Lift Up Your Hearts First Sunday of Advent ~ December 3, 2017 Today with the start of Advent, we begin the new liturgical Church Year. ADVENT means coming... we commemorate the arrival of Jesus as the Child of Bethlehem... Christmas. Advent also reminds us of the Second Coming of Jesus... and so, we examine our hearts and our lives. Are we really ready? There are so many things to get ready for Christmas... events, presents and parties, preparations and decorations, as we gather with family and friends. This is an important time to work at the bonds of love in our families... a time to forgive and renew. It is also a time for prayer as family, as individuals and in community as we gather for mass. Oh yes... maybe you could put up your Nativity set as a reminder. Well, anyway, let’s join together as a parish family and lift up our hearts to the Lord. With love, Fr. Lift Up Your Hearts

First Sunday of Advent ~ December 3, 2017

Today with the start of Advent, we begin the new liturgical Church Year. ADVENT means coming... we commemorate the arrival of Jesus as the Child of Bethlehem... Christmas. Advent

also reminds us of the Second Coming of Jesus... and so, we examine our hearts and our lives. Are we really ready? There are so many things to get ready for Christmas... events, presents and parties, preparations and decorations, as we gather with family and friends. This is an important time to work at the bonds of love in our families... a time to forgive and renew. It is

also a time for prayer as family, as individuals and in community as we gather for mass. Oh yes... maybe you could put up your Nativity set as a reminder. Well, anyway, let’s join together as a parish family and lift up our hearts to the Lord.

With love, Fr. Leo

We need to be able to pray. We need

prayer just like we need air. Without

prayer, we can do nothing.

ChristNet - Tuesday, December 12th In October, the Downriver communities opened their rotating homeless shelter program called ChristNet. A network of more than 30 Downriver churches open their doors to those who have nowhere to go. St. Constance will again co-host along with 4 other churches at Journey of Hope, located at 8900 Pardee Road in Taylor. We will need volunteers to help as chaperones. Journey of Hope requires 4 people per shift: 2 men and 2 women. There are two shifts: 5:30-11:00pm, when you will help pack lunches, serve dinner and assist as needed; and 11:00pm-7:00am, when you will serve breakfast and assist as needed throughout the night. Please call Pat Holland at 313-291-4050 if you are interested in helping. Thank you for your support.

Thank you! Thank you to my St. Constance Family for all your beautiful get well cards. Your kindness will last a lifetime. God bless you all. Monika Chaney

“LIFE IS TO LIVE and life is to give and talents are to use for good if you choose. Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your task - then the doing of your work shall be no miracle but you shall be a miracle. Every day you shall wonder at yourself... at the richness of life which has come to you by the grace of God. But everyone needs someone - knowing that somewhere someone is thinking of you.

Christmas Eve Children’s Mass Plans continue for our annual Christmas Eve Children’s Mass – December 24th at 4:30pm. Please return the bottom portion of the letter which your child received with your intention to attend this special Mass and the part that your child wishes to play by Sunday, December 10th. The skit is open to all ages – preschool to 8th grade and the child need not be in our Religious Ed program. All children are welcome to participate. See Ms. Bernadine after Mass in the Church Hall or call her at 313-291-1483 for more information.

The Advent Wreath The lighting of the candles on the Advent wreath is a Christian tradition that symbolizes the four weeks of Advent. The wreath is a circular candle holder that holds a candle for each of these four Sundays plus a candle in the center which is known as the Christ Candle and is lighted on Christmas Day. Three of these candles are blue (may also be purple) and one is pink. Each candle represents an aspect of our spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Today we light the 1st candle. It is blue and is known as the Prophecy Candle or the Candle of Hope. We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises made to us through our ancestors. Our hope comes from God.
