The name "Catholic Order of Foresters" refers to us being

called to care for our Catholic community. As a forester

cares for the forests and animals, we must care for our

brothers and sisters in need. Each member holds an insur-

ance certificate and eligibility for COF’s unique added value

fraternal benefits, which enhance membership and set us

apart from other life insurance companies. By offering mem-

bers fraternal benefits, including scholarships and tuition

assistance, we bring Catholic values to life. Our Home Of-

fice is located in Naperville, Illinois. We have approximately

111,0001 adult and youth members, and more than 300 lo-

Pope to Young People: God loves you, the Church needs you By Seàn-Patrick Love

“Christ is alive and He wants you to be alive!” “The Church needs your momentum, your intui ons, your faith”, writes Pope Francis”. “And when you arrive where we have not yet reached, have the pa ence to wait for us”. Pope Francis’ message is addressed not only to young people, but also to “the en re People of God”, on the theme of “Young People, the Faith and Voca onal Dis-cernment” on March 25, 2019 and he divides his reflec ons into nine chapters. THIRD AND FINAL PART

Chapter 7: Youth Ministry Youth ministry is the focus of Chapter seven. According to Pope Francis, youth ministry should be “flexible”, an opportunity to “journey together”. Young people are moved by “the grammar of love”, he says”, “not by being preached at”. The Pope stresses the need to iden fy “new approaches” that are crea ve and even daring. The arts, sports, and care for the environment”, are all areas of posi ve pastoral development, he writes.

Chapter 8: Voca on Responding to our voca on means fostering and developing “all that we are”, says Pope Francis in Chapter eight. This may find expression in Holy Matrimony, he writes, where “true love is passionate” and sexuality has two purposes: “to love and to generate life”. But the Pope also challenges young people to consider “the voca on to special consecra on” and not to “dismiss the possibility” of devo ng themselves to God.

Chapter 9: Discernment In the final Chapter of the Exhorta on, Pope Francis reminds us that: “Without the wisdom of discernment, we can easily become prey to every passing trend”. A voca on is a gi , but it is also demanding, he writes. In order to enjoy the gi s of God, “we have to be ready to take risks”.

The Pope’s final words in the document are an implicit challenge to take such risks: “Dear young people”, concludes Pope Francis, “my joyful hope is to see you keep running the race before you, outstripping all those who are slow or afraid!”

Human Concerns Back Pack Ministry A HEARTFELT THANK YOU to all parishioners who

have so generously brought food for the 12 children backpacks we filled during the school year. The

food was packed and delivered to the elementary school weekly. Many children have some food

provided during the week at school, this was to de them over the weekend. Backpacks allow the

children to remain anonymous. Hungry children have poorer test scores, so thank you for spreading

God’s love and care to them. Special thanks to the adults and teens who packed, twice a month, and to the faithful driver who then

delivered the packages each week!!!
