FOR THE RIDE HOME First Reading: Acts 14: 21-27 Second Reading: Rv 21: 1-5a Gospel: Jn 13: 31-33a
Jesus is saying farewell to his friends at the Last Supper. He tells them that he will soon be "glorified." They still do not really get the message about his death and resurrection. They love him too much to face the reality of his crucifixion. So Jesus gathers them close and says, "My children, I will be with you only a little while longer." He tells them how they are to keep his presence alive within them after he is physically absent. "Love one another," he says. The commandment to "love one another" can seem trite. This means that we seem to hear it all the time, so much so that it becomes meaningless. Love, love, love! Can you think of other words that say "love one another" or express what love is?

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Join Us With Mary When life got overwhelming and too big for us as children, we turned to our mother for support and guidance. As adults, we thank her for all she had done for us. Now we are blessed with the opportuni-ty to turn to our Heavenly Mother Mary to ask for her support and guidance, and thank her for the many blessings she has given us. Every Wednesday after 9:00 AM mass (at 9:30), you are invited to join us as we pray the rosary to ask for her help and guidance and to thank her for her abounding love.
ARE YOU A REGISTERED PARISHIONER? Many parishioners support St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in the weekly collection and we do not have them listed in our census. Prayer Blanket Ministry
Meetings are held on Saturdays from 9:30am to
12:30pm. Next meetings are May 21st & 28th
New members are always welcome. Come join this exciting ministry—we create prayer blankets, lap
robes, baby blankets, preemie hats, Christmas stockings, “pink scarves”, etc. and donate them to
various organizations, nursing homes, etc. We also share ideas, patterns and offer instruction for anyone
wishing to learn to knit or crochet or brush up on their skills. For more information call the Parish
Outreach. If you have yarn to donate, we will gladly accept it and use it.
Thank you!
The second collection on April 30th and May 1st is in support of Catholic Schools and the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation. Tomorrow’s Hope provides tui-tion assistance to students in need attending Catho-lic elementary schools and grants directly to schools to offset general expenses. Last year the Foundation gave over $1.75 million to students while actual student need was over $6 million. Sustaining Catholic elementary education is vital to the future of our society and our Church. Our stu-dents are our future. They are tomorrow’s hope. Please be as generous as possible with your donation on April 30th and May 1st.
2016 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL
One Faith – One Family – One Community
PLEASE JOIN US IN CONGRATULATING THE CMA APRIL VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
John Romaine—St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Lake Ronkonkoma
CMA April Volunteer of the Month: John Romaine
John and his family were founding members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Lake Ronkonkoma when it formed in 1988. John has chaired the Catholic Ministries Appeal since the founding of the Parish as well as many other Parish activities including the annual carnival. He has served as Head Usher and currently sits on the Pastoral Council for the Parish. John was also the first St. Agnes Medal of Service recipient in 2007 when the program began. THANK YOU JOHN FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT!
FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
“Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope” - Pope Francis
**One Faith, Family and Community is the theme around which we are sharing the inspiring story of the Catholic Ministries Appeal. **As One Faith Family, we are called as a community to show mercy to others as Pope Francis has asked us to do in this extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. **Supporting the Catholic Ministries Appeal gives each of us a remarkable opportunity to “show mercy to others” and touch the lives of so many who are in our family of faith and in our community—a neighbor in need of food or shelter, a young man or woman finding their way to God through our youth or campus ministry programs, or a deacon or seminarian studying to serve in our Diocese.
Did you know because of the Catholic Ministries Appeal last
year…. We delivered or served more than 550,000 meals to senior
citizens and young families. Parish outreach centers, including our food pantries, assisted
more than 100,000 families. Our Office of Hospital Ministry served more than 300,000
people in local hospitals. 12,000 volunteer Catechists taught Religious Education to
more than 110,000 of our children in public schools. In our 133 Parishes there were more than 17,000 Baptisms,
17,000 First Communions, 19,000 Confirmations and 3,000
Weddings. We provided safe and affordable housing for struggling
seniors through 15 housing facilities with more than 1,200
affordable apartments. Our parish received a cash rebate of more than $10,000
which helped to offset expenses needed to maintain our
building and to fund the many programs we offer. Please consider making a pledge to this most worthy charity.
We need the help of every parish family to reach our goal of
$50,800. You have until January 31, 2017 to pay off your pledge.
No down payment is necessary. The Diocese will send monthly
reminders. Keep in mind this is not a legal document. If you feel
you cannot keep up your payments, simply discontinue them.
To help you decide here are some suggested gift plans: **$100 pledge—$10 per month, ** $50 pledge—$5 per month
**One time payment = $20.00
Whatever you are able to give, large or small, will be accepted
gratefully. Please keep in mind your gift is payable over ten
months.
To make a pledge, simply fill out the form below and place it in
the collection basket or mail it back to the parish office.
