ATTENTION MEN – A new men’s group called FATHERS

ing at 5:30 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Office Building. The sole

cious icon that directs the human family to its Father. The
Fathers of St. Joseph gatherings are not so much meetings as
they are mini retreats, whose aim is to communicate the spiri-
tuality of fatherhood in a manner that encourages and inspires
fathers to embrace, engage and – by the power of the Holy
Spirit – sanctify their vocation. The next gathering is SAT-

New Movie You Must See: The nationwide theatrical release of
Paul, Apostle of Christ, is March 23, 2018. Produced by Catholic
ministry ODB Filmas and starring acclaimed actors Jim Caviezel
and James Faulkner, this movie dynamically and truthfully illus-
trates the beginnings of Christian persecution under the Roman Em-
pire. St. Paul’s story is one of conversion, forgiveness and persever-
ance in the face of extreme intolerance, not unlike that faced by
many Christians today. This dramatic retelling of his life can move
the hearts of both believers and nonbelievers. The film, dedicated to
the persecuted Christians of today, is an opportunity to spread
awareness of their plight among your friends, family and commu-
nity. Invite them to watch this inspiring film, and help spread
awareness for the future of Christianity!

580-St. Cecilia
Founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, St. John Baptist de La Salle is called the father of modern peda-gogy. After completing his education he desired to enter the priesthood. He was ordained in 1678 and received his doctorate in theology in 1680.
Observing that the poor of his day were grossly neglected as far as their education was concerned, St. John became the first to set up training colleges for teachers who would instruct the poor. Thus began the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, whose first novitiate was founded at Vangirard in 1691. St. John exhorted its members to have a father’s love for their pupils, be ready to devote all their time and energies to them, and be as concerned to save them from wickedness as to dispel their igno-rance.
In 1695, he drew up the Rule for his Brothers (which he later revised in 1705) and also wrote The Conduct of Christian Schools, which set forth his pedagogical system and has become a classic in the field of education. He died on April 7, 1719 and was can-onized on May 24, 1900 by Pope Leo XIII.
PRAYER God our Father, You chose St. John Baptist de la Salle as an educator of Christian youth. Give Your Church good teachers today, who will dedicate themselves to instructing young people in human and Christian disciplines. Amen

ST. JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLE, Religious
Patron of Teachers
My dear parishioners,
CHRIST IS RISEN! - TRULY HE IS RISEN! - This is the greeting which first came from the lips of Saint Mary Magdalene to
the Apostles on that first Easter Sunday morning. Going to the tomb early in the morning on the first day of the week to com-
plete the preparation work begun on Good Friday afternoon for the Lord Jesus, the women disciples headed by Saint Mary Mag-
dalene found the tomb open and the body of the Lord Jesus gone. Today’s Gospel tells us of this which is the basis for our faith,
THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. The Apostle Paul reminds us that if Christ is not
risen then our faith is in vain. However, the good news of Christ’s Holy Resurrection produced the gift of faith among the fol-
lowers of Jesus and the courage to proclaim His victory to the ends of the earth.
After suffering greatly for our sins on the wood of the cross the Lord was lifted up by God the Father and glorified as the Lamb
which was slain and who dies no more. Because of Jesus’ Holy Resurrection all those who hope in Him will share eternal life
with Him. He has opened the gates to paradise and welcomes into the Heavenly Jerusalem all the holy ones who have lived their
lives in conformity to the Gospel. All of us are called to sanctity and our challenge is to conduct ourselves in a manner which is
virtuous and in opposition to our secular culture. Our hope in Christ’s Resurrection shows itself in our rejection of evil and our
commitment to holiness.
With the defeat of death in Resurrection miracle we see that death does not have the last say. It is a force which has been con-
quered and which we must conquer time and again. We must conquer death by being PRO LIFE FORCES IN SOCIETY. The
“Right to Choose” is a death sentence for babies, the elderly and the sick. Catholics can be nothing but PRO LIFE and protestors
to death! Christ is Risen-death is defeated. God ratifies life in raising His Son form the dead.
I have an icon of Saint Mary Magdalene, Equal to the Apostles, in which she holds an egg. Of course for us we associate Easter
with the egg because of its meaning. Just as a chick breaks out of the enclosing shall to new life, so too does the Lord break free
from the enclosure of the tomb to eternal life. The new life of Resurrection was proclaimed by St. Mary of Magdala in those
joyous words, CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY HE IS RISEN!
Happy Easter!
