Memorial Day PrayerDear Lord,

on this day, we remember thosewho have served us by protecting

our freedoms. When we celebrate our long weekend

with our friends and family, help us remember, that our freedom to speak of you,and our freedom to worship you,

and our freedom to do that which we ought to do,have all been bought at the price and sacrifice

of many lives.Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven.

So too, your children died protecting us here on earth.

Help us be mindful this weekend and alwaysof the sacrifices made by those in uniform

for all our freedoms.Amen.

The Mass on Monday, May 28th, Memorial Day is at 9:00 AM.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd VBS

One mother described her experience with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as:“…a simple, synthesized, profound involvement with the Gospel and with the liturgical life of the Church.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was founded in the 50's by two Italian laywomen, one a scriptural scholar and one an

expert in Montessori educa%on. Together they conceived of a simple, a'rac%ve method for sharing the richness of the

Faith with children, who are uniquely capable of accep%ng the beauty of God's love. The program is presented in three

levels, and includes %me in the "Atrium," which is a quiet environment where children learn through tac%le play.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd emphasizes quiet contempla%on and imagine this "the enjoyment of God." The chil-

dren hear Bible stories and watch them acted out with simple materials; they learn songs and prayers, and are encour-

aged to play quietly with simple and meaningful objects. One mother explained that CGS "cracked the code" of the Mass

for her son, as he learned to become alert to the details of the liturgy: the significance of color, the names and purposes

of the various vessels and tools on the altar.” Source: National Catholic Register blog post by Simcha Fisher on April 17, 2014

It is an amazing approach to teaching the youngest among us to develop a personal relationship with God!

This VBS is for children aged 312 and will take place at St. James the Apostle, 4019 US 422, Pulaski, PA 16143.

(Take Route 422 towards Youngstown and St. James is located on the left. It is about a 12 minute ride from St. Camillus.)

Cost of VBS is canned food or $10 per child which will be donated to Lawrence County C.A.R.E.S. Any questions please call Cathy Frank at 724.652.9471 x25.

COMMUNITY NEEDS

May bulletin community needs are for People in Need their need is for nonperishable food items.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

In today’s gospel Jesus commands, “Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you.” This command is meant for every Christian. In light of this command, parenting is not only the most difficult task a person can take on, it is also one of the most apostolic and missionary tasks. Jesus commands all parents to teach their children “all that I have commanded you.” by Bud Ozar

MORE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE MASS

(EUCHARISTIC PRAYER I)

We recite the Nicene Creed at Mass, a creed, or statement of beliefs, that draws its authority from the first two ecumenical councils (325 and 381). There exists, also, the Apostles’ Creed; it derives its authority from the fact that, to quote St. Ambrose, it is “the Creed of the Roman Church, the See of Peter, the first of the Apostles, to which he brought the common faith”. (see Catechism of the Catholic Church #194, #195)One of the beliefs expressed in the Apostles’ Creed is the belief in the “communion of saints”. Among other things, this term can refer to the communion or unity of all the faithful in Christ, those who are pilgrims on Earth, the dead who are being purified, and the blessed in Heaven all together forming one church… (see Catechism of the Catholic Church #14741477) Thus, when, during the recitation of Eu-charistic Prayer I at Mass, we become aware of our close relationship with the saints, as we plead for a share and fellowship with John the Baptist, Stephen, Matthias, Barnabas, and oth-ers. The “communion of saints” reminds us that the church is more than a building, more than just one congregation of parishioners, more than just one grouping of Catholics in one area. Ra-ther, the Church is a unity of all worshippers on Earth, those under the earth, and those in heaven. All those who have gone to heaven are saints; however, Holy Mother Church has canonized a number of them, so that we pilgrims on earth may have an example to follow. When we in-voke the saints in Eucharistic Prayer I, it would be good to be aware of the journey that those figures made. Everyone knows that Stephen was the first martyr, that Peter and Paul were Apostles, but do you know anything about Li-nus, Cletus, Cosmas, Damian, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes? All have outstanding stories and know-ing something about their lives could possibly help us, pilgrims, fashion our lives so that when it is our turn to go to heaven, we can meet them in joyful reunion.
