DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET We will pray the Divine Mercy chaplet every Friday during July and August at 3 o’clock in Saint Cecilia Church. Please join us at the “hour of mercy” each Friday afternoon during the sum-mer.

CHURCH RENOVATION WORK – The renovation work in the church is under-way. Dusting the ceiling beams and fans has been accomplished. The painting of the walls in the nave has begun. Work in the sanctuary will commence as well as in the choir loft. The refinishing of the floor is also underway. As a result of all this work the Masses will be celebrated in Hayes Hall. I am hoping we can be back in the church for Au-gust 1st but this is subject to how quickly this work can be done. I appreciate your patience as we do the loving labor of caring for our church. I am counting on your generosity to support the work which is being done in the Lord’s House. I ask you to participate in the appeal to fund the renovation and pray that the Lord will richly bless you for the offering you make in His Name. Fr. Zig

Our renovation fund total is currently $65,655.00 Saturday, August 6th -"You at Least Try to Console Me." World Apostolate of Fatima, Blue Army Shrine, 674 Mt. Catechists Needed “Do you want to do a good deed? Teach the young!”

~ St. John Bosco As we prepare to open another year of religious education classes for the youth of this parish, we are again in need of cate‐chists (teachers) and classroom aides. Fear not, this is not your work, but God’s. If you are nervous about teaching and the stress or work that might be involved, don’t worry help is avail‐able. If you are interested in helping or just curious about helping, please let us know. We also have a need for teachers and aides that have a back‐ground in special education. This has been an underserved ministry for many years. We have a new special education pro‐gram and we are in need of staff with more specialized back‐ground in this field. Please contact Jim Clancy at the parish office for more details. 973‐627‐0313 ext 17 or [email protected]

2016-2017 Registration K-10th Grade Traditional CCD &

Family Formation Registrations for all religious education classes are now be‐ing accepted. Registration forms and program information is available on the parish website. Students that are in non‐sacramental year classes will have the option to attend the Family Formation program in place of the traditional CCD classes. 2nd, 9th, and 10th grade stu‐dents will still need to be enrolled in the traditional program. Family Formation is a once per month program that will meet on a Friday night. This program is designed for the entire family; babies to retired seniors are welcome to regis‐ter. There is no drop off service, so children will need to be accompanied by one or both parents. The program will in‐clude family prayer, family activities, and small break out groups. Space is limited in all classes and programs, and registrations are taken on a first come first serve bases. Some classes are already full, so don’t delay registration any further. If you have any questions about next year, please contact

STS. JOACHIM AND ANN, Parents of Mary

July 26 -(St. Ann) Patroness of Christian Mothers

My Dear Parishioners, As we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day we also commemorate the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the second lection for today’s Holy Mass the Apostle Paul reminds us, as he wrote to the Colossians, that through baptism we died with Christ and rose with Him. Through this sacrament we have been united with our Savior. It is He who speaks to us in today’s Gospel passage, “And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you

will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” The Lord Jesus is telling us that prayer is powerful and that we shouldn’t underestimate its ability to do exactly what we ask. In the Old Testament lection we hear the story of Abraham’s ability to have the Lord God do what he humbly asks. The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah is grave but not everyone who lives there are guilty of sin. Abraham barters with God, in good Middle Eastern fashion, because the Lord intends to wipe out all. God is attentive to Abraham. Abraham’s requests result in the salvation of the innocent. These Scriptural texts speak to us of the importance of prayer within the lives of the faithful. Unfortunately when one ceases to pray privately (personally), one ceases to pray publicly at Holy Mass. We all know people who have ceased coming to church and the practice of their faith. This is something we hope to be addressing as early as this fall. I am in need of about 15 volunteers who will come together with me to look at this issue. I need YOU to represent our parish in a deanery-wide effort entitled, REBOOT! LIVE! Renown Catholic evangelist Christopher Stefanick will be speaking to us at Saint Mary Church in Wharton on April 19th, 2017. Let me direct your attention to a website which will give you more informa-tion regarding this event, reallifecatholic.com. If you love the Lord, love our Church and love the people who have stopped practic-ing the faith, then join with me and others who are committed to the Gospel. Let me know if you are interested in representing our parish – call me or e mail me! I’m praying and waiting for YOU! God bless you! Father Zig

580-St. Cecilia

Sts. Joachim and Ann, both of the tribe of Judah of the royal house of David, are venerated by the Church as the parents of the blessed Virgin Mary who was probably their only child. The other Mary mentioned in the Gospels as the sister of the Mother of God was, it is believed, her cousin; for this was a customary way of designating relatives in the East. St. Ann has been honored from early Christian times. Churches were dedicated to her honor, and the Fathers, especially of the Eastern Churches, loved to speak of her sanctity and privileges. She is often represented as teaching her little daughter to read the Scriptures. St. Joachim has been honored from time immemorial by the Churches of the East, and since the 6th century public devo-tion to him has been observed in all countries. However, as in the case of St. Ann, the gospel tells us nothing about his life. Tradition, grounded on very old testimonies, informs us that Sts. Joachim and Ann in their old age came from Galilee to settle in Jerusalem, and there the Blessed Mother of God was born and reared; there also they died and were buried. A church was built during the 4th century, possibly by St. Helena, on the site of the home of STS. Joachim and Ann in Jerusalem. PRAYER: Lord, God of our fathers, through Sts. Joachim and Ann You gave us the Mother of Your Incarnate Son. May their prayers help us to attain the salvation You promised to Your people. Amen.
