CHILDREN’S OFFERING AT 9:15 SUNDAY MASS:
It has been suggested to me that the children at the 9:15 Sun-
day Mass have the opportunity to place an offering (their
loose change) in the offering basket which will be placed by
the altar. The children would be invited to place their offer-
ing in the basket following their return to the nave after par-
ticipating in the children’s liturgy. We will begin this prac-
tice next Sunday. Hopefully this will instill within our
young ones the desire to share what they possess with God.
Most children are already “joyful givers”. Father Zig

2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal
Here I Am, Lord!
Our Diocese is blessed that there has been an increase in the
number of seminarians over the years. Let’s continue to
pray for these men as they concentrate on their studies and
reflect on how they will one day serve our parishes. They
deserve all our support, and one way to show this is by giv-
ing to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal helps fund
the significant financial costs associated with years of room,
board, tuition and other related expenses. Your gift today
helps prepare our seminarians for the future. For your con-
venience, you can make an online gift or pledge at
www.2018appeal.org. May God bless you for your sup-
port!

BAPTISM CLASS – A meeting of all those wishing information and
scheduling for a baptism will meet on Monday evening, November
19th in the Saint Cecilia Parish office at 7 o’clock in the evening.
Father will be present to conduct the information session and an-
swer questions regarding the celebration of the sacrament.
ATTENTION MEN – A new men’s group called FA-
THERS OF ST. JOSEPH will be meeting every other Sat-
urday morning at 5:30 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Office Build-
ing. The sole aim and purpose of the group is to labor for
the restoration, revitalization and redemption of human
fatherhood, in order that it may become what it has been
created to be: an efficacious icon that directs the human
family to its Father. The Fathers of St. Joseph gatherings
are not so much meetings as they are mini retreats, whose
aim is to communicate the spirituality of fatherhood in a
manner that encourages and inspires fathers to embrace,
engage and – by the power of the Holy Spirit – sanctify
their vocation. Our next meeting is October 27th.
BISHOP TO MAKE PASTORAL VISIT – We welcome
His Excellency, Bishop Arthur Serratelli to Saint Cecilia’s
for a pastoral visit on Saturday, October 27th. The Bishop
will celebrate the 4:30 Vigil Mass.
There will be a SPECIAL HEALING MISSION here at St.
Cecilia Church, conducted by Paul Rymniak, on Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2018.
All 3 evenings will begin at 7:00 pm.
The thrust of all of these evening will be FORGIVENESS
and HEALING. There will be PRIESTS available for CON-
FESSION also...Healing starts in the Confessional with the
Sacrament of Reconciliation, you might want to consider this
option during this time.
Healing is NOT just for the Physically Impaired. Mental and
Emotional stresses and strains can take a heavier toll on our
lives, even more than the worst of diseases. So if you or your
family is in need of HEALING in these areas, come and ex-
perience the Lord, and what He can do for you. Come and
enjoy Jesus by Worshiping Him. Come and see what Our
Lord has for you. Come and be healed.

20/20 Prayer Project
Father, we thank you for bringing us all together to
work on the 20/20 Project. We pray for the babies who are in danger of being aborted, their mothers, their fami-lies, and all the victims of the abortion industry. We ask that you provide us with the vision, hope, and resiliency, needed to pass the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act" in New Jersey in the year 2020. We offer our work to you and ask that you make it fruitful. Give us the wisdom, humility, and courage to faithfully fight for equal rights for babies in the womb by relying completely on the power of Jesus' death and resurrection. Amen. I, (your name) pledge to devoutly pray this prayer for the 20/20 Project each day until the end of the year 2020.

begin on Wednesday, November 28th in the parish office at 7 o’clock.
The sessions will take place on December 5 and 12 AND January 9,
16 and 23 (ALL WEDNESDAY EVENINGS). The program is open
to both parishioners and non parishioners. Please call the parish of-
fice for additional information (973.627.0313).
Thank you to all our parishioners who came out to support

was a great success.
On September 14, 2018, Hurricane Florence devastated the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The storm left 43 people dead in its wake, along with up to $22 billion in damage. Not too long after Florence hit, Hur-ricane Michael devastated the Florida Panhandle. Michael left 17 dead and 1.3 million homes and businesses without power. To aid the American Red Cross in their efforts to provide disaster relief, we are hosting a bake sale on Sat-urday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 4th after all masses. Please come and purchase a delicious treat to support the victims of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael or you can provide monetary assistance. Thank you for your help and may God bless you!

ST. SALOME, whose name in Hebrew evokes prosperity and peace and corresponds to the Greek Irene, is thought to be a sister or cousin of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, mentioned by St. John as being one of the three women standing at the foot of the Cross. St. Mark calls this woman Salome and St. Matthew characterizes her as “the mother of the sons of Zebedee.”
Mark also mentions her as one of the same three as they came to anoint the body of Jesus in the tomb early on Easter morning.
It was this holy woman who asked Jesus to give her two sons, James and John, a place of honor in His Kingdom. In His reply, Jesus addressed the two Apostles and lovingly directed them to the life of sacrifice, abnegation, and imitation of His sufferings. Their reward would come beyond the boundaries of time.
She is venerated as Patroness of the Church of Veroli, Italy, to which city an ancient tradition says she came, with two companions called Blasé and Demetrius, and proclaimed the Faith. Then at an advanced age she closed out her days in peace there, while her two companions bore witness to the Faith with their lives.
PRAYER God, You alone are holy and without You no one is good. Through the intercession of St. Salome, grant that we may so live as not to be deprived of Your glory. Amen.

ST. SALOME, Mother of the Apostles James and John
October 22—Patroness of Veroli
My Dear Parishioners,
Today we commemorate the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time as we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day. The epistle reading for
today comes from the Letter to the Hebrews in which we read: “So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive
mercy and to find grace for timely help.”
This week our parish will conduct a PARISH MISSION at which we will be invited to APPROACH THE THRONE OF
GRACE AND TO FIND GRACE FOR TIMELY HELP. This mission will be a graced time for us to hear the words of re-
pentance so as to experience renewal in our faith and commitment to Christ our Savior. This parish mission will be led by
MR. Paul Rimniak, a layman from the Archdiocese of Atlanta. He is not a deacon or priest but an evangelist who will remind
us of repentance, healing, and conversion which is needed in every life which is seeking union with God.
Each night at 7 o’clock you will be invited to join us for a prayer service at which Mr. Rimniak will speak. He has conducted
missions in a number of parishes within the Diocese Paterson. I pray that his witness among us will lead us to greater partici-
pation in the sacrament of penance and a more pious reception of and devotion to the Holy Eucharist.
This is a time of grace for both old and young, active and inactive parishioners, as well as those who are not parishioners and
who are indeed welcome to attend. There has been so much disorder and upet in our world and in the Church that this is in-
deed a time for all of us to come before the Lord seeking healing and encouragement. The devil is working trying to disrupt
our lives and fracture our union with Christ’s Church. We must be made strong to reject his lies as we push forward in
strengthening our faith through prayer and witness.
In this Sunday’s Gospel we hear how the Apostles allow themselves to be overcome with pride and selfishness. The Lord
Jesus must remind them that selflessness and witness are what is truly important. We, like the Apostles, can sometimes fall
victim to the temptations which lure us away from discipleship and into the darkness of sin. This week’s parish mission will
remind us of our call to holiness by inviting us to experience the healing and comfort which come from Christ. I look for-
ward to seeing you in church Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening.
May Christ our Savior bless us in our service to the Gospel!
