From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:Thanks be to God that we have the ability to heed Jesus Christ’s words in this Sunday’s

Gospel – “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind” – because of the seminal Truth that God has loved us first, and He does not want anything from us that He has not Himself first given us (Matthew 22:34-40) In His love for us, God has given us life and He calls us to live our life for Him in the way that He wants us to live The Lord made us, we belong to Him (Psalm 100); He knows us in our mother’s womb (Psalm 138-139); and even before we were in our mother’s womb, God knew us ( Jeremiah 1:5) Thus, keeping this Great Commandment is how we give to God what is His, for He has first loved us in such a way that we can indeed love Him in return! Our love for others then flows from our awareness that God’s love came and claimed us as His own – therefore, the second of the two Great Commandments is like the first, as Jesus says: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:39-40) This is how we truly can become “imitators of the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 5:10)

We keep these two Great Commandments by God’s grace, which we embrace in faith and receive by: praying (raising mind and heart to God, listening and talking to Him); reading and contemplating His Word, the Bible; frequenting the Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist and Confession; staying close to Him in His Church and His Teachings, consciously keeping His Commandments; loving one another in a selfless, self-giving way; and defending the God-given dignity of every human person made in His image and likeness, from conception to natural death

Yes, loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, means loving all our neighbors, born and pre-born Being pro-life is not a political issue, but a God-who-is-love issue, a moral one that is preeminent because God is the author of human life and no other “issue” could ever be more important than the right to be alive and be born As we follow God’s teachings, we defend the lives of the most helpless and voiceless people on the planet: pre-born children God will never call us to cooperate in the evil act of killing children, as Planned Parenthood and some political parties and politicians do Rather, God tells us to cooperate in love, in proclaiming the Truth with love (Ephesians 4), loving and protecting all moms and dads and their children (mothers and fathers who’ve suffered an abortion need to know that God and His Church still love them, and we love them – and that they can experience God’s healing mercy and grace by turning to Him and seeking His forgiveness and healing) Although it is legal in our country to kill children up through the day of their birth and even after they’re born in some states, it’s still evil to do so – intrinsically evil, for regardless of someone’s feelings or politics, it’s evil to directly end the life of innocent children and it’s evil to support those who advocate it God calls us to conquer such evil with good (Romans 12:21), to love one another as He has loved us While some political parties, politicians and judges cultivate a culture of death and destruction through abortion and infanticide, Almighty God continues to call all His children to build a culture of Life, to promote and defend the Gospel of Life, to truly love Him with all our being and our neighbors as ourselves May we answer His call, always

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William

SAINT CLEMENT SCHOOL

GO MAKE DISCIPLES: THE IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER“There is no other way to know and love

Jesus Christ but through prayer To be a disciple of Christ we must have a lived relationship with Him through personal mental prayer Prayer is not just a task to be accomplished It is a call to respond to God from the heart: The living and true God tirelessly calls each person to that mysterious encounter known as prayer In prayer, the faithful God’s initiative of love always comes first; our own first step is a response As God gradually reveals Himself and reveals man to himself, prayer appears as a reciprocal call, a covenant drama Through words and actions, the drama engages the heart (CCC 2567) As part of the ‘Go Make Disciples’ initiative, Bishop Hying has challenged all of us to build or reinforce a habit of spending at least 15 minutes in prayer every day What does that look like in practice? Fr Mike Schmitz has a great video on Ascension Presents called Tips for Praying, where he shares four practical tips for building and maintaining an intentional prayer life” These four tips are: deciding when to pray; creating a “sacred” space where to pray; choosing how to pray, ie praying the Rosary, praying Lectio Divina, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, etc; and asking why do I pray? Am I primarily seeking to grow in my relationship with God? “St Louis de Montfort once said, ‘Pray with great confidence, with confidence based on the goodness and generosity of God and upon the promises of Jesus Christ God is a spring of living water which flows unceasingly into the hearts of those who pray”’ Michelle Nilsson ~ from the “Go Make Disciples” October Newsletter
