love and mercy of Jesus
Christ - our homes, our workplaces, our neighborhoods,
even our faith communities! Lest we feel unequipped for
the task, Jesus gives us some advice.
"Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals." We might not
have a theology degree or training in public speaking, but
that doesn't mean we can't share the Gospel. The power of
God is at work in simplicity. The disciples went forth
with nothing as a reminder to trust in the Providence of
God. Say a little prayer that God will speak through you
and has a need for your gifts, just as you are.
"Do not move about from one house to another." So much
of the life of Jesus was about relationships. He modeled
this attitude by journeying with his disciples. Here he
makes the same recommendation to them, to remain with
the same family for their entire stay in the town. Break
bread with others. Invite them to coffee or a game night in
your home. Sharing your faith isn't just about saying the
right thing, but loving well over time.
"The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that
we shake off." Sometimes we want to help someone, but
for whatever reason, they don't receive it well. Sometimes
people aren't interested in our efforts to invite them
deeper into faith. When rejection happens, don't carry it
with you. Don't let it over-burden your heart. Rejoice that
you share in the mission of Christ, and keep on loving the
next person he places in your path!
¿Te
gustaría reflexionar si deseas ser sacerdote o religiosa?

SEASONAL REFLECTION
Feast of St. Benedict
Have you ever wanted to change the world? 5th century Europe was a dark place. The Roman
Empire had fallen, and barbarian tribes were picking over the scraps of what remained. Faith
hung on, but there was no consistent, coherent Christian culture in the world around. Young
Benedict began his life with education and privilege but became disillusioned by a life pursuing
material success. He withdrew to a monastery and spent much time in solitude. He began
attracting followers, whom he organized over time into 12 monasteries, with a 13th established
to train young monks. He wrote a rule of life including basic principles for living as Christ. His
monks took three vows: conversion to Christ, obedience to the local abbot, and stability to
remain with the community. Benedictine monasteries became lights in the darkness, secure
centers of Christian culture enlivening the faithful beyond their walls. When the world around
us seems complicated and contrary to the Gospel, how will you be a light?

Remembering our Deceased Loved Ones
We are delighted to announce that our
bronze lamp has been completed ahead
of schedule and was delivered to the
Parish Office this past week. It is even
more beautiful than we anticipated and
the heavy, solid construction ensures
many years of use. The installation date
of the lamp near Our Mother’s statue,
Our Lady of Grace, in the Sanctuary
will be announced soon. Once completed, we will
continue to pray for the repose of the souls of our
deceased loved ones at each Mass seeking the intercession
of Our Lady of Grace.
Please plan to continue to remember in this very special
way those you have loved, who have now passed away
and are no longer with us. May they now rest in the
peace of God’s Heavenly Kingdom.
