From Our Pastor:We are just days away from entering Holy Week, the holiest week of the year (Palm

Sunday of the Lord’s Passion is April 14) On this Fifth Sunday of Lent, as we read the Gospel about the woman caught in adultery ( John 8:1-11), may we slow down from the busy-ness of our daily duties and answer the question: “What are you looking for?” In the New Testament, one of the first questions that Jesus asked the first disciples is, “What are you looking for?” On some level, Jesus asks this question to every person He encounters In Saint John’s Gospel, as the scribes and Pharisees ask Him whether they should stone this poor sinner, Jesus tells them that whoever has not sinned may cast the first stone When Jesus says this, we might think of Him saying, “What are you looking for? When you sin, is that what you want? Do you want public shame and condemnation, or do you want mercy?” As the Scribes and the Pharisees silently slink away, they answer the question with an honesty they were lacking when they first approached Jesus As the woman looks into Jesus’ gaze, it is as if Jesus is asking her, “What are you looking for? Does the image of love that you were running after satisfy you? Does it compare with the Love that forgives you at this very moment and promises mercy and life forever in Heaven?”

In this Season of Lent, let us contemplate Jesus Christ’s question As we stumble along amidst our culture’s false images of love and happiness, as we do battle with pride and selfishness, as we look on the faces of those we love, as we approach the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Confession, let us hear Jesus’ tender interrogation, “What are you looking for?” By God’s grace, as we approach Holy Week and Easter, may we continue to turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel, to look for Jesus Let us look for Jesus Christ with the focus, intensity and desire of His faithful disciples, trusting in His mercy, love and providence, and follow Him in our words and deeds For we do indeed seek Him and find Him in our prayer, in His Church, Word, Sacraments, Commandments, communion of saints, and virtues of faith, hope and love And we need not look too far, for Jesus Christ is with us always (Matthew 28:20)

Let us pray for 15 of our young people (along with nearly 20 other young people from nearby parishes) who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Wednesday, April 10, at 7pm, at a Mass at Saint Clement offered by Monsignor James Bartylla, the administrator of the Diocese of Madison As the newly Confirmed are strengthened by the Holy Spirit and His gifts of wisdom, counsel, understanding, knowledge, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:1-3), may they strive by God’s grace to bear the fruits of the Spirit in their words and deeds: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity (Galatians 5:22-23)

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William

ST. CLEMENT CEMETERY NEWSOn May 1 of this year, the cost of purchasing a cemetery plot

will be increasing from $500 to $600 This is the first increase since 2009 As we bring this increase to your attention, we also want to make you aware that of the $600, $375 is considered an easement for the burial plot, an amount that remains the same; the remaining $225 (which incurred the $100 increase) goes into the St Clement Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund This investment fund is used for the on-going maintenance of the two cemeteries that St Clement Parish is entrusted with The cemetery we are most familiar with is St Clement Cemetery outside of Lancaster The other is Wissbaum Old Catholic Cemetery on Pigeon Hill, located on County N This small Catholic cemetery has been closed for burials for some years, but we maintain it, as it is our responsibility and it is a sacred place, as are all Catholic cemeteries Please know that the yearly cost of maintaining these cemeteries is over $10,000 Most of this cost goes toward mowing the grass on a regular basis to keep our cemeteries looking beautiful The yearly income from the sale of grave plots that goes into the Perpetual Care Fund does not come close to the yearly cost of cemetery maintenance Use of the Cemetery Maintenance Envelope in your bi-monthly envelope packet and any other donations to the cemetery, such as remembering St Clement Cemetery in your Will, helps us keep our cemeteries looking beautiful and well-maintained Please remember, beginning May 1, 2019, the cost of a burial plot at St Clement Cemetery will increase from $500 to $600 (with the $100 increase going toward perpetual care of our cemeteries)

FORMED: FOR THIS WEEK!“LOVE – SACRIFICE – TRUST” is an audio talk by Fr Mike

Schmitz that is a perfect reflection as we get closer to Holy Week In his talk, Fr Mike offers important insights into the meaning of Christ’s Cross, and our need to embrace the crosses that come our way, out of love for God and others Doing so is an act of trust in our loving Father, just as Jesus’ own sacrifice was for Him

To register for FORMED, go to www FORMEDorg, click on “Enter Code,” enter our parish code, DHYNXC, then proceed as directed Please contact the parish office if you have any questions Take advantage of FORMED this Lenten Season!

“FEEDING THE HUNGRY”In addition to using the Rice Bowls to help the needy in the

world through the Missionaries of Charity, founded by St Teresa of Calcutta, we want to draw your attention to a local need Recently the Snackpacks for Backpacks program was begun at Winskill Elementary School This program assists children who go home to limited food resources each weekend Locally, 35 children are receiving a bag of food each Friday for the remainder of the school year through Snackpacks for Backpacks You can support this program through monetary and food donations Checks may be made out to “Snackpacks for Backpacks” and sent to Bev Mattingly, 912 Sheridan Ct in Lancaster Needed food items include fruit cups, granola/fruit bars, individual cereal boxes, juice boxes, snack pack crackers and shelf stable milk packages in individual servings The bulk of the food is being ordered from Second Harvest, but the above items are not always available Food donations may be brought to the United Methodist Church Monday-Thursday, 9:00-noon, or by contacting Bev Mattingly at 723-4654
